Wow, that's hard to write.
Since the day it opened as Michigan Ideal Speedway, everyone has referred to it as Springport. Now a google search brings up a number of "Mid-Michigan" Speedways. Talk about confusing! Unless you specifically knew it was in Springport, you'd be taking a side trip to Palo (which I'm sure is beautiful in the summertime!)
Has anyone in the Charlotte, Eaton Rapids, Olivet, Springport, Jackson area seen any kind of advertising for the track yet? Anything in Fitzwater's paper? Practice is 7 weeks away with the season opener to follow close on its heels.
I was stunned last season when I stopped at a gas station in Eaton Rapids, with my Springport Speedway shirt on, and the guy from the Country Club at Duck Lake asked if the track was open...and it was mid-season!
This track is one of Calhoun County's hidden treasures in need of lots of media exposure!

Yes name changes are confusing. As most know I have personally worked hard to put the track near Springport on the map. It is surprising how many people reside with in 25 miles of the facility that don't seem know of it's existence.
The new ownership of the Speedway is getting off the ground trying to make the track something new and exciting. The attendance numbers last year were horrible. So the new owners have chosen a new name, Mid-Michigan Speedway, to make the point that it is no longer business as usual. I have book marked their web site and I will share it with you here www.midmichiganspeedway.com.

The new Marc Times Racing News/Michigan Racing Scene combined publication will be featuring advertising for most tracks including The Mid-Michigan Speedway near Springport.
Thanks,
Dennis

We at the MARC Times Racing News & Michigan Racing Scene had the opportunity to sit down with management at Mid-Michigan Speedway and discussed their 2009 marketing plan.

They have a very aggressive and multi-tiered approach which I'm sure they will start rolling out in the near future. Obviously, we can't share their thoughts and ideas, but I can tell you that they have invested substantially into promoting their facility with the new MARC Times Racing News & Michigan Racing Scene.

Michigan Circle Track, LLC (parent company of the MARC Times Racing News/Michigan Racing Scene) has had the opportunity to sit down with nearly all of Michigan's promoters, plus those from Northern Indiana, Northern Ohio and the key players from most of the sanctioning bodies. We have been very pleased with the reception we have been given and have found these owners and promoters open to our ideas and plans.

For the most part, the new product has been well received. We have agreements in principle in place with Kalamazoo Speedway, Berlin Raceway, I-96 Speedway, Evergreen Racepark, Autocity Speedway, Merritt Speedway, Mid-Michigan Speedway, Thunderbird Raceway, Angola Speedway, Owosso Speedway, Laird Speedway and Dixie Motor Speedway. We are concluding negotiations and expect agreements shortly with Crystal Motor Speedway, Mt. Pleasant Speedway, Winston Speedway, Spartan Speedway, Hartford Speedway and Butler Speedway. We are hopeful to find common ground with the remaining tracks in the near future.

Many of the larger sanctioning bodies are on board as well.. U.S. Super Pro is completed; Short Track Trucks, VROA Modifieds, Michigan Legends, Wolverine Midgets, and others are being discussed and based on early conversations are likely to be completed.

It is an exciting time across the state in the Short Track Community.. there are fears and concerns about the economy, but there is optimism too.

Track owners and promoters are getting lean, but they aren't running scared, in fact.. they are digging in and look to be going straight at it.

I think that's good news for all of us. For Michigan Circle Track, LLC; the MARC Times Racing News and the Michigan Racing Scene its going to be a great summer and we are looking forward to serving our subscribers with the best coverage possible. For our partners they are going to achieve new levels of exposure and better identity definition and marketing communication then they have received in the past. Readers are going to get the inside scoop in new ways, drivers are going to be promoted more prominently and the short track racing industry will receive a badly needed platform from which to launch and market their products.

Hallelujah!!!!
Thank you for sharing the info that you could.
I know the racers would love to see 5000 fans in those grandstands (and so would I!)
Sounds like the new owners are at least headed in the right direction.

Thank You, we at Mid-Michigan Speedway are very glad to hear the positive things
being said. Yes, we do have a lot of good things planned for the Speedway's future,
but like any large task you want to try and make sure everything is in line before
really announcing much of anything. So far we are on schedule thoygh and things are
going well, and we can't wait til the first day of racing. Once again Thank You for your
much welcomed comments, they are as welcomed and very insightful.

That's good to hear.
I'm sure there is a plan to get the word out about the place.
Local papers,Radio etc.
The amount of people in surrounding areas that still don't know about the place sometimes seems unbelievable.
Hoping it's a big year.
Just a fan for now

I know this has not been posted to in awhile, but I just ran across it and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Aaron Murphy, and I will be covering Mid-Michigan Speedway this season for the MARC Times Racing News & Michigan Racing Scene. From the talks I have had with the track owner many track updates are being made.

This speedway has a unique configuration. The front stretch is fairly flat, but heading into turn one the banking begins, 18 degrees to be exact. Here is the cool part, the banking continues all the way down the back stretch into turn three and four. This allows drivers to to push their cars hard, and dive down into turn three.

I have seen great racing there, and cannot wait for the 2009 season to begin. I suggest if your looking for something to do with the family, head to Mid Michigan Speedway for some great value, and great racing. If your a driver, what are you waiting for ... get registered and get ready to race. Hey I'll be there, and maybe I'll see you in the draft.

I see one link to Mid Michigan Speedway , one to to Mid Michigan Raceway Park, and one link to a message board where someone mistakenly called the drag strip a speedway. Not confusing to me.

Now now kids. Let's not argue. All of the activities at Mid-Michigan Speedway are nothing but positive. I commend Jerry and his staff for all they are trying to do with the track, the drivers, and the fans. Please tell your friends, your family, and your neighbor watering his lawn, racing season in Michigan is back, and it is better than ever. 3gears.gif

Seriously though, I do think changing the name was a big mistake... but its not my toy, he can do with it as he pleases. See you guys there on the 18th.

Everyone called it Springport when it was Calhoun County.......I'm sure everyone that's been around will still call it Springport!

Funny how names can make a difference, Owosso, Dixie, Crystal, Mt Pleasant, Onoway, Whittemore, Galesburg, Kalamazoo, Berlin, etc. Or the name that fans remember with a locations, i.e., I-96, Spartan, etc. Most everyone will know where you are going when you mention one of the above.

People knew where you were going when you said Springport Motor Speedway.

Hopefully, people will get to know where you are going when you say Mid Michigan.

Somehow, I think most racers will just say, "I'm heading to Springport".

Kind of like they say "I'm going to the 'zoo"

Just those references immediately bring the track to mind.

Hopefully it will work when someone says I'm going to 'Mid Michigan."

have a good day,

schinde

I'll be at Owosso on the 11th, it's a lot closer for me. The payout at Springport is the only reason I'll be there, until gas prices get too high again. Thanks for the reminder though.

The good thing about the Springport name was that it can be found on a paper map, and there's an exit on 94 that says Springport on the sign.

I haven't heard anyone mention the fact that it was once called Michigan Ideal Speedway (Little MIS). I wonder how many people ended up in Brooklyn, at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). I agree with some of the previous posts, I don't think the name of the track has been the KEY to it's history of success' or failures. I'm glad somebody is there willing to put the time, effort and money into the place to give us guys a place to go in circles. biggrin.gif
Best of luck to Mid Michigan and thanks for another place to race.
