Late Model Mania at Merritt Speedway
As the Racers registered on Saturday June 10th, it was plain to see that Merritt Speedway was the place to be for Late Model action this race night. With other tracks giving the Late Models the night off, it gave many of Michiganís top dirt track Late Models the opportunity to come to Merritt Speedway to check out the competition before the Wood Tic 100, July 14th & 15th.
There were 57 top Late Models on hand with Frank Seder getting fast time but not the top spot in the 4 car dash. That honor went to Justin Robinson of Shepherd over Andy Chester, Seder, and Craig Foster. Heat race winners were Bruce Vance of Midland, Kevin Nelson Jr of Muskegon, Curtis Roberts of Coleman, Tim Stott of Fruitport, Don Hawley of Midland and Eric Spangler of Lake City. This set the field for the B & C Mains with Bob Hammer & Jason Vermilea moving up to the A-Main over such drivers as Dona Marcoullier, Brian Nickerson, Rick Whipple, Kevin Nelson Jr and Ron Goretski. Frank Seder worked his way through the pack to take the win over Eric Spangler, David Hilliker, Rail Rokos, Donnie Marcoullier, Justin Robinson, Dave Hadfield, Bob Hammer, Kevin Nelson & Don Hawley.
Pro Trucks number 20 strong with Ron Hill of Mikado posting fast time. Justin McNeil of Cadillac took the win in the 4 Car dash with Leonard Ballor, Hill, and Bob Hammer in hot pursuit. Brent Nevereth of McBain took Heat #1 over David Schram, Mike Kresnak & Mark MacNeil. Bill Beardslee of Vestaburg took Heat #2 over Ron Hill, Bob Hammer & Rich Southerland. The Pro Truck A-Main was action packed with Bill Beardslee of Vestaburg taking the win over Jeff Hubbard, Dick Stout, Justin McNeill, Hill, Aaron Raby, Southerland, Ron Grubaugh, Hammer, & Kresnak.
Adam Brinks of Cadillac moves into the points lead after winning the 2nd Street Stock Feature of 2006 over Tim Martin, Rob Cowen, Mark Edwards, Brian Ostroske, Wade Schmidt, Greg Tragis, Paul Kennard & Arnie Hoekwater. The Heat winners were Cowen of Cedar, Tragis, & Edwards of Bellaire.
The Teen Bees took the track to the cheers of the crowd with Brittany Morse 15 and Audrey West 13 taking the top honors. As their driving skills improve, we can see these young drivers moving up into the street stock division.
June 17th should be an exciting night of racing as Merritt Speedway hosts the Lake City Redi-Mix Sprints on Dirt. Don Blue Construction will be sponsoring the Super 8 Michigan Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pro Trucks & Teen Bees. Come join the fun and be part of an exciting night of dirt track racing. We look forward to welcoming you.
