Despite some imposing weather conditions that postponed qualifying, the stands remained full and the show went on Saturday night at the Angola Motor Speedway. A good field of cars showed up for the first ever $5000 to win Gaylord Parr Memorial super late model race.
The Superior Auto Modifieds, Napa Street Stocks, and the Wild and Crazy Mini Stocks all took part in dashes for cash. The Modified division took the top six qualifiers and ran a six lap race paying $60 to win. John Gatton Jr. beat out Josh Nester to win the race. The Napa Street Stock division took the top five qualifiers and ran a five lap race paying $50 to win. Todd Griggs beat out Tommy Little to win the short dash. The Wild and Crazy Mini Stocks took the top four qualifiers and ran a 4 lap race paying $40 to win. It was a familiar top three as Jerry Slone won the race, followed by Kedrin Holliday and Jim Musser.
The Superior Auto Modified division was first up to run their 30 lap feature event. Thomas Blackburn, Dave Nester and Rick Coe all battled for the top spot for the first ten laps of the race. John Gatton Jr. started 6th, but on the 11th lap took the lead in the race. Nester and Coe battled for the second spot throughout the remainder of the race, but with no cautions the whole race it was John Gatton Jr. who took the checkered flag. Dave Nester took 2nd and Dave Nester rounded out the top three with his 3rd place finish.
The Napa Street Stocks were next up to run their 25 lap feature. The race saw Jermey May shoot out from the 6th spot to take the lead early in the race. He maintained a large lead throughout the race, but a restart late in the race evened the field. Dick Margo, who set fast qualifying time and started last, was able to pass May on the 22nd lap to take home the feature victory. May finished second and Brandon Pulver rounded out the top 3 with his 3rd place finish.
The Wild and Crazy Mini Stocks were up next to run their 20 lap feature. Kedrin Holliday started ninth and was able to lead the race by the 2nd lap. It didn’t take long before it was the familiar sight of Kedrin Holliday, Jerry Slone and Jim Musser all battling for the top 3 positions. Holliday ran strong, but Slone was able to pass him on the 17th lap. A restart gave Holliday the opportunity to get Slone back, but he was unsuccessful on the pass and Jerry Slone took home another feature victory. Kedrin Holliday finished 2nd and Jim Musser rounded out the top 3 with his 3rd place finish.
Last, but not least, was the Super Late Model division running the Gaylord Parr Memorial 100 lap $5000 to win feature event. The race paid out over $10,000 in the top 5 spots, the largest payout in Angola Motor Speedway history! The inversion was 12, which gave Brian Nester and Ricky Everidge the inside and outside polls. Nester came out strong and led the first few laps. Scott Hantz was able to grab the lead early from his 6th spot. He was followed by Jimmy Carter and Jeff Parr. Parr was able to pass Carter and eventually passed Hantz on the 22nd lap of the race. Jack Landis, who set fast qualifying time, was able to come up from his 12th spot to gain the third position. He battled Don Harvey for the second sport for nearly 20 laps before Harvey’s car broke on lap 57 and Landis took the second spot. Landis battled Parr for the lead while Greg Parr tried to get around Brent Jack for 3rd place. The rest of the race saw Parr and Landis battling for the lead, but Landis could never catch Parr who took his 2nd feature win in a row. Landis came in 2nd, Brent Jack 3rd, Greg Parr 4th, and Doug Finley rounded out the top 5 with his 5th place finish. The first ever Gaylord Parr Memorial saw one of his sons winning the race, while the other finishing fourth.
It was another great night of racing at the Angola Motor Speedway, despite a scare from the weather. The Everage Motorsports team was dedicated to give the fans what they came to see and get the show in. Next week the MCR Dwarf cars be the headliner along with all others classes also running. Be sure to be there.
