I'd have to go back through my records, but it may have been the smallest field there since about 93-95 when Sonny ran a run what you brung and we let three Limited Lates run so we had some cars in the field.

There were 18 at the track. One went home before I got there. Kevin Stahl and #89 (Jurkevich or something like that, don't have release yet, but I'll let you know who it was) broke during qualifying. Left us with 15 for the race.

Harold Fair Jr won the race, but not going away, with Dennis Strickland a car length back. Joe Bush was there, and led the first 23 or so laps, then he got a flat, and he and Harold had a good tussle.

Here's the finish:
Harold Fair Jr (also Gold Cup Champ)
Dennis Strickland
Brent Jack
Paul Pelletier
Eric Lee
Jarod Allison (from Orlando, driving Harold Sr's car)
Joe Hawes

down one lap:
Roger Blackstock
Justin Schroeder
Jeff Bailey
Bobby Cruze
AJ Lane (in Kevin Butzin's FR car)
Bill Litigot

Out
Joe Bush

It sure was a small and disappointing field of super lates last night. I wonder if the reduction in laps and pay had something to do with it?

It was nice to see Joe Bush and the Port City Team back at Toledo. Bush looked really strong leading the first 23 laps until his problem.

The #89 that broke was Brett Jursik from Doylestown, Ohio. He has been racing the USA Modified Series, as well as select Main Event shows.

Also, the inversion for the feature was three, which was disappointing as well.

Remember when the Port City car would show up at every super late race at Toledo (Berry, Campbell, etc...)?

Remember when Toledo would have to run 2 last chance races for supers?

Remember when Toledo would have to run 1 last chance race for supers?

Remember when Toledo would have a full field of supers?

Remember when Toledo would have more than 500 people in the stands?

Remember when........

Well I know that when you have a 50 lap race at Toledo for small pay it will have a serious affect on the car count. The Glass citty race will have a full field of great cars for sure.

Congrats to Harold Fair Jr. 4 wins out of 5 races to go along with another championship. Awesome job Harold!!!

Hi Claude... I missed you again, didn't I. Did you hear the rumor last night that in 2008 the GC is the only SLM show?

Yes I remember the full field, and the fuller grandstands. My friend is one of the wrecker drivers and he said the crowd has been like that all year. Except the two sprint shows, and well they don't count, they pretty much bring their own crowd. Back when I worked for Sonny, we always had healthy fan counts for the Iceman shows, our regular shows were a little off, but not as bad as last night. Mom looked at me last night and said, geez I think AC had twice as many people last night.

My mom figures it's the prices that Toledo charges for the SLMs/specials. Other than the Mudslinger, I think the highest priced race this year was $15. I think their regular show is a little higher like $12, but if you're used to that and they only raise it $3, you don't think much of it. I wouldn't.

We should have a decent field of supers for the Glass City. If you haven't heard, the B main is now a transfer, consi sort of race. Winner goes to the GC.

It's a little depressing.. The crowds and car counts at Toledo seem to have been low for the last couple years, but I'm not sure what the management can do, if anything. Since the track was bought a few years ago, they sunk allot of money into it, and the place looks the best it has in years. I'm looking forward to the GC, but I'm concerned that the car counts still going to be down for that. The Sportsman seem to be "allright" but I have a feeling they will only be able to hold the crowd for so long. Flat rock seems to have an decent car count, and crowds, but for some reason Toledo is down. Is the economy around Toledo area that bad, that's it's preventing people from going to the track? Granted, I've only been there twice this year, but that's because I got screwed into working Friday nights, and can't make it. mad.gif

With that..the next natural question is..what is the future for the track, and as fans, other then going to the track, what can we do to help it out?

Yes it is depressing, not only have they put a lot of money into the track, they also lowered the prices for the regular Friday shows, it didn't help. They are going through the same problems that all tracks are going through, no fan base, no crowds, and drivers are picking and choosing what races to run. A lot of free tickets have been given away at Toledo and when you give away 500 freebies and you get 50 to 70 back there is something else going on. Yes the economy is gone in the Toledo area, nothing is working in that town, hockey, concerts, and other sporting events.
Seventeen cars was a low car count for a Gold cup race, but in my eyes it was a pretty good race. I would have liked to have a bigger invert, but when you roll two dice it is what it is. As far as a 50 lap race with only 15 cars at the end of 50 laps 7 cars were on the lead lap and the others were only down 1 lap, not a lot of lapping.

How do we change the future? Bring friends to the tracks, get them excited about racing. I have talked to a lot of promoters and no one has the answer. It just takes a lot of work and then a lot more.

By the way they moved the GC to Saturday so you can work Friday and then come to the races!!!
