Full Version: Opinions on bombers for A/C

Howdy Folks,

I would like to introduce myself and ask for some opinions on a couple of topics. My name is Norm Parker and I'm planning on starting in the bomber class for the '08 season at A/C. I don't have a ton of experience with racing, but I've been a fan my whole life. I have been busted up on the quads a few times, but that's about the extent of my racing experience. The only thing I have going for me (and the only reason I'm even attempting this) is I have a buddy I work with that spent 7 years on a LM touring team and another guy that can rebuild an engine blindfolded. It's a decent start, but I'm not fooling myself, I'm about as green as green gets. One thing is for certain, I'm a thrill seeker by nature and I haven't found anything that's been fast enough yet icon_smile.gif

I've been reading alot of posts here and looking at various classifieds for bombers, trying to get a little feel for what I'm getting into. I ran across this ad in Ebay and thought I would throw it out here for comments/opinions. Also, if anyone if fixin to sell a decent car, I might be interested. Obviously, a lot of things need to go right between now and spring, but hopefully we can get this thing together.

Here's the car
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...em=180160345820

I'm also looking for a place to work and store the car/trailer if anyone knows of anything. I live in Clarkston; any place between here and Flint would be fine. I'll throw this out there is anyone is interested, I would be willing to give a $1000 sponsorship if someone had an operation that I could work at and store and store my gear for the season and maybe lend me some help getting started (even if the help is meeting people and knowing how to get stuff done).

I'm looking to get started in January with actually working on the car. I have to finish this semester for my master's in engineering then get a side gig for racing money (don't get excited, we're just pedigreed rednecks).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm really hoping I get to meet you folks in the spring! By the way, my "crew chief" (tongue in cheek) name is Bobby. People around work have already started coining us as "Normy Bobby". Oh brother...

PS. With the help of a really smart chick I know, we opened an LLC called Stribeck Racing. We're going to try and sell some merchandise online to offset some of the expense (website is still in the works). Might be a flop, might not, but you don't know if you don't try wink.gif I'll keep you posted

i think you will get your fix for the thrill seeking in the auto racing community, lol. i started three years ago and i have met alot of super good people at the race tracks. the racing community is a pretty unique set of individuals and alot will do what they can to help you at the tracks, and even off the track. please just remember that you are getting into racing to have fun and to meet alot of new and interesting and decent people. welcome to the racing community!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as that car goes, you should be good with the wheelbase as long as it hasnt been changed. The cam is too big, I believe there is a max lift of .420 and I don't believe you can run solid lifter cams anyway. Also the heads have been ported and polished which may be frowned upon by tech inspectors. And the springs have to be the same from left to right. Bracing through the front and rear firewalls has not been allowed the past couple of years, however, check with the tech inspector as there have been talks of this possibly changing. So if you changed those things I believe the car would be legal for the bomber class at AC. Hope this helps.

You will have the time of your life racing, it will be more fun and more challenging than you will know until you get started.

Thank you for that info.

Your welcome however, I forgot some things, you would also have to run a stock carb and stock wheels.

that car seems a little too racey for a ledsled/bomber. unless rules change, you would have to replace a majority of the engine using the shortblock only, the cage is too much, youd have to remove any tubing going through firewall or trunk wall, and youd have to replace suspension parts. the worst part about buying a car like that it that its out of state and you really need to get a visual in person to see what quality the car was built with. the cages are very important and half of the cars floating around that fall into this class of car do not have safe cages. if youre up for a challenge, that car would certainly be one. ive heard of many cars from this class going up for sale within a week or two, as soon as the season ends. id wait and see if you can get your hands on one of the better local cars. most cars sound like they are going on the market for about 2500-4500 depending on whats included, and how well it performs (including mine).

Just as a FYI I do not beleive there will be any changes to the A/C Led Sled's the class is doing great the way it is and I think the rules we have are sufficient, if you look at the last 2 years the top performers have leveled off and some of the others are catching up and the class is getting some very exciting races
nate
yep nick is right...i would go to auto city site and down load the rules..alot of your engine in that car is illegal,,500 holly, gone, the vortex heads gone..some of the suspension looks to much,,championracer04 can help with that..hes a track official at ac..but you did come to the right place to ask that question,,earlier this year i asked pretty much the samething..and i got alot of help from everybody..but i ended up buying a great car that needs some work to it..with the help of everybody on here...have to say thanks to nick(Cadillac kid) looked at a couple of cars for me....helped me from making a couple of huge mistakes...but thats what you got to learn..and everyone will help you and give you advice..if i new how to pull up my topic i would make a link for ya..but welcome to the community

unfortunately we will not have a definate answer on this until the very end of january giving you only feb and march to completely rebuild and refresh your racecar. a/c is notorious for this problem. lots of rumors and ideas will float around from now until the banquet. but, like steve said, there will probably be no rule changes for next year...(except something probably added about the brakes?) blink.gif

see, i knew you would be getting alot of good advice from alot of fine individuals that are very good drivers in that class. there is alot more and i am sure you will hear from them as well. they have done their homework very good and give you some very solid advice from experience, lol

There is no other race track that compares to A/C in the whole state of Michigan!

If your looking for a good car I've got the one your looking for turn key or roller. Car is a 76 Chevy Monte Carlo with all the best stuff no expense was spared when this car was built three years ago. You can ask any body on here and they will tell you the same. Car is A/C and Dixie legal. I won the 2006 track chamionship in this car at dixie. I only raced it a hand full of times this year but when i did the car was always a top three car. For more detail PM and i will make you a heck of a deal.

P.S. You can buy a good gar a lot cheaper than you can build one!

The race director used to be Jimmer Daniels, and is now Mike Rennike (not sure on the spelling.). Mike took the job over like a month ago. I don't know him so I can't say much about him. It seems to me you are always trying to bash AC or its drivers. You must be one of the spartan guys that is acting stupid. (no disrespect to Spartan. just this individual.) Too bad about that, but if you dont know these people you might want to refrain from speaking about them. Base your opinions on things you know not what you hear.

no the flag mans kid did not get his spot back so who ever said that is talking smack
