No....Dixie did it and it did not work. If they want these cars on the half-mile they will add Sportsman....which my sources say they will next season on a bi-weekly basis.

I think AC would be smart to make their FS follow sportsman rules, as it is looking like FS are done at Dixie. I dont care what track, but you need to be able to run a 9" ford floater if your gonna change gears. One way or another the division being created between classes will hurt car counts. It would be nice for these guys to be on the same page thats for sure.

Chad, floaters were legal this season at Auto City in the FS. I believe Dixie as well.

My bad it was dixie FS that had floaters illeagal. All the same....my point is still my point a dixie sportsman needs to be as close to legal at AC as possible if they get rid of the FS at dixie. I dont really care cuz I dont race them, but I would like to see our local tracks more viable. I think the AC FS and LS put on an awsome show on the little track too.

The real sticking point is the transmissions, pretty much everyone at Dixie in the Sportsman has a direct drive or stick (except mine). Also a lot of cars have relocated the front shocks for front screw jacks. The motors are already the same, as are the tires, and basic chassis rules. The weights are a little different, though. But I do see your point.

well there not going to get rid of the fs on the 1/4 are they.that would sux.thats my favorite class next to ls..but i would like to see the sportmans there,,as long as they get rid of the tt..and make them move up to fs.or sportsman..the sportsman put on great races at dixie..but dixie shouldnt get rid of there fs class...what would be the point in that

i personally feel that they should just allow screw jacks anyways in fs it makes the car way easier to scale

I'll say this, when I saw and heard Kyle on the 1/2 mile, it reminded me of Mt. Clemens double 'O' cars in the 80's.
I think sportmans would be a kool class at AC.

No probably not, but I have no idea. We just spoke to Mike regarding a FS and he highly suggested we plan on making the move to sportsman. I don't know what Jeff would do. I imagine he would not immediatly make alot of large changes.

Making the rules the same would also increase the sale value of the cars, because you can race them in more than 1 division. Which is exactly the reason that we kept mine FS legal so that when we decide to sell it it can be marketed as a car that can/has raced in multiple divisions.

Its the evolution of classes it happens all the time look at pro lates they started out as "factory/pro" stock then got faster and they added a new class and move them up its what they do and bombers are getting faster every year they get closer and closer to FS eventually (say in about 2-3 years) they will move the FS up to the half mile and the bombers will be the new FS but for those of you who are worried dont be i highly doubt that its going to happen next year but it is going to happen.

If you go to a promoters work shop they will tell you to cut your top class every five years and move others up.

I thought the saying goes "those who don't learn from History are doomed to repeat it" Since the dixie FS rules haven't changed for about five or six years and considering that the lead sled class is doing so well because of consistant and thourogh teching then I would predict that at dixie, these classes won't be messed with. The're not broke and they don't need fixing. A/C on the other hand has a lot of classes with thunder trucks and FS and L/S. The show would get over with faster if there were fewer classes but I don't know how you could ever consolidate them. I have to think that Kern knows when to stop this "evolution" of classes. I have seen it time and again elsewhere. look at the Whittemore F/S, half way to pro-stock again.

i say dont change the rules.....both tracks get good counts.. look what heppened to spartan when they changed, got no cars, and i heard they are changing back. dixie is doing it right, sportsman and FS. not all of us can afford to switch. i think making changes for "evolution" is silly. the economy is bad, not alot of people have the $$ to make the changes to sportsman.. i know i dont.

You will lose some of the car count for the class if you move them up, some guys just don't want to run on the big track, and some of the cars just are not built good enough to run the half mile. Although the rules for that class put on a good show on either track.

Again, Dixie tried this 3 years ago. It did not work. I believe only one car that ran Dixie at all on the quarter-mile moved up, and that was Dale Malusi. None of the other drivers even tried it, they just ran Auto City or nowhere at all. And the next season the FS were back on the quarter-mile. The factory stock class is even stronger at Auto City and I think it would be a very bad move to take the factory stocks and put them on the half-mile. I do think that adding the Sportsman on a limited, rotating basis would work for '08. Also, give the FS a few weeks off, especially on the weeks that they may plan on running the sportsman class to give the FS guys a chance to try it.
I have already heard multiple rumors that Sportsman will be running Auto City in '08 on a limited basis, rotating with another class every other week.
But do not eliminate the FS class that would be a bad business move.

for what its worth,
"leave the rules the same for A/C factory stocks just put them on the 1/2 mile "
you couldn't draw most of the sportsman cars currently running at Dixie.

"leave the rules the same for A/C factory stocks just put them on the 1/2 mile" it isnt that simple. to be fast, you have to run the dogcrap out of your motor 6800-7200 RPM's. im willing to bet that most guys motors arent built to run those kind of R's for the amount of time needed on the half mile. the tranny stuff is a problem too, but kyle showed you dont HAVE to have one to be fast. i know some guys have cast cranks and stuff and those just wont last, the good stuff costs alot more.

as a fan i would not want to see all the factory stocks be made to move up.but the one that want to will, with guys like lampson and others in the lead sled moving up to fs.will still provide great racing on the 1/4 mile.with guys like me building a car to run in the ls.will still have a great car count in that class.the tt need to be eliminated there is only 8 on a good day.they have the motor to run a factory stock.or allow them to run the truck in the factory stock races..there again is more cars..i would love to see sportsman there.they put on great racing.but i dont wanna see them made to move up..like john said some guys dont have they money, and some just dont wanna..but i bet there will be more sportsman this year then there was last.for even better racing
i got $5 on it
