By Matt Prieur-ASA Late Model Series

Lexington, Michigan (10/04/2007): With the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division 2007 Points Season now complete and the ASALMS Northern Division 2007 points battles wrapping up this weekend in West Salem, Wisconsin; ASALMS teams from the Midwest may still be looking for a place to go to get that one final event in before preparations begin for the 2008 seasons.

The ASALMS may have just the cure as the resurrection of the USPRO Cup Series for the 2008 season has created quite a stir in the racing circles. With one Sneak Preview already in the books, the USPRO Cup Series will make a return trip to the famed 0.500 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval of the Winchester (IN) Speedway in Winchester, Indiana during one of the most prestigious race weekends in the entire Midwest.

The second and final USPRO Cup Series Sneak Preview appearance of the 2007 season will be during the prestigious Winchester 400 weekend for the CRA Super Series as the USPRO Cup Series will run the Winchester/Sneak Peek 50 on Friday and Saturday October 12-13, 2007. The Winchester 400 for the CRA Super Series will headline the weekend on Sunday October 14, 2007.

There is no Entry Form for the October show in Winchester, Indiana for the USPRO Cup Series, however there will be a $50.00 entry fee the day of the race.

The ASALMS asks that any team that plans on racing in Winchester, Indiana during the Winchester 400 weekend to please call the ASALMS Home Offices in Lexington, Michigan to indicate if your team will be attending for Promotional purposes by Monday October 8, 2007

Bollhoff Rivnut Super Pro Series Rules will apply with ASALMS procedures in affect for the October race! Any and all ASALMS Type Cars such as the Bollhoff Rivnut Super Pro Series, MAARA Series, and any team within the entire United States and Canada with the Template Body/Crate Engine package, are all invited for both shows at the Winchester Speedway.

The USPRO Cup Series teams will be racing on the ASALMS Northern/Southern Division tires for the October race in Eastern Indiana. USPRO Cup teams that come to Winchester will be allowed to practice on any tire that they bring with them, just like it was at Owosso and the first event at Winchester. This event will once again be a Two (2) tire race and teams must purchase a minimum of Two (2) tires to Qualify and Race on.

In the USPRO Cup Series’ first appearance at the famed high-banks on Labor Day Monday, September 3, 2007; Fort Wayne, Indiana veteran, Al Cook Jr., took the win in the USPRO Cup Series Winchester/Sneak Peek 35 over his younger brother, 2007 Super Pro Series Champion Tommy Cook.

Richmond, Michigan veteran, Bob Varney led the first Six laps before finishing third over Bob Sibila Jr., and 17-year-old Royce Mason II, who completed the Top Five. Jason Dietsch, who was involved in a Lap 22 incident after a great battle with Cook Jr., for the lead during the World Stock Car Festival, established the USPRO Cup Series Track Record with a 16.421, which measures out to a fast 109.616 MPH.

As for the 2008 season for the USPRO Cup Series, details are being worked out and will be released in conjunction with the 2008 ASA Late Model Series schedules, which will be available by Late-October 2007.

The ASALMS is looking at minimum of 50-lap Features in 2008 and the series will reinstate the Two (2) Tire rule throughout the 2008 campaign. Payouts and purses will also be determined in conjunction with the release of the 2008 schedule in Late October.

In addition, the USPRO Cup Series will always be a support division to the ASALMS Challenge and Northern Divisions in races conducted in the series home state of Michigan as well as the surrounding states of Indiana and Ohio.

The USPRO Cup Series will not have a stand alone event. A 6-8 race schedule is being planned with a separate points standings and the crowning of a 2008 USPRO Cup Series Champion and Rookie of the Year at the conclusion of the season.

For future seasons within the USPRO Cup Series, drivers who make the transition from the USPRO Cup Series to one of the three ASALMS divisions will be eligible for the respective Rookie of the Year titles providing they fall under the guidelines set forth for Rookie Eligibility under the ASALMS.

USPRO
I just want to remind everyone that this is a two tire race, 50 laps for $1,200 to win and $300 to start. We will also be using this to gage the interest of whether or not to move forward with USPRO in 2008. Currently we have 10 cars entered for this event, I would like to see 18-20 cars. If we cannot pull cars for USPRO races there is no point in scheduling dates in 2008.

Sincerely,

Ron Varney
President
