October 18, 2007-The Indiana Modified Racing Series began its inaugural season for 2008. This will bring the east coast style of modified
racing to the Hoosier state. IMRS creators have been working feverishly to
bring the racers of Indiana an affordable series that will allow them to
race competitively while keeping rules tight to keep the series
affordable.
The IMRS has been formed keeping the racer in mind. With help from Mc
Gunegill Engine Performance of Muncie, Indiana the series is only going
to allow two engine packages. The GM 604 crate engine from Chevrolet and
the Mc Gunegill built Ford 425 will be the only engine packages allowed
to run in IMRS competition. All engines used in the series will be dyno
ran on the MEP dyno, sealed by MEP, and tuned within 5 horsepower of one
another. This will allow all competitors to know that their engine is
just as competitive as the engine that their competitors have.
The series is unique in the fact that any chassis is legal to run in the
series. The series will allow the East Coast/New York style modified, the
IMCA style modified frames, and nearly any type of tube frame chassis
currently used in full size late model stock car racing. This will allow
competitors from many divisions to compete. A competitor could take their
tube frame late model chassis and put a series legal body on it and run
in the IMRS.
The IMRS has also created rules that the shocks and calipers must beavailable to all racers and have a published racers net price of no more
than $300. All competitors will use the MSD 6AL boxes equipped with a
series provided 6200 RPM module. Transmissions used in the series will be OEM stock type manual or automatic transmissions such as the T-10 or
Saginaw transmissions. Some of the more technical rules require the cars
to remain above 2400 pounds, within an 84” tread width, a 40” roof
height, as well as allowing an 8 inch spoiler.
Ten inch American Racer Racing slicks will be the series tire. The tires
will be available to racers at a price less than $115 (with tax) per tire
and competitors will be required to run more than one event on each tire
purchased.
IMRS officials are currently working with several Indiana tracks as well
as other traveling series to put together 10-15 events in the 2008
season. Races will pay a minimum of $750 to win on 50 lap races.
