any "big" announcements for 2008?
Can you believe that a lot of people went to the banquet expecting a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT were all disappointed. Mike said that him and krista will be there next year but are not announcing the night of racing until tuesday....tuesday they will announce if they are running friday or saturday nights...

Joe is building a new tech barn, drove the track yesterday and seen the area section off. And the figure 8 track is going in this year with new lighting.

Is it true fabricated tail sections will have to add 100lbs in the FS?
TT22KH
Nov 5 2007, 04:08 PM
Yes, Chad.
racer72
Nov 5 2007, 04:49 PM
what's the logic behind a 100lbs penalty for a fabricated tail section? Where's the handling advantage? Don't most guys pile weight in the back of their cars on the small track anyways?
And, forgetting this tail sectio weight penalty, if I had the right 4 speed stick, could I run FS and Sportsman in the same night with the same car and be competitive in both assuming I'm geared right for both tracks?
CaptainCam
Nov 5 2007, 06:07 PM
Racer72
That may be a stretch, I would think with the difference in the banking, and the difference in cam profiling would be a disadvantage. I think you could be competative but, not a front runner.........course I have been wrong before. Kyle Hayden would be the best one to answer this question, he switched back and forth last season with sucess on both tracks
TT22KH
Nov 5 2007, 06:23 PM
You would definitely have to set your cam up for the half-mile and just live with it on the quarter.
It would be a lot of work to do it right. I could see a lot of guys just doing it for start money, I am actually shocked that more FS guys didn't do it.
I do think it could be done. It just takes a while to figure out exactly what changes to make on the chassis to get it to work. On my car, I would have to open up the rear stagger around half an inch and turn on the screw jacks to get it right. After a while I got my car to work on the small track with less stagger, though, so that would be one less change, but you really have to figure out exactly what changes in cross weight you would have to make. But then again I was also making shock changes between the quarter and half mile so that would be another thing to do between races.
That would be a tall order, I say if someone were to do it and win both they should get a big bonus or something. Offer a thousand to anyone who can win both races in the same night in the same car. That would be a $300 bonus.

Well after Mike Kern's stunt on saturday at the banquet, now he promised us he would release the announcement of which day we are running on...on his website today....we will see if this happens or not

Why is everyone so upset that he did not announce what day he was running on at the banquet? I don't remember anyone official saying that there would be a "big announcenemt" at the banquet, just a bunch of rumors about one.
How do you know that he didn't ask some people at the banquet what they thought before making a decision?
I wouldn't call it a "stunt", he just said that the decision will be made on Tuesday.
So what's the big deal?

Today may not be the best day to be making any kind of announcement.
Let's try a little patience with this, considering all that has happened in the last few days.

well im far from a champion,,but the way i would look at it..what class do you run..for your class whitch track is better...i run ls and i love the 1/4 mile at ac..its faster and has more banking to it then dixie..so i would personally run ac...for my track...but if i ran something higher like a sportsman,mod,ect..i would run dixie for the better track...but i still think it would be stupid to run 2 tracks 13 miles apart on the same night...

Understanding that this thread is a Dixie thread, this brings to mind that in 2008, I-96 will move to Saturday nights and it is about 30 miles away from Crystal Motor Speedway, a long standing Saturday night track. The real goofy part is about half of the I-96 staff, including all of the scoring staff, also works at Crystal. Things could be interesting on both sides of the state if Dixie indeed does change.

On the pavement side you have a potential of 3 tracks within 45 minutes of each other all running on Saturday nights, if the rumored move is indeed true;
Dixie, Owosso, and Auto City.
Our (ASA Late Model Series) date at Dixie is slated for Friday OR Saturday August 15th or 16th. We're waiting along-side everyone else on the announcement (If there is one).

So, Dixie goes to sat. to hurt the cars he lost to Whittemore and also some from Auto city, and that makes it a no brainer for Owosso to change to Friday.

fastbruce88
Nov 6 2007, 08:44 PM
I think Saturdays for any track is a no brainer, too many people and racers have jobs that prevent them from attending or racing on Friday nights, race tracks like anything else is survival of the fittest, I know in my own case there was no way I could race on Fridays unless I quit my job, I loved Dixie and would support it if I were still in Michigan, But since im here I support Hickory Speedway on Saturday, I will be racing again in 08 there in the familiar #13 Black Camaro...Bruce

Mike75,
Although this upcomings season's schedule is not yet prepared, Spartan ran the supers every Friday night save for scheduled nights off, (as they did with all classes) last season and likely will do the same this year.
Didn't mean to hijack here, just info for Mike75.
have a good day,

Sounds to me like Mike & Krista wanted to use the Banquet as all Banquets are intended for, to honor it's champions & provide a entertaining evening for all that raced so hard at the track all season. If you were only going there for a "big announcement", then you were'nt there for the right reasons either. You could have stayed home & checked the website. They showed some class in letting the Champions have their night. Congrats to all the Champions & to all that worked so hard all season. You put on great shows week after week. Although I enjoyed the Friday night races, Saturdays will be much easier to get to with work, family, etc. Congratulations again & have a great off season racers!

That wouldn't matter in the least. Spartan and Auto City cars are different breeds, you can count on one hand and have fingers left over on how many Auto City cars would go over to Spartan on Fridays and have ALL of your fingers left as to how many Spartan cars would go to Auto City.

Nov 7 2007, 12:14 PM
My point is that you will make the trip on Fri if you are not otherwise running. If AC is running they wont go to Spartan, so it really does matter. I know right now alot of people will make the trip if they run AC on Sat. No way if AC running on Friday. Matt if you had been at those invites at Spartan you would see we go to Spartan if there is no races close to home. It does matter in the least!

My wife and I have been to several of the Spartan Slugfests over the years and while recently it may have lost some of its' luster, they were still really good events. It's just that if given the choice of Spartan or Auto City on Friday nights, Spartan cars won't stray over to Auto City and vice versa.
Auto City would do itself a world of good by ripping out the pavement and going back to what is used to be in its glory years; One of the best dirt tracks in the country. Then it could stay on Saturday nights and prosper.
My Dad said way back when that "It was a sad day in racing in Michigan when Auto City was paved."
How many Flint/Tri-Cities area dirt drivers have to drive to Crystal or Owendale on Saturdays. You'd be surprised at how many dirt cars there are in those two areas alone!
Imagine the fields of cars if Auto City went back to dirt! Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Led Sleds, and Hornets on Saturday nights under the UMP banner; There would be 120-150 cars a night!

Auto city going to asphalt was not that bad for the track. Seems like only a couple of years ago they would have an A feature, and B main, and a C main for the factory stocks. 20+ supers, and 20+ late models every single saturday night. I am not sure if there has ever been a great count for the thunder trucks, but Im sure the LS took away from the factory stock class.
The way that some people feel they have been treated by Autocity, dirt or asphalt the counts would still be suffering. Times are different, the staff is different, and the fans are different now.
