He can start by getting rid of all the chiefs at the Owosso Speedway and get more Indians seems to be that everyone was the boss and no direction and when thier is a rule then thats the rule. Have real score keepers and a real points person. Need to start with a Whole new staff is the start to getting drivers back also. Joe

I agree with the too many chiefs thing.

But whats with the comment on scorers? Eric and Christina have been there for years. My son also filled in last year and this year. SOMETIMES - they are over ruled from turn 2 on the way they score the cars - not their fault...too many chiefs things again!!!

I strongly agree with you guys, I believe a complete make over is due. A lot of people there that just dont care. Owosso has serious staffing issues, the pits (empty) are proof of that every week. People have stood by that track and sacrificed a lot for it, and its a shame when other tracks become more appealing and make you feel more at home, even though they are twice the distance away.
MaddMike
This could be a really good thread if everyone can be constructive and make logical suggestions rather than make the new promoter hate this club.
stinkfist
I think Owosso would do well to see its place in this market and do everything it can to attract cars that may have been misplaced by other tracks. It might be wise to look at another night. Go butter Jane up she's the township problem. Its a great track, and I hope it has success.

Yes i'm sorry for that on the people who score they are over ruled by some others in the turn two and i think they should go it is a buddy buddy thing thier, sorry to say but the other drivers know it's the truth. So lets please take care of the problem and we all can go racing and put on the show for our fans.................Joe

I figured getting some new staff who care about the drivers and fans, and who will do their jobs fairly and accurately was a logical suggestion.

I dont think many promoters love MSTRC. It is a sounding board for racers and fans. People are going to be critical of tracks here. I think anyone who has been around Owosso can see they have thier work cut out for them.

Yep, it is. I just wanted to say something aghead of all the other people who might come on and bash the track rather than pointing things out in a helpful way.

I'm sure no promoter is ever going to always like this cliub, but if we can give just one worthwhile thread that isn't offensive....maybe we can do some good.

As for the tracks needs....

I believe another building needs to go up between the mobile home and the grandstands. This could be the new bathrooms and possibly house a better concessions facility. Then the old bathrooms and concession area could be storage and souveneir sales.

Problem is, someone would have to pay for it.... but it sure would be nice.

Mike

The focus of Owosso needs to be asses in the stands and cars in the pits.
bobcat
I think a few tracks, like owosso, Spartan, and Whittemore would get more factory stocks, if they had a engine size rule, cause the 360& under cars don't like to run with big cube motors.

Very true but they really need to listen to the wants of the fans and drivers because it is what fills the stands and pits bottom line.

I agree. You can be mad at some things, but they must take somethings to heart.
MyOpinion
I think 2008 will be a rebuilding year for Owosso. I am not speaking as some sort of insider, this is my opinion as a race fan. The new promoter will bring in some fresh ideas and things will hopefully start turning around with the car counts and the fan counts.

Jane is out of the picture now, she has sold her land.
It'll be all sand and gravel baby..........................

HHHMMMMM, Sand and Gravel you say? Are you trying to tell us who bought it or something?
racer6
Was at Owosso twice this year. Went to SLM race and ASA show. Biggest thing from a fan perspective is bathrooms and concessions. Also, dragged out the SLM show and unorganized. Need a better announcer or he should have some training. I like this track and will be back if some improvements are made!!!
team80mi
Owosso Is a nice track, but they need good people. We need more tracks like Sparton, they say thank you for coming. There is one track I whent to for 40 years that I will not ever go back to, tell he sells it or it gets better.

stinkfist

Think we might be able to camp at the nationals? Do they still have the Nationals?

They havent had them for the last two years. Now its just the championship races. Same laps, same pay, and points count.

Do you remember Elmer driving his golf cart through the bonfire? Those were the days.

This is true, and it is not Travis "Dirty Boy" Smith, allthough he DID make a generous offer to purchase her land, but she elected to sell it to a gentleman from the Lansing area I believe, at a lower cost than Travis offered!!!!! Hmmmmmmmm...........

According to Travis of course!!!
kaycorbgm
My guess would be Slegels (sp) who own a bunch of S&G pits around this area.

She didn't want to sell to anyone that was associated with racing - hell the more money in the hand who cares what you do with it....
cpracer
Would have been nice had she even considered Rick Mulder who lives next door before selling her house to a gravel company.
stinkfist
Well its a shame they dont do it anymore. Those are the kind of things that give a sense of community and fun. That is what that track needs.
nate
thats why whitamore invotational is a blast camp all weekend and great races..plus jeff had guys all around michigan up there...if owosso could do this and they would bring in cars from all over..great track for some great races

I was told I was being talked about, again. It really is no surprise that people like to give the impression that they know what they are talking about, so here you go,

"Go butter Jane up she's the township problem"

The only time I caused a "problem" was when the dozers were confused as to where the property lines were when they were building the motocross. They took trees and even the survey stakes down on my property. I could have pressed civil and even criminal, I didn't. There has been no issues with neighbors, tracks or me since Ron and Dave took over.

"Did Jane sell her house too?" yes.

"Was just told sold to a Sand and Gravel place" no, to the county road commission.

"This is true, and it is not Travis "Dirty Boy" Smith, allthough he DID make a generous offer to purchase her land, but she elected to sell it to a gentleman from the Lansing area I believe, at a lower cost than Travis offered!!!!! Hmmmmmmmm..........."

And that's just a lie, Travis never made an offer to buy, if he did he forgot to present it to us. Not from Lansing, from Corunna. And again, lower, higher, equal could have been, because I don't know, never saw Travis's offer.

"She didn't want to sell to anyone that was associated with racing" No one associated with racing ever offered.

"Would have been nice had she even considered Rick Mulder who lives next door before selling her house to a gravel company"

again, not a gravel company, the road commission, that would be Rick's employer. And yes we did, that is why were please with the counties interest, because if not the county it would have been a gravel pit and the two operations are conducted different then one another. And CP the last you sold your house did you discuss it with your neighbors as to who would be acceptable to them? Just wondering.

Thanks for setting it straight Jane.

I also am quite impressed. Welcome to the club.

First off, welcome to the club Jane!!!

My statement came straight from Travis, he never said he made an official offer on paper, but verbally, so I apologize for any discrepencies. No disrespect was meant from me, or any of our members, I would think. We talk about racing and all that goes on around it, sometimes the story isn't 100% accurate in the beginning, but we always seem to get to the bottom of most subjects, eventually. Your participation has helped us do that on this subject. For that I thank you for sharing your side of the story, and setting the record straight.

Again welcome to the club, and I hope you stick around and chime in from time to time, especially with all your experience, and overall knowledge that you, and your family can provide our club with!!

Glad to hear they're making changes! Wish the new promoter the best of luck. Might have to check things out on one of my off nights.

For my part I apologize Jane. If you read any of my post regarding Owosso you will see I have a great deal of respect regarding what you and Wayne did for Owosso, and have defended that vigorously. Is there any chance now that you sold your property we could get you to buy Dixie? lol! Good to see you on the site. I certainly ment no offense!

Welcome to the MSTRC. You've ended a lot of rumors, and I hope others can see how rumors can be hurtful, and they contribute nothing to this site. Glad the air is cleared on this topic.
