Cook Claims 2007 Bollhoff Rivnut SUPERPRO Championship

Veteran driver Tommy Cook used consistency during the 2007 season to claim the Bollhoff Rivnut SUPERPRO Series championship for crate motored template bodied late model stock cars.
Cook scored one win in 2007 at his home track Baer Field Speedway. He also scored a pair of runner-up finishes along with three thirds and two fourths. A pair of seventh place finishes were his worst of the campaign. Cook won the point battle by 152 points over 19 year old Michael Gaier. Al Cook Jr. (Tommy’s brother), 2005 SUPERPRO Champion Rob Buckley, and Kevin Todd rounded out the top five. Cook and the rest of the drivers, owners, and crews will be honored at the 2007 SUPERPRO Awards Banquet on January 26th in Jackson, Michigan.
Young 19 year old Colin Toland used three top ten finishes to help win the “Five Star Racing Bodies Rookie of the Year “ award. His best finish was a second at Plymouth, Indiana in July, a race that he led for the first 68 laps.

2007 BOLLHOFF RIVNUT SUPERPRO SERIES - YEAR IN REVIEW

Angola, IN. - The Bollhoff Rivnut SUPERPRO Series for late model stock cars kicked off its 2007 season with the running of the “Engineered Systems 75” on Saturday at the Angola Speedway with young Mike Gaier making a late race pass to capture the victory.
Former champions Rob Buckley and Jack Landis led the 20 car field to the green. After battling side by side for several laps, Landis assumed the point.
The battle continued until lap 59 when Buckley, making a bid for the lead, came in contact with a lapped car and brought out the caution, with a flat tire ending Buckley’s chance at victory. Landis continued to lead but appeared to have a left rear tire going down. Gaier took full advantage and passed the 2004 SUPERPRO champion for the lead on lap 68. At the finish it was Gaier, Landis, Tommy Cook, Dietsch, Kugler with Mark Kortz, Rick Everidge, Al Cook, Jr., Mike Tutino, and Smith rounding out the top ten.

Winchester, IN. - The Bollhoff Rivnut SUPERPRO Series paid its first ever visit to Charlie Shaw’s historic Winchester Speedway and Edgeton, Ohio’s Jason Dietsch picked up the first SUPERPRO win of his career.
Young Derek Bischak and Al Cook, Jr. led the field to the green of the “Aluminum Racing Products 50” with Cook, Jr. jumping into the lead. Michael Gaier moved quickly from his sixth starting position to grab the point on lap four. Fast qualifier Rick Turner, Dietsch and Tommy Cook all began to put the heat on the leader. Gaier made contact with the turn four wall on lap 15 and made a miraculous save down the front stretch to maintain the lead. Dietsch moved to second on lap 16 and into the lead two laps later.
Turner made hard contact with the wall on lap 22, bringing out the first caution of the event. Cook made the save of the century as he lost it out of turn four trying to pass Dietsch and somehow missed the water barrels that protect the inside wall.
At the half way point, it was Dietsch followed by Rob Buckley, Gaier, Al Cook and Bischak. Tommy Cook moved from the tail to fourth by lap 34. It was all Dietsch to the checkers followed by Buckley, Gaier, Tommy Cook, and Bischak with his best SUPERPRO finish to date.
