The first foreign built cup car will make it debut at the Daytona 500 in 2008, and it’s not a Toyota.

It won't be a repeat of qualifing like at Talladega. They'll have to race thier way in and they plan on having a rookie (to Nascar) driver. Any predictions on how many races until they make the field? 5 or 6? Never?

All I can say is they better have, a mountain of money, it will be allmost imposible to get in a race for them...Bruce

DID THEY CHANGE THE WING OR IS IT JUST SOMETHING FOR THAT PICTURE I WONDER? THAT WING MAKES THE CAR LOOK BETTER IMO.

Does anyone else see the potential of American jobs going off shore to save a few bucks? This team has to have some base of operations to work out of here. Where would they park and reload thier hauler. Lets hope the other corporate owners don't pick up on this.

It is a Chevy, but they still have an up hill battle ahead of them just to make the field.

How did an established race team outside the country wanting to build a car to come to America turn into us losing jobs?

WOW rolleyes.gif

If you read that article the team has had alot of success building race cars. They have numerous wins on the road course and a Nascar is built to somewhat the same rules. They are looking to bring some new ideas into Nascar by buying some of our parts and trying to field a car. If they didn't build the car they would just continue to race out of the country.

I for one think it is great they want to try. The worst that's going to happen is their going to spend a bunch of money and not make the show. Seems to me that happens already. Who knows they might bring a few new ideas and start making races and running up front.

If the frames and suspenion points are all the same and the bodies then someone could start producing them cheaper in Mexico as many of our jobs have already been sent there for cheaper labor and less pollution laws.

So how does this team building a car cause this?

For years the automakers have been sending jobs away because trained monkeys can do alot of the labor. When you start talking about a nascar frame, where they have it down to each weld being done in a certain order for a certain length, they want trained workers.

Until Nascar demands a spec frame built outside the U.S. the cars will still be built here.

Yesterday i read an articale in sportillustrated or motor trend about Dale jr going to hendrick. It stated that DEI did not make their own chassis. It was reported that when Jr and his crew had questions to ask their was no none at DEI that could answer them. The articale stated that he felt this put him at a big disadvantage compared to hendrick. I found it amassing that a team as big as DEI woulod outsource such an important part of the car.

has this team tested yet at Daytona?
