Full Version: where do you pass on A/C's big track?

I've probably been to A/C 3 times in my life to watch races and have never been on the track. Where do most of the passes take place? Do many passes occur on the outside of 3&4? or are most of the passes on the bottom? I believe with my current set up for Dixie, I rely heavily on corner speed and sacrifice forward bite.

It seems like alot of passing is done coming off of two so you may want to get some bite in her.

ive seen passes everywhere...you can do them on the outside 3.4 if you have the big set strapped on that day....but most are going out of 2 down the back stretch....but you have to let off after he does cuz they will stay right next to you thrue the corner...and alot go into 1...never really seen passe on the outside of 1 an 2....but ed howe and tommy meir could do it...so it is possible

If you have the set up, you can pass anywhere on that track. Bubba has run the outside of the track all the way around in the Pro Lates. I have seen Robbie Johnson pass all the way around the inside. Norm passes inside and outside. If you have the right size rocks, you will find out where you can go. rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

Usually off of turn 2 on the bottom. If you are real good you can do it off 4 on the bottom too. Passing on the outside is very rare and like Nate said you better have some guts to do it because the wall can sneak up quick off 4, and off 2 it can be difficult to see the edge of the track.

the best place to pass at AC is coming off 2 and going into 3, make a real late entry into 1 to change the apex it gives you a good run off 2 then if you havnt cleared them outbrake into 3, you can clear lapped cars anywhere but 1 its hard to do there, I was one that passed outside from time to time but be warned there are some real assho!es that race and will not hessitate to run you into the wall off 4, I had Oconner do it to me twice both times it wrecked my car, its a fun track but it takes a while to get the hang of it

off 4 is it like passing on the `outside at Dixie? If they don't see you, its your responsibility to back out.

Not really, Curt. Dixie has 2 racing grooves in the corners, if not 2 and a half. Auto City has 1 and a half, I would say. The fast guys at Auto City drive it in to 3 hard, wash up a little and turn and stomp on the gas and drive it off the corner. And it is really hard to get a run on the outside off of 2 just because you can run out of real estate quick on the backstretch. So the odds of you actually getting into 3 on the outside of someone where they can see you is slim.

If you want to race there you have to set it up to pass on the bottom. On a rare occasion a guy will hit a set up perfectly and be able to pass on the top, but it takes a long time to clear cars and takes its toll on tires as well.

It is a totally different monster than Dixie and yes it it a fun track to drive. And by no means am I the expert I probably have 150 laps or so out there.

A championship quarter-mile driver ran Auto City this summer one time on the half mile and he said he hopes he "never has to drive on this track again."

You can pass outside going into 4 by using the very top of the track going down the stretch turning in late as possible and using the extra track to add brake time. Getting back on the throttle as soon as possible and having rear steer pull u around and being able to keep easing into the gas with no flat spots or burps is the final requirement. That is where you lay claim to a lane. This is the- decision line. Can he see me? Will he run me into the wall? Is he a clean driver? Is this the last lap?
That does not mean you won't get squeezed into the wall at the flagman and have to give up what you just risked the ship on.
Braking early into 1 and getting back into it soon and drifting up in front of the outside guy is a good move for there. But you have to be in the gas hard and soon cause you killed a lot of speed braking early. If you can get in far enough down the b-s down low the outside guy may not want to risk cutting down on you cause he may turn himself into the fence at 100 mph. Psych em out if you get a bumper to the driver. A tap can be serious trouble there.
Passing outside turn 1 can work well if you can drift it in and get it turned and get back in it quick you can pass 3 wide gettin around bottom feeding track blockers cause they won't even see you till you are past em. If they bump or check you got em both.
Those walls are hard and speed is fast on the 1/2. Learn to run out there and you will win.
You can run so far out down the b-s you will feel in danger because of the beginning of the cement wall looks like it could cut you in half. It probably could and it looks different than when you were a bottom feeder cause you never really noticed it......that is the right spot anyway.

you can pass on either side of the car in front of you! Good luck

Pass em in the pisser, good idea. Nascar drivers don't work that hard.
