I never shaved any tires I just found used ones with no dry rot and less than a 1/4 inch of tread. Wire the fan direct with a switch so it runs all the time.

Make sure you can use the motor if it is a quad 4. Some races do not allow quad valve heads. If it is a 2.5 it should not be a quad engine. The 2.5 is based on the old iorn duke. When looking for parts for this engine most 2.5 parts will fit with the exception of the u code engine. These heads are differnt and so is the block, they are shorter to fit it the smaller cars Grand am,Cutless Calia,Ect...
If you do'nt mind the work use a trany out of one of these smaller cars, better gearing and smaller converter.

thanks for all the advise so far, someone told me to take out the heater core and air box for weight, would that be good, or should i keep it so it can also remove heat from the engine?

Berg,
in our humble opinion, You may be better off starting with another car and scraping or selling this one. It may be penny wise and pound foolish to build this car.
read these threads from spartan on building a pony stock,,
http://www.spartanspeedway.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6http://spartanspeedway.com/OldBoardStuff/P...eedSecrets.htmlin the Midwest, the best bang for the buck is a the common, plentiful and cheap, 4 door 1995 to 1999 Dodge Neon with the 16 valve SOHC 2.0 liter engine. the DOHC engines seem to be less durable.
Or just buy one ready to race.

I wired the fan into a switch after I started the car I turned the switch on and left the fan running the whole race.
For an endros the cars they are using at spartan are not the best choices because they use automatic trannys
edit
spartan uses automatics
endro winners use manuals

I didn't see any enduro's or rules on Whittemore's web site. Can you run a six cylinder FWD or does it have to be a 4 banger?

under Auto city's 2008 4 cylinder rules, the following listing from Racing junk .com is legal.
http://www.racingjunk.com/post/1109275/200...Mini-Stock.htmlthis 170 hp 6 speed trans 2003 Ford Focus SVT 4-Cylinder FWD Mini Stock is legal and would dominate.
$4,500.00
I am selling a 2003 Ford Focus SVT 4-Cylinder Mini Stock Dirt Track Racecar. The car is very fast. It has 10 A-Main wins and numerous heat race wins. I raced it at Muskingum County Speedway and Midway Speedway in Zanesville, OH. I am selling it because I am moving up next year. This is a front running car anywhere. It came stock with 170HP with a 6-speed transmission. The motor and tranny have about 27,000 miles on them.
There are many upgrades done to the car. Upgrades include:
-Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel
-Locked Differential
-Head Professionally milled .040
-Professionally Polished Head
-Cams reground by Crane Cams
-Predator ECU Programmer
(which did away with sensors and uneeded stuff)
-Special Spark plug settings
-Custom Cold Air Intake Box
-K and N Cone Filter
-4-2-1 Header (comes stock)
It comes with:
-Kirkey Aluminum Racing Seat
-Safe-quip 5-point harness
-Lots of wheels and tires
(Many different size tires)
-Extra door and 2 fenders
-Extra fuel tank
-Extra Hood
-Extra shocks and springs
-New spare radiator
-Allstar Performance Quick Release Steering wheel with racing wheel
The car still has the SVT supsension on the front. It has a nice solid roll cage in it. We moved the battery behind the seat. The fuel tank is in the stock location. We have a hatch for the back. We had it on but didnt run it because of air resistance.
It has a few donuts and such down the side but no major damage. The car has never been flipped or in any major wrecks. It is a GREAT car. The main problem we had with the car was the Right rear hub always broke. So we machined a hub out of steel so now it is solid and you wont have that problem anymore. Dont miss out on a one of a kind racecar. Thanks!
Price is negotiable
I have more pictures. Give me your email and I can send them to you.

The Predator 2002-2004 SVT Focus is applicable for the following vehicles:
2002-2004 SVT Focus
What is the Predator?
The Predator for the 2002-2004 SVT Focus is a state-of-the art, high performance tuning flash programmer in a sleek handheld design. Once connected to the vehicle, the Predators internal computer recognizes the vehicles PCM and automatically picks the proper tuning files designed specifically for that PCM. Inside the Predator's memory are the actual tuning files that optimize spark timing and air/fuel ratio curves. Unlike other 'tuners', DiabloSport's programming is performed in very small increments throughout the entire RPM range, for a smoother, wider and a more predictable power delivery. DiabloSport engineers spend many hours on the dyno, street and track to ensure the tunes provided with the Predator are the best they can be.
Why to get DiabloSport Predator?
The only flash tuner with exclusive FlashForwardTM ability allowing you to download custom tunes via the Internet.
The only flash tuner allowing you to get revision updates via Internet.
The only flash tuner with advanced OBD-II scanner capability:
read fault codes (DTCs) and their description in plain English (no need for extra books!)
both standard and proprietary fault code text included
reset fault codes
live data monitoring
The only flash tuner that logs* live data. Play back log on Predator or PC (Log Viewer for Windows is available FREE on DiabloSport's Downloads Page).
The flash tuner with a true graphical display that's 300% larger then the competition's puny text only display
The flash tuner running on a custom high performance, multi-threading KROS operating system
Dyno Tested Performance Tunes The Predator was created with one thing in mind, POWER!
Average power gains are in 10-15 FWHP (Front Wheel Horsepower Wheel) range. The Predators additional power makes itself noticeable immediately with an increase in power that starts in the low RPMs and builds into a frenzy at the high RPMs.
A Predator equipped vehicle will notice significant improvements in drivability. The additional power created by the Predator tune will yield quicker acceleration and better mileage, whether it is in town or out on the highway.
The power increase in the lower RPMs will yield a better throttle response. The increase in MPG is a byproduct of maximized engine efficiency, the improved timing curve and air/fuel ratio creates a more complete combustion, i.e. the engine extracts more power from each molecule of gasoline.
DiabloSport has generated all dyno tested tunes.
Predator tunes re-map the:
Fuel Curves
Timing Curves
Extend Speed Limiters
Extend Rev Limiters
DiabloSport Performance tunes require the use of Super Unleaded / Premium grade or 91 octane fuel only, like carried by Amoco/BP, Sunoco or Mobil.
Adjustable Parameters
Due to the complexity of the Focus SVT ECU/PCM no End-User adjustable parameters are available in the Diablo Predator. All custom tunes must be made using DiabloSport's Chipmaster Dyno Tuning Software. This software currently is only available to a nationwide professional tuner dealer network.
Diagnostics and Live Data Logging
The diagnostic feature allows the end user to scan and erase fault codes as well as monitor live data while driving. Predator can read and erase fault codes, and contains all the Ford specific P codes. Predator diagnostics will work on all 1996-2003 OBDII Ford Mustangs or F-Series Gas vehicles.
The diagnostics features can be used on any Ford OBDII vehicle, regardless if the tool has locked itself to a specific vehicle or not.
Data logging is available as well. Logging stores 30 minutes of data, with slow rate the logging allows for up to 90 minutes.
The log can be viewed in the Diablo Predator, or it can be uploaded to your PC for viewing with the FREE DiabloSport DAT Viewer for Windows software.
Custom Tuning can be done for almost any application without the need for the end user to send the Predator. We have PC Interface kits and software available for download and the tunes can be sent via e-mails or you can go to a local tuning facility.
Many of your custom tuning questions involving DiabloSport products may already be answered in the FAQ section of DiabloSport's website. If not you can post questions and get the answers in 24 hours. Please refer to FAQ.

"" holy crap, that car is legal? jeeze! haha! ""
YEP,,,and it comes from the factory with a tri y tubular header exhaust manifold.
It would be well over 170 HP with the milled and ported head, updated(cheated) cams and updated computer, Maybe up to 200 hp!!
thats why you have to severely regulate these FWD cars,,,and only allow very restrictive exhaust systems,,,the standard Focus should be legal but not the SVT...and the exhaust outlet should be 1 1/2 inches max for ALL 16 valve cars.
right now only the Neon has to run the smaller 1 1/2 outlet,,,according to the AC rules,,this SVT ford focus can use 2 inch outlet.
It is a major loop hole in AC's rules.

About 15 psi Nitrogen in the left hand tires (nitrogren doesnt expand like air when it heats up) and about 40 psi hellium on the right hand tires (to help with the left side weight percentage)
Seriously tho, that all depends on how the car handles... We'll help ya with that. Heard you got the ok to add that car to our stable! Should be fun
