All right, why does everybody have to change history... Poor Paul 275????

Everybody knows its nice to honor Paul , but you need to leave things alone and leave it the HARVEST!!
That would be the best way to honor him. Leave it, what he made it...

Its one of those races that stands alone and is known by its name recognition..like the Glass City, WOOD TIC, etc...

LEAVE IT ALONE BIG ED!!!! Now I stand on my soap box!

HARVEST<HARVEST HARVEST

see yah todd

modfan
I totally agree with Todd that this should not be changed. Sorry but why change the name of the Harvest?

And there you have it.

It's a name, nothing more, nothing less.

It is no new news that Paul's health is failing him the last couple years. This is a way of honoring him in a way that he can still enjoy it and see it with his very own eyes. All too often we lose someone in our racing community and then honor their name after the fact. Jim wanted to honor him NOW, not after the fact. Just for your information, Paul LOVES it. And just for all the folks out there that treasure the word HARVEST, I will call it by the above name.

I mean, why shouldn't we put the name of the Speedway's patriarch on the signature race of the season for the speedway?

Personally, I have no problem with the change, and don't think it will harm one thing, or ruin any tradition that this race has garnered.

Oh my word...why are people so afraid of "change?" I think this is a great idea - why not honor Paul now so that he can enjoy this event named after himself icon_smile.gif

I will tell you how you can honor Paul and thats by keeping Spartan Speedway a race track for the next 50 years!!!!!

You can honor him by keeping his Poor Paul Money drop, that was his thing...keep that going.

Leave the Harvest alone.... Paul would agree, honor him by bringing back the corn roast at the Harvest , etc...

Really Todd?? You are so close to him, go ask him what HE thinks about. Then post your results.

I'm sorry Jim & Paul didn't check with you before making such a drastic change.

Dang Todd, it's a NAME!!! Your acting like we changed what night we're going to race on!!!!!

I said I would call it the Poor Paul HARVEST 275, but you evidently have a problem with that too!!!
HRT187
thank you for posting the schedule(s) Ed, I appreciate it.
KBM17g
Even though I don't race there, I've been there several times over the last 6-7 years. I always enjoy the racing at Spartan. I think it's a great way to honor Paul! I'll be there that day too!
schinde
Having known Paul since 1975, when I worked for him at Interstate Sunoco, (located at the Logan St. exit from I 96), and having worked fire and medic service at Spartan well prior to ever racing there, and seeing everything that Paul (and Jim) have had to go through to keep the track open and running when Delhi Twp residents wanted the track closed and through the court system, gave him the limited schedule that he now has, and knowing that Paul is genuinely appreciative of what racing and racers have done for his life,

Why in the Lord's name would you, or could you, have an issue with the Harvest having his name added to it to honor all that he has done for us?

As Big Ed said, he will call it the "Poor Paul's Harvest 275".

Which means he is calling it what it really is, Poor Paul's Harvest 275.

And, I quite frankly think that it is wonderful way to let Paul know just how much he has meant to so many, indeed while he is still with us.

have a good day,

schinde

Amen Matt............Paul is one of the nicest people you will ever find in racing and in the state of Michigan.

While not a Spartan regular I do make it there a few times a year and always enjoy talking with Paulie. Maybe I don't have the right to weigh in on this one but I do happen to agree with it being Poor Paul's Harvest 275.
BigEd
I just happened to talk to Jim Leasure last night, he called me to make sure I get with him to get the Spartan/Springport donations for the Bowling Tournament here in a few weeks, because Jim and his lovely wife Sandy will be on vacation right up until the 8th of February. Jim told me he never intended to take out the word HARVEST in this traditional race. This was an error, an oversight, and has been corrected. Of course, none of us thought that this would cause someone to have a panic attack!!! So to ensure Todd's health, we would like it to be known, that the OFFICIAL title of our season ending race is.................

Poor Paul's HARVEST 275

Is that ok with you Todd??? LOL
BigEd
Also, please note:

We had originally planned to have the Old Time Racing Series at BOTH tracks this season. These series races are all in conjunction with the Cup Series. The August MIS race will bring this series to Springport, and we had planned on having the first one at Spartan in June. Jim told me that there is only one reason that kept this series from running at Spartan in June and that was our inability to give them a Saturday rain date for that weekend. Spartan cannot run on Saturdays, according to Township guidelines. So we had to have both of those races at Springport.

This brings a very interesting scenario that we have never had since running both facilities, and that is that they will be running the same night!!!! The Old Time Racing Series pretty much just rents the track out and bring their own officials, announcer, and flagman. Should be very interesting to say the least!!!
Galen
Sure glad we have that fixed! LOL
superpro
You and me both Galen......I haven't been able to sleep for days because of that......Paulie is so upset he went to Florida for a month......guess that will teach them to change things.....
MyOpinion
Hasn't it always kinda been Poor Paul's Harvest anyway? Adding it to the name just kinda makes it official...
chasinracin
Pheww, now I can breath again,,, This stuff just drives me crazy,,, you know like taking the pledge out of school, the national anthiem, no Merry Christmas....etc... America cant ever have their own identity, always trying to please everybody else, if yah know what i mean.... GOD BLESS AMERICA......

Het lets try the Daytona 500 as the TATA MOTORS 617 kilometers!!!! Hows that sound?

Another thought lets change Big Ed's nickname to Hollywood Ed!!! rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

See yah Todd
chasinracin
another thought , maybe thats why we are all Lions fans,, we can always plan on them being predictable and never changing!
chris
Good Golly Miss Molly.............

I sometimes get headaches reading some of this stuff.

Honor the man with what he wants and call it good. The whole point here is the race and the honor your bestowing on a gentleman that has had a huge impact on Michigan racing. I myself like the addition of Poor Paul to the Harvest name.

I swear you could serve some people with cold ice cream and they would bitch. Get over it and get on with it. Lets go racing.

I need some more pain killers for Gods sake.
