Full Version: NASCAR "hot" topic?
Michigan Short Track Racing Club > Series Discussion > NASCAR

I need to write an article that pertains to NASCAR. The diversity subject has, in a real short time, played itself out. If you were looking for a NASCAR article to read, what subject would you like to hear about?
Scotty_D
It would be refreshing to read something about the racing in the top stock car racing series. That might be a tough task with no racing going on right now.
wallbanger
an article about the haves & have nots in the busch series. how many teams are in financial trouble because of cup series buschwhackers drying up the limited sponsor money available. nascars changes do not seem to address any of the problems facing a team in running a full season!
digitalv
why Robby Gordon Racing needs a 7 post shaker system. And yes, I'm being serious. biggrin.gif

Also, an article on why Nascar drivers like going back to their roots and running dirt late models would be cool to read.

Verwayne,

Anything that would have to do with some of the guys who have to bust their backsides just to make it to the track and make it into the race.

Nothing about Gordon, Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie who?, or any of the top tier guys.

Maybe even something about a driver like Kyle Petty, who keeps digging away at it year after year with limited success, but a fire to keep racing.

Anything along those lines.

Or, maybe an article about how NASCAR has managed to destroy the concept of stock car racing in general, by trying their damndest to become mainstream, and proper, and politically correct, and everything else that a short tracker can't stand about the "top flight" of supposed stock car racing.

Moronic mulroons of multitudinal missteps and miscues made by mindless minions with myopic mindsets.

have a good day,

Well put, I totally agree.

How about an article where the COT and the tightly regulated engine program has put the cars back in the hands of the drivers.

Verwayne
Thank you... keep these coming. I have a series of four articles to do... diversity helps!

I don't know if V would want to start off bashing Nascar, esp if it is for a Nascar publication.

I would suggest an article on the age limit increase going around.

I listen to Nascar on Sirius when in the new car and they have some good topics on there.

Another one that I have though,

The issue of having to have SEVERAL sponsors, like Jr. 2 Car's (1 mountain dew, 1 National Guard)

The $$ issue that a sponsor can't pay for a whole season. In days past one sponsor, the whole
year or several years, now sponsors seem to change weekly.

Very true. An established columnist can 'rock the boat' but not a newbie. This doesn't mean I'll be sucking up to NASCAR, but I won't be ball batting them in the knees right away. I've got my first topic homework all but done... just need to get my last interview done.

If Robbie Gordon wanted a seven post jig he would buy one, they are around a million bucks he just spent 4.5 million to do the Dakar ralley that was cancelled, ive been around him He is his own biggest problem

You could do one on the" Michigan Auto Racing Caucus. " This is a very cool thing, it was formed due to Nascar and it s size and popularity, but it also very beneficial to short track racing. It pertains to the economic impact that racing offers. A bit of good news for a change! It shows another positive thing about racing.

I hear you Bruce. They guy just seem very arrogant. I am curious how he can sustain racing in cup when he is not performing.

Also what happened to him in that Busch race last year. He thinks "Tony can spout off, so can I" Well Robbie you are not of any caliber that Tony is.

I would like to hear about how the COT has really brought lower budget teams back into the equation? Have costs really gone down for the teams? Can teams like Petty Enterprises or Bill Davis Racing really compete again on the same level as Hendrick or Roush with the COT?

I would also like to hear about how gas prices effect NASCAR teams, since it seems like a topic that is important for all of us as local racers, I wonder how, if at all, it effects NASCAR.

Well we changed To chevys for 08, and are spending millions to build new cars and another team, we are lucky, we are fully funded for 08 and have a a budget that would rival Cup teams, but all we are doing now is for this year only as we have four COT chassis ordered now and will begin building cars as soon as Nascar and Chevrolet decide what path the bodies will take, in the long run it will save money but in the short term it will be a huge investment, Rusty and Richard Childress are trying to convince Nascar to put off the COT thing till 2010 that would be great, I dont know what teams like my old employer Fitzbradshaw, (Fitz now) will do they cannot afford to build all new cars, I just wish they would stay with the current 105 inch chassis and go to pony car bodies for 09 Mustang, Camaro and Challengers would be awsome and would all but eliminate the Buschwackers, or is it Nationwidewackers now? I dont see gas prices affecting much down here they really arnt that high and no one is cutting back on driving

Oh, he's got one, just would want to know WHY he needed one when his race teams should worry about good finishes first.
Verwayne
THANK YOU guys... it never hurts to keep it coming!

Bruce, I still want to talk to you about that thing we spoke about a couple weeks back. When is a good time to call?

The seven post jig is one factor that contributes to getting good finishes, along with a pull down plate, wind tunnels, engineers ect. it all costs huge bucks but is a necessity to even make a race in Cup nowdays and the Nationwide series isn't far behind, we have 3 full time engineers working at RWR, I have been here almost a year and I am one of only 5 that have been here that long the rest have been "replaced" its a brutal cut throat business, from what I can tell the key to job insecurity is a high salery, all the high payed 100k plus people get turned over

Our local rep is the chair of that caucus.. Mike Simpson. Along with Senator Mark Shaurer, who is running for US Congress this fall for the 7th district (Jackson, including Brooklyn).

Mike Simpson is holding a "coffee meeting" on Feb 4th here in town.

That is very cool and they have my support !
