So what gives with these two? Is one to blame over the other? While Busch did come close to a HD crew member, in the opening to the garage is not where you need to work on your car. Either get in your pit stall or take it behind the wall.

Did NASCAR serve any penalties yet? I'd suspend both from the Bud Clash since that is what race they were practicing for.

What I heard is that Tony was going to the outside and Kurt came up on him to block him. So who actually started it all? Tony should have lifted, Tony should have lifted. Good grief, he was clearly heading to the outside. It was an accident.
What Kurt did on pit road WAS NOT an accident.
He needs to act much more professional! Hopefully baby brother Kyle can help here!

They said Kurt slipped and hit a door in the trailer (wink wink) I think both of them got the message because they towed the company line pretty good in the prerace interviews.

I have to believe they both have a personalized chair in the NASCAR hauler with their names on them.

Should Tony have lifted? Maybe, allthough most of us [drivers] have hit others during practice,it happens.

I strongly dislike that kurt would say its "just an accident" like,

or something....its just a bunch of bull crap...
I have always stood on the fact that many people but a lot of time and effort into preparing that racecar and the driver has no business using it as a "retaliation" tool. I just think it is stupid that team owners and crew chiefs put up with this. As I driver, I would think, you would be grateful for your car, no matter how "justified" you think you are in retaliating, save it for the garage and your fists, which you control, save the car and save your team some time...jmo...

Well, even if Tony did smack Kurt around a bit.......at least it wasn't for all the fans to see right? Isn't that Nascar's biggest thing? "Actions detrimental to the sport", well if it was behind closed doors noone should have really seen it......only those there, so we really can't say what happened. If in fact Tony punched Kurt in the trailer I think Nascar let justice play itself out already! Nacar should build a UFC like cage and let drivers beat the tar outta each other, charge fans for a 2 for 1 show!!!!lol

Tempers and the like are what make racing great. When you watch the race you want to see those two together. Especially at short tracks. Good stuff.

The accident on the track during practice was just that, an accident. Close racing in a pack, Tony went to the outside to pass and Kurt tried to block and moved right up into Tony. Even if Tony had seen it coming and checked up it would not have made a difference since he had cars coming up on his tail, he would have been hit from behind and thrust into Kurt anyway.
Where the problem comes in is when the drivers start using the cars as a weapon as Kurt did when they were heading to Pit Road by ramming Tony's car. NASCAR and the team owners need to put a stop to that. It is totally senseless to do extra damage to those racecars out of anger. If drivers are upset with each other, once they are out of their cars if they want to butt heads and go at it and get in each others faces, fine, let them, but not by using the car as a weapon, on or off Pit Road.

Probably Tony puching Kurt's eye was an accident too! These two have always been NAPCARS problem children. Now that Spencers gone! Just another in a long line of Stewart/Bush BS. No one is suprised to hear about these incidents or who was involved.

I'm thinking Smoke would do exactly that, smoke lil' Kurt.
And probably a lot of others also.
And, he probably should have. Kurt's little toy boy stuff with his car was uncalled for.
Better yet, Tony's pit crew could have gone and taken care of the problem. Then, after Kurt's crew had to defend his little backside, they'd go and beat it in private afterwards, and Kurt would learn himself a lesson.

what I thought was interesting .. as soon as the race was over kurt was on a plane and headed to Charlotte ... I can just imagine the conversation he's gonna have with the captain .... now was it just me or did anyone else get the feeling that the crew was dragging its feet on the 2 car .. no zing or what-not ? sure didn't look like they did him any favors .. what happened on the track is just that .. happened on the track ... the banging on pit road has got to stop ... period .. and I think nascar and penske will have something to say about it ... the match up I would like to see is kurt and carl edwards .. talk about yer demo derby ...

Well....NASCAR is supposedly going to say today what they have decided to do about the incident with Tony & Kurt. I am anxious to see just how NASCAR decides to screw this one up to start the new season.
As for Tony's new "do", I think maybe he is going through a mini mid-life crisis, afterall he is getting closer to that 4 0 mark now. He says he just wanted to try something different for a while but I think he just wanted to try to feel and look a little younger.
I don't like it all that much either but I am starting to get used to it more, I thought he looked better with shorter hair. And I like guys with long hair if it looks good on them.
Maybe NASCAR should have a Charity PunchOut to start each season. Have it along with the ShootOut and it could entail them having a boxing ring and any driver that wanted to challenge another driver could sign up and challenge them for X number of rounds. Fans could buy tickets to go watch and all proceeds would go to the NASCAR Foundation. This way they could get some of their anger from the previous season out of the way.

Somehow, I'm thinking that is one thing Tony would not be good at, being a hippie.
He doesn't have what's needed to pull it off.
And his hair isn't near long enough yet.
Now, Kyle, he's the closest thing NASCAR has to us'un's.
Beyond that, they are all too clean cut.

FROM JAYSKI'S:
Penalties for Busch, Stewart after practice incident? UPDATE Probation: NASCAR chairman Brian France kicked off the 2008 media tour in Charlotte, N.C., last month by saying Sprint Cup drivers needed to show more of their personalities. #2-Kurt Busch and #20-Tony Stewart obliged on Friday night when they got into a sheet metal exchange on pit road after an on-the-track incident that wrecked both of their cars in the final practice for Saturday's Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway. Both drivers immediately were summoned to the NASCAR hauler to meet with Series director John Darby and competition director Robin Pemberton. They will meet again on Saturday before the governing body determines what fines, if any, will be issued. The only words spoken by either driver -- both left through a side door without commenting -- came from Busch before entering the hauler. "It's a great way to start off 2008," he said, clapping his hands together.(more at ESPN.com)(2-9-2008)
UPDATE: On SPEED's NASCAR Live, Bob Dillner reported that he spoke with NASCAR's Jim Hunter that Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch met Saturday morning in the NASCAR Trailer and the meeting was cordial. It was also reported that Stewart may had thrown a punch in the NASCAR trailer Friday night after the incident, but NASCAR declined to comment on that and no more about possible penalties for either driver yet. Dr. Dick Berggren talked to Stewart during practice, who was very contrite and said it was part of racing and that what happened was over.(2-9-2008)
UPDATE 2: NASCAR has placed drivers Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch on probation for the first six races of the 2008 Sprint Cup Series season, a result of their on-track altercations this past Friday during practice for the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona. Stewart, driver of the #20 Toyota and Busch, driver of the #2 Dodge, violated Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing; altercation with another competitor) of the NASCAR rule book.(NASCAR PR)(2-12-2008) Comment here.

Smoke probably sucker punched him, much like he blindsided the photographer at Indy. Smoke put his own crew member at risk by blocking the garage entrance on purpose. Maybe Home Depot can build a boxing ring and Miller bring the drinks for a charity boxing match.

Well there could be a problem with having the boxing ring a Eldora and letting Miller supply the beer. Tony prefers Schlitz!
