I did what I said I would. I watched the last couple laps. I have my NASCAR fix in now for the entire year.

On to local short track racing boys.

I thought the pre race was pretty good actually. Much better than any other sports pregame crap. The race itself wasnt any less boring than previous 500,s . The COT didnt make any difference to me. The last 20 laps were much of the same too. I do like the dragracing also. But I can fall asleep with either.

I thought the pre race was alright......the Dale Sr stuff is getting redundant though. Let him rest already after 7 years! Chubby Checker lip synced(sp?) his song, Michael McDonald smoked to many dooobeee's back in the day and seems to mumble more than ever and Brooks and Dunn were....well, Brooks a Dunn. I thought Trishia Yearwood did a great job on the "Star Spangled Banner".

The choice of musicians was as much about a walk through time over 50 yrs as it was to have diversity.
I thought the pre-race show was great, although I am not a Brooks and Dunn fan, they were okay and I enjoyed the show.
And by far the commercials for the 500 was MUCH better than the commercials for the Super Bowl.

Far too long. I refused to watch it. 1 hour and 45 minutes of blah, blah, blah.
And why are we starting a East coast race at 3:45 in the afternoon??? Why?? The drivers had to deal with a setting sun. It is dark when the race is over. You have to turn on the lights. And 200 thousand race fans have to negotiate their way out of there, in a logistical nightmare already, in the dark. Do they think more people watch because of the later starting time?? I don't see it, or get it. I like an earlier race time.
If I wanted to hear people singing, I would have went to a concert. Let alone the ones they picked. What rehab, or senior citizens center, let all those ex-singers out?? They had to dust most of them off before performing!!!
This long pre-race crap has turned into nothing more than a very long commercial. It is not necessary, and will not have me watching it. I don't mind driver introductions and some pre-race hype, but a hour and 45 minutes??? No thanks, I'll pass!!!
Could you imagine what local short tack fans would do if a promoter did THAT at their race track???

Ed,
As to the start time...
It's "THE GENIUS" and his never-ending desire to have the west coast care about the sport!
Did you notice all the "California Speedway" ads sprinkled through the broadcast?
"Tens of THOUSANDS of good seats still available!"

Well Bob, your probably right.
But if this is the reason why, I wonder why the MOST popular sport in the world, the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, doesn't subscribe to the same theory?? If you live in the Pacific time zone, your football games start at 10 AM, on Sunday!! Doesn't seem to hurt THEIR ratings too awful much, huh???
Idiots!!!!

you would think it was called the Darrel Waltrip 500!
The pre show was All DW, all the time,,,did they interview AJ Foyt? or any of the other past 500 winners?
Too much of DW and not enough about the RACING!
I muted the TV and turned on MRN radio,,,the only problem was that they are on delay of about a 1/2 minute,, so I was watching the front stretch on TV when the radio was still on the back stretch. I like the Radio broadcast better, they talk about who is passing who, even in the back.
DW does not talk about the racing on the track,,he talks about him racing years ago. Too big of an EGO.
I hated that he was on Wind tunnel that night too!!
Am I alone in the way i feel about DW?
MUTE THE TV, turn on MRN.

I like DW because what you see is what it is. He's REAL, and therefore not perfect. He shows human emotion, and he does not put on a fake front.
Yeah, sometimes he talks too much...

If you had a DVR, you could probably pause the TV for about 30 seconds and then start it up again to sync the TV with the radio broadcast.
Someone who has a DVR should try that during the next race broadcast and report here how it turns out.
