The tire size is a very misunderstood deal. The smaller the sidewall the less apt the tire will roll. But depending on what gear you need to run is an issue also that has to be thrown into the equation.
The tire size now days are called a metric system for example: 225/75/15 means
225= 225 millimeters wide=8.85 inches
75= 75% of the width is the height of the sidewall=6.64 inches=8.85x75%=6.64
The biggest issue is the diameter of the tire for locked up rearends and the correct stagger.
Also you have to watch the rules. At Owosso it says 8 inch tread width and under.
So with that said you should only be able to run 205/?/15. 205=8.05 inch treadwidth.
But with that size tire the tread might be narrower than what is put down on the track.
The biggest thing is to experiment with tires to find a good feel and setup.
To answer your main question about a 50 series tire and a 70 series tire.
It is a misconception as to those numbers pertain to the sidewall height.
The 50 series will give you less rollover.
Hope my babbiling helps ya out, Luke
