got rained out for t/t at dixie
last year i had a MOTOR
this year I got a 602 crate motor
last year with a 557 gear i ran 6400
should i change to a 513 to keep my r's down or a 538?
racer72
I'd stay there or bump up to a 5.67 unless that four barrel is more smoke than your old motor. Last year I started with the 5.42 and watched cars pull away on every straight-away. I had to make it up in the corners. I race better with a 5.75. I think that you suffer too much on starts and re-starts with less gear. Remember that we're 500lbs heavier than the pro lates that might pipe in.
racer72
Dale, what gear did you run? how much did you turn? I wasn't there, how'd yur night go?
kermit2
Curt, I put a 5:38 and it ran 5900 in the feature, I finished a half a lap back.
I have to learn how to race all over again.
but I did have fun, and i hope to improve this week.
c'mon out we were weak on cars

Dale,

Were you getting beat bad down the straights?? I think that 350 hp on that big track is really going to hurt. I am sure you gotta figure out how to really let the car carry momentum and get on the gas really early.

Maybe they should allow the crates a weight break.

I don't think I will be there this Saturday, because we will be at ORP with the late model. But I am hoping to make it out on the following Saturday to Dixie with the Sportsman.

I was dreaming about running this Friday but due to work Saturday is out of the question. My next chance to run Dixie is May 17th and the 24th. We're a man short and it won't be filled till the end of June. It will take another month of training after that before I have a "normal" schedule. Im putting the rub rail back on it after pancaking the wall last year in the Eve of Destruction. We need to stop taking that name so seriously lol.

Your car has all the corner speed of just about anyone in the class. What's the max RPM's you can turn that motor? I'm guessing 6500. I'd try the 5.57 gear. That is the least gear of all the "fast" cars. I had the 5.42 last year on the first night and was killing guys in the corners and watched them pull me 2 lenghts down every straitaway.

does the carburator work well or does if hesitate? we alll know we have to be smooth on the gas off the corners
racer72
5.67 might still be the answer.
kermit2
the motor is rated at 5500rpm-6000max.
i'm working on my cornering this week, if i show improvement and still stay at the back, i will see about the weight issue.
I feel i can make it work, its just going to take laps.

If Crates are down on power that much then they should let the Short Track Trucks run with us at 3000lbs.
KCR87
I would swing for that!

The problem and difference with a STT is, we're allowed MSD and tubular upper control arms, otherwise I WOULD run my truck as a Sportsman.

I vote yes to that! biggrin.gif
