Does that sound like a bribe? Its not supposed to really! I was planning on racing at Spartan last Friday when I discovered that rule. I always thought the tire rule was the same at spartan/spingport as it was at ac/dixie. But I guess I should take back my offer cuz it does sound like Im bribing so never mind. Ill edit my post.
stinkfist
Hey Wood think about it, wedgie.gif Im not going to give money to a race in the name of my sponsors and then not be able to race in it!
stinkfist
I dont know why I would let a cynical comment change my mind, but I thought about it and If my car is legal to race at Racin and Rockin' I will add 60 dollars to the purse. LJ Somier also said he will add to that total (I dont know how much.). Im sorry, but I am not going to add to the purse if I cant race. Thats just stupid. I can give the same money to another local struggling track that would like to have a purse for their biggest event of the year that will attract cars from around Mid-Michigan. If there is anything not right about this I guess Springport can refuse the money. I would like to know as soon as possible if you can, what you guys will do for rules Matt. I would like the totals to reflect as follows. Im sure this will be worked out anyway as Spingport will want to draw cars from AC/Dixie.

I apologize to my sponsors for being involved in this thread!

i'm a spartan/sms pure and i say let y'all come on down and race. i enjoyed running with y'all at spartan. chad why don't you go over to the spartan forum and post it in the teching forum maybe chuck will take a look at that tire rule or they'll make R&R an invite. good luck

I would also visit Springport/Spartan on other nights if you guys come up with something to make our 60 series a legal tire. It shouldnt be an issue since we run a 7" wheel, but I just want to be sure. I can see the rule being nothing below a 60 series as this prevents drivers from buying a 200 dollar tire, but you cant find a super expensive high performance tire in a sixty series, just in the 50 series range, and below. We almost all run Goodyear Regattas from 60-70 series to get staggar.

A person could just put 70 series Regattas on all 4 corners if you have them already ?

But like Chad said before, you guys are running 8 inch rims, we are only allowed 7. Plus we don't evan run a 60 series tire. The lowest that me and Chad have on our cars right now is a 65 series. I think we could have a good turn out if we could get away with running the 65 series tire. I think I could get atleast 5-6 cars to come over.

Not unless you buy new ones. They are run in on the right side. After they are broken in they have to stay on that side. Im not going to buy 200 bucks worth of tires I will run only once or twice.

I don't think it would hurt them to be run once or twice on the left side.. but I don't know a lot about the RWD cars.. I was just presenting a thought.

The tires wear camberd if you look even on your fwd car the tires will wear uneven. The car would not be competetive with right side tires on the left. If we are going to race there on an inch smaller wheel I dont see an issue with running a 65 series tire. The spirit of the rule is intended to keep drivers from buying a 300 dollar Perelli or something exotic. Well you cant get an exotic tire in a sixtey series, so really there shouldnt be an issue. Our cars are pretty choked down compared to Spartan/Springport rules. The only reason our cars had so much success last year is that it was the 1st year of the class. That gap will quickly close if it hasnt already.

Chad,
Do they have to be new tires? Maybe I could work something out to buy your donation to the pure stock purse, and put it in the name of my sponsor. What sizes?

Why is it when you click on the Springport Speedway link at the top of the pavement tracks forum it says R n R IV is July 19th??? confused.gif

Are these the correct classes?????

This should be corrected so that racers and fans wishing to plan their schedule can do it accurately. Would hate to lose people because of this.

Not trying to stirthepot.gif but if R n R IV wants lots of fans and drivers, the correct info needs to be on the website.

Dynochick & Matt,

I'm not finding the link to the incorrect information you are referring to.... Am I just blind?

schinde
Jim,

I found what she was referring to, it was at the pinned posts at the top of this forum section. It was confusing, as it had last years Springport schedule there, with 2008 showing on the screen.

Scottyd took care of it for us when I let him know about it.

problem solved.

Thanks for checking Jim,

No Gavin our tires (Regatta 2's) are pretty much junk until they are close to bald, but you need a tire thats been broken in on a race car or shaved. There are at least three more likely six of us that want to come to R&R. We want to do the whole weekend thing. I guess I just love these kind of events every since the Owosso nationals. This is also about more than just this race too. I would like to run Spartan this year as well. I just think that any advantage you gain in a 60 or 65 series tire is negated by having a heavy stock 7 inch wheel when they are all running light weight 8 inch racing inch wheels. I posted to the Spartan board to see if it is possible for them to let us run with our current set ups. Its just not worth it to drive that far for as little as we make in our class and have to figure out a new set up, and come up with tires. A little common sense will tell you we dont have any significant advantage in fact if anything the Spartan/Springport cars have more liberal rules. I hope that this can be resolved. I really want to race as many tracks as I can this summer. (if I can get this car repaired somewhere close to normal. Its pretty bent.) I dont want it to come off like Im saying change your rules and LJ and I will give you money, rather than I would like to help this event if our cars can race in it. Lonnie Somier (not sure on the spelling.) has like 4-5 lead sleds that he stores and helps get to the track. There is no way there going to put new left sides on all those cars. I dont know if any decision makers post here, but I hope they do and will give us some consideration.

What are the tires (name/brand/size) and how much do they cost? I'm not talking about 6 lead sleds, I'm talking about yours.

This is how this works, you present a problem, then I present a solution. If it's reasonable then it's your turn to put up or shut up.

The Problem:
Spartan's tires are different from yours, you can't afford the tires to race at least 1 race with them.

The Solution:
I'll buy the tires and lend them to you for RnRIV, then I get them back and I sell them. If they don't sell, then maybe I'll rent them to you to run at Spartan again someday. In return, you put a $60 donation into the race however you see fit (other than something to the effect of "Chad Decker gets $60 wherever he finishes") in the name of Kan Rock Tire Co and Bryant's Engine Rebuilding.

The rub I have is that if I understand this you want to take your otherwise uncompetitive car (against the spartan cars, as you said) and put the competitive tires on it to try to win, I can't fault a racer for wanting the best they can get. However, if you want to race there more than once, I don't see why you won't need the tires anymore. I also don't see why you need to have the newest baddest tires to race in a weekend long race when the atmosphere is the real prize (as you said). I'd prefer to just find you some decent (low treadwear, stiff sidewall, or whatever) used tires that you can shave and run the race with, but I'm willing to sacrifice to make this work out.

Just a general question too, because I dunno about racing these street car tires. If a new set of left sides is the same size as your right sides, why can't you flip them on the rim and run them on the right side later?
HRT187
Oh... by the way, if you still don't show up, you owe me for the tires.
stinkfist
Gavin,
We race or practice all season, and take time to put a decent set up on our cars, if we have to abandon our set up everything becomes an unknown we might be out to lunch. These cars are not adjustable, if your set up is junk your stuck with it. Unless you have a whole cash of springs to change at the track. We use the tires we have to get our staggar. I have no idea what 70 series tire I would need to get it right. Besides that I want to race with and hang out with the guys that help me all week, and race with me. Im not going to a track where I know no one and have no one there to help me out. Get it? I am not asking for anything that is out to lunch here. I didnt say my car was otherwise uncompetetive either. I dont know if that is the case or not, but there are multiple reasons why I would like this to be considered. I dont know why you see it as a rub. You know what Just forget it. You come on here and act like I'm doing something wrong here and its pissing me off. Im offering to help if there is anyway that our cars will be legal. Apparently that is not good enough for you, so screw it, I and quite a few other cars will not race there. Apparently they dont need or want us. If you are representing them.
HRT187
uhhh... I was honestly trying to put together a deal to help you out. I dunno why that's so offensive.

Good luck.
stinkfist
Yeah you were really being a nice guy! Your post was rude Gavin that is why Im being so offensive. So I will shut up since I did not put up! Of course this is not the first time on this thread you have been rude. I know you understand what I am asking for and I know you understand why I'm asking for it. The sixty buck sponsorship is not an issue. Its getting more cars to come and race. What I am reading is that you are rubbed the wrong way by me saying I will give sixty bucks to the track if our cars can race. I guess I can vaguely see why that might bug you, but my intent was really to help out a race that I want to race at. There is zero ulterior motive there. I just want our cars to have a chance to race for that money if I give it.
HRT187
Doesn't bug me at all dude, wasn't trying to be rude, just trying to help get another donation for the race and another car there. Friendly jabs aside, I think you're reading way too much into it.

I honestly hope things work out and you guys can come race. If my help isn't needed, I'll step aside.
stinkfist
If that is the case I apologize. Im reading way too much into it. I really do aplogize. I must be mis-reading that post, or at least misunderstanding it. I really hope we are able to race there too. I feel bad for overreacting here. It just seemed like you were jabbing not so friendly. If your intent was not negative Im an ass.
HRT187
fuggedaboutit.... just get your car there. icon_mrgreen.gif

I luckily had the chance to race at R&R while it was still an invitational. I had a complete ball at a track that I didnt normally compete at. I loved the fact that there was a mid-season track that had a hell of a track, drivers, and fans that I was lucky enough to compete at mid-season.

I know I don't have a car in any of these divisions, but I've always thought R&R would be a HUGE race if it were intended as a "invite" not for regular points night.

I do however understand "catering" to your weekly drivers, and thats fine but IMO it should be an invitational like it was when I had the oppourtunity to race there.
stinkfist
It would certainly be a bigger event if they did it that way. I guess if you think about it, outside of a car from another track being in a crash with a local guy or somthing like that, the points should stay the same. The order of the finish will be the order of the points. I guess it might create gaps in the points given, but it shouldnt change a ton. You might draw ten or so extra cars in each division if your lucky.
HRT187
Those decisions are all up to the track management. I'm not sure if this is a points event or not for the regular classes.

I think the key is not to open the rules up to allow the best of both (together on the same car) and make people change their cars over for 1 race. I see what Chad is saying about the exhaust and wheel rules, but I don't know how to prove that the playing field is level without testing an AC-ruled car against a Spartan-ruled car. The other issue being that an AC car is going to have years of setup experience on its side. I wouldnt want to make the decision.

As Matt mentioned before, they are still looking for people to champion the special events and bonuses for the other classes. I'm not sure if that would be the right person to help you in the cause to open the rules to AC cars or not.

I agree with the idea that the race is more special when you can draw so many more cars. 2 years ago there were mods from a lot of different tracks, even drivers brought out of retirement, and it was a ton of fun. I'd love to see that expand and draw cars from everywhere for every division. Making it fair has got to be tough, glad its not my job.

(I really just want the chance to drag Chad through the mud when the mod drivers win the tug-o-war) ohsnap.gif

A while back, I asked Schinde in a PM, if these were points races and he said he didn't think so but would check into it.

The accessories that I ordered for the trophies arrived today....so let the trophy assembling begin. Hopefully we will have photos to post soon of Big Ed whimpering as he loads the trophies into his trunk. He may look all manly in his Hawaiian shirts and all, but make him lift something that a little heavy and it's cry1.gif time.

78 days until Racin' n Rockin' IV

Be there or be square.

Chad, dude, mellow brother, take a breath. I will guarantee you Gavin means no ill will. His family wants nothing but success for this event. Matt and I both will look into your ideas, and post the results as soon as possible. One thing you should already know, is that the staff and management of Spartan & Springport will do all they can to have a level playing field for everyone, and will make sure all participants, whether your a regular competitor or not, will feel welcomed, and respected, and WILL HAVE A GOOD TIME!!!! Be patient with us bro if you can, I promise you will get an answer, and I hope it fits into what your thinking. Cause we'd LOVE to have you and all your AC friends. Even your DC ones too!!!

That was actually the 2008 schedule that I was putting together before it was learned that I would not be leasing the track this year. I was going to run R&R IV on July 19th just like that particular schedule stated. So, that WAS the correct schedule for a short period of time. Now it's not.

Regarding the Pure stocks and the tire issue:

I have been in contact with Jim on this issue, we are discussing it and will have an answer to this soon, in time for everyone to prepare and make the necessary decisions required to determine if you can effectively run Racin' and Rockin' IV.

Rest assued a decision will be coming soon, one that can be consdiered fair and equitable to all involved here.

One important thing to note, THIS WILL NOT BE A POINTS NIGHT FOR ANY OF THE REGULAR CLASSES AT SPRINGPORT.

HOWEVER, SHOW POINITS WILL BE AWARDED TO ALL REGULAR COMPETITORS AT SPRINGPORT FOR THEIR CLASS.

More info to come,

As we are getting closer and closer, I'm going to not even think about the track sale and those other things that some might be concerned about, I've been assured that this event is going to be on, and on it is.

So, here is the first of a lot of posts to come from my end.

Russ and Vai DeBeaumont, a lot of Spartan regulars know these two, in fact a lot of racers period, know these two. They currently are the gate keepers at Spartan and do many other things, and can be found at Springport also.

Russ and Vai have advised me that they want to be a part of R&R IV this year, and therefore, Vai will be raffling off one of her handmade, yes purely and wholly handmade, quilts that she makes. They are top notch and gorgeous, and take a lot of time to make.

So, here is the deal, you can get the raffle tickets from Russ and Vai at the pit/grandstand gate Friday nights at Spartan, and wherever you run across them at Springport for the absolutely great deal of:

One ticket for one dollar.

Seven (7) tickets for five ($5.00) dollars.

Yes, seven for five bucks

What a deal, what a bargain. Here is your chance to own one of Vai's handmade quilts, for a whole lot less than buying one at a store, and one with a lot of love built into each stitch. This is a unique offer, anyone who has seen one of her quilts knows what I am saying here.

I want to thank, sincerely thank, Russ and Vai DeBeaumont for this grand offer, and for giving all of us a chance to win something as special as one of her handmade quilts. And I would ask that everyone thank them also for helping us out in this manner to again help make Racin' and Rockin' IV one more time, the "Favorite Racing Moment Of The Summer"!

More things to come on R&R IV. The pig is ordered, people are coming up all the way from Alabama to help put this event on, and I am getting stoked. The Dawg's have a new drummer who is truly excited about this also, as the rest of them are.

Oh yeah, oh yeah, let's get it on!

have a good day,

schinde

Our head Tech at Springport, Chuck "Conehead" Ewing has assured everyone that R & R IV is indeed an invitational. As a matter of fact, here's his post from the Spartan discussion board.

"Hey Guys; Sorry about taking so long , my job been keeping me real busy. In answer to Racin-Rockin, this race is a invite so your cars can run using your track rules on TIRES and WEIGHTS all other rules must be similier to our rules . For all invites also at Sparton on Sundays.

Thanks: Techdude ( 517) 812-1853"

So there you go, and if you have any further questions, his phone number is right there.

Thats great to hear. I will put this race on our schedule, and will also plan on adding some sposorship to the event for my sponsors. JD's Affordable Auto $20, Lonnies M-15 Towing $20, and Race talk and StreamNet radio $20. Let me know who to get that money to, and what the options of laps or purse are Ed. You can get that money to myself, or to the Hippie.

And Chad, it is whatever you want to do with it. You can "pick" your award and how you want it awarded. Per class. Per position. All "contingency" awards, such as this, are NOT paid out at the payout window. All of these "extra incentive" awards are given out during the "Rockin" portion of our event, after the Dawgs take their first break!!!

If you don't quite understand Chad what I mean, I'll explain it to you better when I see you, either tonight, or this weekend!!!! A for instance for you is every year, Linda and I put up 20 bucks per division for the last car finishing on the lead lap. We will do the same this year also. Anyone can put up some money for however they want it paid out.

Your gonna have a blast dude!!!!

Thanks Chuck "Techdude".

Question answered, problem solved.

Chad, look for a post shorlty about contingency prizes, etc., that will be set up for R&R IV, in essence, you could chose one that is already in place, or create your own, as Big Ed said.

It gets hectic the day of the event, but for any and everyone, contingency prizes and money can all be delivered the day of the event to either myself at the official R&R trailer set up in the pits behind the stage, as it always has been (my race trailer) my daughter or wife, or to Big Ed in the tower, who communicates directly with me during that day so we can keep things straight between us regarding these prizes.

One thing to remember, you must be present at the award's part of the rockin' evening to get it, yeah, I know, it seems like blackmail to get you to listen to the Dawg's, but biggest problem is that without a winner being there, it sometimes get difficult to near impossible to get them their contingency prize without tons of scrambling after the night is over.

So, if you are racin', you need to be rockin' too, because you never know until Big Ed and I are done, if your name is going to be called to come to the stage and take something home.

I would like to add $100.00 to the pony purse for the driver leading at the half way point. If the race is an odd number of laps then Schinde can determine the half way lap. C'mon everyone, let's keep this momentum rollin'!

As I said in another post on another forum,

Racin' and Rockin' will be the show that we, and I mean WE, want it to be.

I know, I'm begging here.

I need the help with contingencies for all classes, and to help cover some of the costs.

And don't forget that Tug Of War purse enhancement.

The first batch of flyers will be at Spartan tomorrow night.

Feel free to take them, and copy them and freely distribute them.

Finally, I am starting to feel like I have a purpose in life again.

I never, never thought that the original discussion between me and Big Ed, and then the Governor, would turn into this. All from Big Ed listening to me whine four years ago about not being able to race on Saturday's at Springport Motor Speedway because of my commitment to the Basement Dawgs.

Let's get it on!

have a good day,

schinde

This bonus will be void if the racer posts anything negative about R and R , this also determined by Schinde. Thanks and let's go racing pony drivers!

THAT is... AWESOME!

Yeah thats where I want it! You know if I won Id have no idea where to spend it! You know what maybe I should just give it to you, and you could unselfishly give to the Lead sled purse. Huh?

That's definately what I would do with it. wink.gif

Joking Aside...It's really cool of you to support the event that way.

Mike
