Does anyone know what master cylinder to use to convert a 73 - 77 Monte to manual? My friend says he saw a master that bolts on with the same 4 studs as the power booster. He went to Murrys and Auto Zone and they could not find one.

I have brand new not rebuilt corvette style dual cylinder reservoirs 1 inch piston 2 bolt hole (all gm manual style will have) for $49.40 shipped to your door. You can find other applications that came with manual brakes, the problem is that any derelict can put any core back in the box and then you just are not sure what you are getting. These are new and the right piston bore diameter for most passenger car brake applications.

Whatever you use, make sure you only use a dual reservoir master. The old single style will have you in deep trouble if you break a brake line or similar problem.

Make sure you have at least 1/16 inch free play on the push rod going from the brake pedal to the MC...IF you do not have some slop,,,Your MC pistons will not come back far enough to releive the pressure and your Brakes will Not release and WILL lock up.

this happens ALL the time.

We have also used the stock power MC. and just adpate-late it to the firewall.

Power MC's have a bigger piston (1 1/16 or 1 1/8 inch) than a manual MC, which is 7/8" or 1 inch dia.

the bigger the piston,,, the more effort will be to push the pedal.

If you are a typical guy, the power MC will be OK and not too hard for you to push. if it is for a kid or 100 lb woman, you may need to go with the smaller bore MC, so the pedal effort is less.

PS. you need a MC that is for discs up front and drums in the rear.

ALSO<<< this is a OLD fart trick.

If you have a locked rear axel, ONLY USE one rear brake. plug the brake line going to the RR. and remove the RR shoes.

this way you willnot spin out when hitting the brakes in the turn when avoiding a wreck.

race cars want about 66 % of the brakeing done by the front,
