Question for all,
98 Mercury Mystique, will go into reverse and back up with no problems, but when put into drive, or lower gears, can hear and feel it engage, but will not move forward at all. Good fluid and up to level.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like the clutch packs in the forward gears are wore out or the electric solinoid is messed up. Just a guess these newer cars are a pain to figure out.

it could be a transmission range switch. it is a little black box ontop of that trans that informs the the PCM where you put the gear lever and to engage what valves in the valve body. i had one that was shorting out intermittently and would put the car in to reverse at 50 mph! what yours could be doing is just not sending signal back to the PCM. to make sure that is it you need a scan tool to see if the TR switch matches where you put the shifter. A GOOD SCAN TOOL not autozone..

Thanks for the tips, I'll get started at that point. I was wondering if it might be an electrical issue as opposed to mehcanical, and it sounds like it may be.
I'll check this stuff out, thanks again.
