Dale JR is my favorite, and I want him to win it all but I dont think the team is good enough. The 88 is really fast and running very well at every single track this year but they just can not close the show. It drives me nuts how fast they are the whole race, then fade on the last run. I am starting to wonder if maybe the crew chief is dropping the ball a little bit. I like Tony JR but how many races have they won together because of a genius call of pit strategy? They have led a lot of laps this year and should have won easily three races by now, but they always fade a little at the end of the race, every race. That will NOT win the championship come those last ten races in the chase. I wish I had the answer for them, but fading at the end of the race seems to be my weakness the last couple of years also. lol

Realistically, you could ask the same question about 75% of the drivers out there. I know, their not all driving for Hendricks, but they are all out there trying to do the same thing...........WIN.
I'm not a huge Jr. fan, but I have a lot of respect for him. I love his kicked back style, and how he is humble and respectful of the sport, it's roots, and it's future. I do get tired of seeing him on every othher commercial, but if the offers are there, why wouldn't you do it? Every single one of us would!!!
I think all you Jr. fans need to be patient. It takes time to get acclamated to a new team, people, and surroundings. It can't be easy. He has ran better through these first few races than I thought he would, and a hell of a lot better than he has the last couple years, and it's apparent to me that a victory isn't too far away.
Even though Kyle Busch's success doesn't help my point here, I still believe it to be true.
Anyways, the big picture is staying in the top 12, I think he will make the Chase, THAT'S when you really want him to win anyways, right?

Wins are nice, but consistancey wins championships. Talladega doesn't count, that it straight up speed, side by side for 180 laps anything goes. 50 percent of you thinks you will win, 50 percent thinks your goign to wreck. He did fade back, but I know he was going to make his way back up with 3-5 laps left. Still got a top ten finish though.

Very well put BigEd.
Those were my thoughts on Jr for his first year at Hendrick also. I was concerned that his fans would have too high of expectations and that is just not fair to Jr, his crew chief, his crew.
He is having a great year so far, better than I expected for starting over with a whole new team. Much better.
He is doing his job and doing it very well.
Go Jr!

Come on back next year and ask that same question.
He has to get another year under his belt with his new team and owner.

I just think that you are now seeing the true JR.. The one that hid in his daddy's company to many years, and this is the best he will ever be.. Can't race at daddy's level and shouldn't even try to live up to his name,, just ain't going to happen.

thats the problem< you want to compair him to his father. there is never gonna be anyone as good as dale earnhardt. do you see a 3 on his door? you cannot compair. nascar is totally different now than it was when sr. ruled. yeah same old junior, running top 10 all the time, last time i checked thats pretty good. if dale sr. was still alive, jr. would still be at DEI, and would be running like he is now in BETTER equipment.

See in my opinion, the JR nation is the ones that put that extra pressure on him.................get a clue, HE's not A GOD and can't win every single race. The JR nation thinks that he's the epitome of a racecar driver, no other shall be as good as JR! Hail the crown prince!
They also can't stand the fact that he's not even half as good as Jeff Gordon!

I just had to put that in there

Here I pose a question........would the JR nation rather see him win a championship or win every race? I'd rather my driver be consitant week in and week out, be in contention for the win, finish top 5 or 10 if they can't win and at least have a top 5 starting spot in the Chase where all the marbles count then. We have 15 races to go until the Chase, that's counting tonight. It's a long stretch to be worried whether or not he'll get a win. He won't win tonight either though....sorry Gordon is gonna win tonight to break his no win streak!

The real problem is that he's driving Casey Mears's cars from last year. The 88 and 5 will never run as good as the 24 and 48. Yea the 24 and 48 didnt start off good but thats because they didnt go test the cot every week last year due to the battle for the championship but now they are starting to get their act together.

Interesting point, but are you aware that Junior is out performing the rest of the Hendrick team at this point in the season?

Yes I do but do you also realize that the 24 and 48 in most races are out running JR. they just keep coming home with poor finishes due to issues with their cars at the end.

I knew a guy who always bragged about how good he was... never won a feature and usually came in last or next to last due to some mechanical problem, involvement in an accident, ad nauseum... but he was a good driver... ask him. I'd rather be the poor sap having the bad year with no wins but still running at the end, top ten or better.
I'm not a Junior fan but I think he's a nice guy who was thrust into the spotlight and still finds it hard to talk to the media. I hope he has a decent season. There are some other drivers out there that could learn a bit of humility. It is possible to be humble and shy yet be a good driver.

I like to pick on JR but the truth is he's doing really well this year. I thought it would take longer to get him accustomed and acclimated at Hendrick Motorsports. He definitely has outperformed his teammates and he has a solid points standing at the moment. I believe that he has the best shot he ever has at a championship this year. He's gonna win races....I've said that before. If he's lucky he'll start peeking soon and get a couple before the chase starts.

It is easy to see JR is not comfortable in front of a camera, he looks down, or in another direction, has to think more about what he is going to say. (some other's should learn that trait)
On the other hand his dad was a ham in front of the camera.
I feel JR is a good driver, just not as good as his dad. There are many good drivers now day's and a whole lot better equipment than 10-15 years ago plus the level of tech is so much closer than years ago.
I think there used to be a lot of buddy deals that let some of the more popular drivers and teams get away with things that will not pass now.

The 24 and 48 were two teams that did the most testing on the COT, it is just that they went the wrong way and got behind.
Also Jr. is comfortable with his hands on the wheel, he is very uncomfortable in front of the camera. He choses his words, he doesn't want to have to explain later, or have to apologize.

I agree with that. I also just think he's a helluva lot more humble than most. All in all in these days of "polish ya til ya shine" it's still great for the sport to have a driver with a "REAL" personality! It'd be way more interesting if everyone was themselves in front of the camera like JR is.

The south wants a hero to follow JR. is the man. They dont want someone from another part of the world its their sport and its getting taken, away they want it back.
