I'm getting some conflicting information. For lead sled heads, there is a good deal on some 1.94/1.50 heads. I have one person telling me these will be fine if I'm not going much over 6500 rpm and will have better low and mid throttle response. My SBC book is telling me that if the car is regularly going over 4500 rpm, I should be using 2.02/1.50.
Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks

a 1.94/1.50 works very good and is all you need to run competitively. If it was me i would be more concerned with which particular casting heads they were rather than the 1.94/2.02 debate.

the 487 heads are decent, atleast the 487x heads are. they are a large chamber head so you wouldnt get much for compression without flattop pistons. i ran 1.94 valves in my heads in the caddy and its ran 16s, some of the older castings are prone to cracking and i didnt want to take the chance. it is worth your money to put in good valves and valve job though, theres nothing illegal about it and its probably one of the best places to make gains. keep in mind that youre limited to .410 lift so most tricks dont necessarily work on the sled motor like they would a drag motor.

how funny to re-read this post after a while. it reminds me that while in tech some time back this season, i was informed that a standard 3 angle valve job would be considered illegal because its not stock??? i wasnt aware you could get anything other than that done when having heads reconditioned, shows how retarded i really am huh?
p.s. good job dynamite, way to ruin a perfectly good set of 041's!!!

you can type in your serch engine casting numbers or you can o to NYracer.com and get all the information you want on heads. What track are you running at having super hi flow intake or heads you still have to flow it through that restricted exhaust DandL cylinder head in clio has a flow bench to help you figure out what cam to run differnt heads flow better at different rates so just because you can run .410 dosent mean your setup will work the best with it. 041 castings i have heard were the best non vortech non cammel backs you can find but I am not for sure
