Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway was a windy one but that didn’t stop a large crowd coming out to watch the evening’s events, sponsored by Lawnscape. It was a busy night with the SOD Sprints and the ever popular school bus races, this time piloted by area school bus drivers. The competition was fast and furious with buses going three and once even four wide but when it was done, the race was won byCharlie Borton from Vestaburg High School.

The opening feature was the Flinn Stock division and it immediately became a fight between Shane O’Conner and Adam Soule. With O’Conner holding the lead, Kyle Shattuck had just entered the fray for the lead when O’Conner spun and came to rest on the bank of turn two. On the restart, it was a back and forth fight between Shattuck and Soule. Coming down to the final flag, Soule was out front but Shattuck was charging hard. In a near photo finish, Soule won by a bumper in a hard fought battle. Nick Corder had moved up for third, followed by Harley Farkle, Anthony Fellows, O'Connor, Justin Stout, Kevin Kruk, Ashlee Scott, and Neil Zeigler. Kruk and Soule took heat wins.

The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz made their 100th visit to the speedway and it was Tim Norman snaking through traffic to put the historic win in the books. The rest of the top ten were JR. Stewart, Brett Mann, John Gall, Ben Rutan, Dustin Daggett, Ryan Grubaugh, Dain Naida, Gregg Dalman, and Mike Galadja. Dalman won the B Main with heat wins going to Rutan, Stewart, and Norman. Norman also pocketed the fast car dash.

The Kentucky Fried Chicken sponsored Late Model division went from a cake walk to a dog fight in the matter of a moment. Tim Stott jumped out to a huge lead and looked untouchable until he hit the wall coming down the front stretch and came to rest tight against the turn one wall. Upon restarting, Bob Finlay jumped out to the lead with Paul Tucker tight to his bumper. It took several laps but Tucker finally made the pass to take the lead. Tom Dusen moved up to the front two and was able to bother Finlay but never quite able to make the pass, allowing Tucker to motor on home to take his first feature of the year. Finlay held on for second, followed by Dusen, Jeff Kohn, Kevin Nelson, Jr., Rick Stout, Jay Van Dyke, Eric Monk, Mark Andersen, and Brock Cogswell. Justin Robinson grabbed the B Main win with heats falling to Finlay, Stott, and Stout.

Mike Husted jumped out to a commanding lead in the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Stock feature but it didn’t take long before Greg Mandoka and Todd Bush were hot on his trail. Husted held the lead as Bush and Mandoka duked it out behind him but came to a sudden hard stop over in turn one when his drive shaft decided to part company with him. Mandoka took control as Bush experienced a problem on the restart, falling back a few spots leaving Jeff Reist tight to the leader. The eight time division champ played his cards perfect and passed for the lead three laps later and went on for the win over Mandoka, Derrick Dennis, Chaney Newland, Pete Hundey, Vern Buskirk, Bush, Barry Rinard, Randy Woodbury, and Dan Willmore. Husted and Newland won heat races.

It was almost too quiet in the Port City Racing Pro Truck race. The division is sometimes as rowdy as its NASCAR role model but this race was all Chris Verhaar. He jumped out front early and was never seriously challenged. Tim Wood and Rodney Heikkila had a steady fight for position behind him but none of it bothered the leader. Verhaar cruised onward for his third feature win followed by Heikkila, Wood David Dancer, Aaron Raby, Gary Dancer, Jamie McCormick, Tim Hansen, and Kevin Deal. Heikkila pocketed the heat win.

The final feature of the night was the Engine Pro IMCA Modifieds and there were times you could have covered the front four with a blanket. Dan Wiggins II and Nate Jones took off from the green and were pulling away from JR Schmidt when Schmidt’s car suddenly spun in front of the rest of the field, stacking everyone up and relegating several cars to an early pit stop. When action resumed, Jones was able to briefly take the lead from Wiggins but spun a lap later, once again stacking up the field. Wiggins took the next green and held on for all he was worth, finally taking the checker over a hard charging Roger Flinn III, Brody Bowser, Dan Minikey Jr. Kevin Rohn, Mickey Carman, Jr., Rusty Zeigler, Mike Vandermark, Jr., Gary VanderMark, and Clifford Denman. Zeigler and Dennis Walker took B Mains and Jones, Bowser, Rohn, and Robert Putt claimed heat gold.
