O’Reilly USA Modifieds Rumble at AMS
Angola Motor Speedway
June 7, 2008
(Fremont, Indiana)
By Brandon Depew

Great weather brought great racing to the Angola Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Over 30 O’Reilly USA Modifieds qualified but only 24 starting spots were available for the first ever running of the FAYGO 100. Local favorite Bud Perry started on the pole of the 100 lap event and led until lap 40 when Brian Nester slipped by in lap traffic. The cars had a quick ten minute intermission at lap 50 and then right back at it for the final 50 laps. Bud Perry had a tough break with a flat tire at the intermission giving Steve Minich Jr the second spot when the race went back green. Minich ran down Nester and took over the lead on lap 75. Minich never looked back and took home the checkers in the FAYGO 100. Scott Coe came from the back of the field to finish an impressive second, Tony Dager was third, Tim Burkett fourth, and Bud Perry rounded out the top 5. Heat wins went to Perry and Minich.

The Jonny on the Spot Street Stocks 20 lap feature was next up as Tommy Little grabbed the lead early and had fast Qualifier Robby Henderson chasing him the entire race. Little held on and pulled in to Tri State Line-X Victory Lane for his second feature win of the season. Henderson came home second as Jacob Mann, Brent Dirrim, and Andrew Kindig rounded out the top 5. Henderson was the heat winner.

Getting ready for next weeks huge event, The Stan Perry Memorial, a great field of cars took to the track for the 35 lap Budweiser Super Late Model feature. Rick Sexton started up front and looked impressive early but Greg Parr closed in and made the pass on lap 6. Parr quickly had Jack Landis all over his back bumper and the two would stay nose to tail all race. Landis got to the inside several times but Parr held him off time after time and took home his first feature win of the season. Landis finished 2nd, Jeff Parr 3rd, Bobby Stremme 4th, and Brent Jack 5th. Sexton and Bud Perry were heat winners.

The Smith Enterprises Mini Stocks were up next for the final event of the night. Justin Dubois took the lead early and led until lap 4 when Clif Bennett made the pass for the lead. Bennett, who has ran better and better ever week, held off a closing Logan Parker for his first ever feature win. Kedrin Holliday, Jimmy Musser, and Matt Morton also picked up top 5 finishes. Morton and Musser won their heats.
Next Saturday night don’t miss one of the biggest events of the season a Super Late Model “ALLSTAR” weekend featuring the Stan Perry Memorial presented by Parrish Homes and Jim Schmidt Family of Dealerships. The Super Late models will run 50 laps $2010 to win plus Lap leader money and a whole lot of special awards! Also scheduled are the Superior Auto Modifieds, Jonny on the Spot Street Stocks and the Smith Enterprises Mini Stocks. Practice at 4:00, Time Trials at 6:00, and racing at 7:30. Don’t forget about the famous AMS Dollar Menu including $1 FAYGO sodas! For More Info Log Onto http://www.angolamotorspeedway.com.
