Fans Pack the Stands on Stan Perry Memorial Night
Angola Motor Speedway
June 14, 2008
(Fremont, Indiana)
The inaugural Stan Perry Memorial presented by Parrish Homes and the Jim Schmidt Family of Dealerships was the biggest event of the year at the Angola Motor Speedway. The stands were packed as 27 of the best Super Late Model drivers in the area tried to put themselves in to the 20 car field.
It was an all Parr Motorsports front row when the green flag dropped for the 50 lap event in honor of the late Stan Perry. Rick Everage jumped out to the early lead but Jack Landis and Brian Nester were closing quickly. Landis made the pass for the lead on lap 8 and Nester grabbed the second spot. After a late caution Nester had one final chance and nearly got underneath Landis coming to the checkers but it wasn’t enough as Jack Landis won the Stan Perry Memorial, with Brian Nester 2nd, Phil Bozell 3rd, Brent Jack 4th, and JR Roahrig 5th. Mike Kugler was the TICO Engines Fast Dash winner, Harry Foote Jr and Bud Perry won the HOWE Racing Enterprises Australian Pursuits.
The Jonny on the Spot Street Stocks feature race saw Don Vitali take the early lead as Robby Henderson grabbed the second spot and began to run him down. Henderson took the lead on lap 8 and held off Tommy Little to win his second feature of the season. Justin Oberlin had a nice third place finish, as Brandon Pulver and Don Vitali rounded out the top 5. Brent Dirrim and Tommy Little had heat wins.
Aaron Timmerman and Erik Shaeffer were side by side for the first five laps of the Superior Auto Modified feature, but Bud Perry was on a mission to win. Perry had a flawless race and took home a very emotional win as he brought his car in to Tri State Line-X victory lane on the night honoring his father. Last weeks feature winner Steve Minich Jr finished second, Jason Timmerman third, fast qualifier Brad Springer fourth, and Erik Shaeffer fifth. Dave Nester and son Josh Nester were heat winners.
After battling mechanical problems two weekends in a row Jerry Sloan finally got his car back in top shape and took home another feature win in the Smith Enterprises Mini Stocks feature. Logan Parker finished a close second for the second straight week, with Clif Bennett, Kedrin Holliday, and Justin DuBois rounding out the top 5.
