The fact of the matter is most of the motors, and racecars in the L/S class are illegal according the rules, but if you concider the fact that they obviously dont inforce them where do you draw the line? 175psi cranking compression with a compression tester? i certainly hope this isnt how they are checking them at the track, camshaft overlap can be adjusted in the grind to make a 13:1 motor crank 175 psi or a 8.5:1 motor the same too it really means nothing.. The last thing i want to do is create hostility towards me, because i am neutral in the situation, and am not taking any sides in the matter. In fact i do think everyone has a valid point, but I do think the rules are now too far gone unless some major changes come around. Unless the track cares to take the matters into their hands All we ever acomplish is getting ourselves worked up over something that is not going to change Isn't that right Nick ?

The sad part of it all is that the racers that are not as fast as the fast guys now believe it is all motor, and think that they will never compete without a big motor because everyone in the pits have been passing around info about these so called "HIGH DOLLAR" 406's. And have the racers discouraged, the class is now approaching factory stock dollar amounts for led sleds engines.

Good post Greg. We all know that a car that turns is going to be faster than one that doesnt, but we also know you need some smoke. One of the competitors in the lead sled division got a new motor, and went from a 10th place car to a top 5 consistent car. It does mean something. My car is dead by the time I hit the flag stand. Maybe its a gear thing maybe not, but motor helps. You will never hear a talented driver say he's got enough motor.

What are we running? Weedwackers! thats a pretty small exaust. To tell you the truth i dont think i 406 has that big of an advantage over a 355. Last year with my 355 i ran a 16.72. This year with a 400 a ran a 16.69. Not much of a differance to me.

Lonnie if it isn't motor, lets swap for one week. Ill take my personal time to remove and install in both cars. Not change anything else but motors. They got same gear, tranny, and handle pretty damn close. Well maybe this won't work, if it was in my car because of my last name I'd be DQ'd. nunu.gif wtf.gif

Q-jets May not be complicated for us guys, but for most lower divison racers, they are.

Your handle is carb man,,,So I am guessing you know lots about this hydrualic fuel ccomputor ( Q-Jet),,,

I gave away may last stash of high Perforance 1966 to 1969 Q-jet metering rods, hangers, jets, secondary vacuum pots, etc,,,,

Carb man, If I want to help out some roookie with his q-jet,,where do I buy those parts?

Also, have any of you set up your carb and ignition timing on a Chassis dyno?

What kind of HP # do you get on the chassis dyno?

I was always under the impression that the 1966 to 1969 Q-jets where not the better of the years, maybe Carbman can clue us in for sure.....

Not sure on the sleds what hp is cause they have'nt been on dyno but the street stock was 423 at the flywheel with a 4412 holley. As far as parts for Q-jet we have a huge selection of them and I just play with metering rods and power valve, Biggest improvement I've seen is secondary air flap. Most people do the opposite of what they should do.Well ok maybe a little primary work too.

I know a shop that has a barrel full of carbs. Don't know why they save them.

First off I just checked the compression on an 8.5 to 1 motor that pumped 192psi. There goes that theory.
How is that engine making so much more power? it isn't through a 2" exhaust. No way. 300HP if you’re lucky,

I built that engine, i know whats in it, you don't. You think you do. Pay real close attention, that car gets off the corner. Seems kinda hard to do with 600 HP. Listen to the people that watched last Saturdays race. The only difference between mine and LJ's car was the driver. It was a good show. I finished about 1.5 cars behind him. Pretty close racing i thought. He was able to pick up the throttle about 1 second before me on most of the corners, i know, i was there. How about i put him in my car and we'll see if the outcome is any different.
Try chilling and have some fun! Your car is very competative. I don't see a problem. Why is it you think you should be able to come out with a brand new car and domanate. How many years of tweaking does LJ's car have on it????

Joe, since you built that motor, what DOES it have in it??? I believe I have seen the inside of it too. To be honest, since no one else will, it looks like a street stock motor. frech.gif This topic will never be let go until something is done about it. Do you like going every week and racing for 2nd Joe, how about every other driver out there, do they wanna go finish 2nd. To be able to win you pretty much have to have a FS motor. Chad, did you get her barked off yet????? i took your yolk and the bail clamp for the gov. cover up to the towing. Did you get them??? I wuld like to get that clamp on there before this weekend. The cover is glued on but it never hurts to be safe. Yours was all bent up, had to dig around to find one. Thats why it wasn't on there when you picked it up. I forgot to mention it. blowin things up in about an hour... Chad I lit off 15 one inch mortars last night and blew up everything from a tide container, bees nests, all the way to a portable toilet out of camper. We got all the goodies out here. My car needs some bumpin to straighten out some body panels. It's weird, Joe just came through the parking lot and hit my damn car, again, WHILE IT WAS STOPPED.
