Greetings!
Well the time for this event is right around the corner. It is 11 days from today. It seems like yesterday John Belott called to tell me about this event / tribute. I know there has been tons of hard work, planning, and coordinating behind the scenes to put this event together by some very special people and I can’t personally thank them enough. It means a lot to me and our family.
As posted by John’s sister Kathy, the purse for this event is going to be second to none. With a purse this good I am sure the competition will fierce and competitive as well. Remember First place will pay the winner $2077.00 plus a DART engine, oil pan to intake complete! And the purse will pay throughout the field along with tons of special prizes as well. All to be announced soon.
It seems like yesterday my dad started building and racing these cars. One night on dirt and the next night on asphalt. Traveling down the road in the “Silver Bullet” as we called the hauler. Dusty, dad and myself, those were fun times. As most of you know he was so passionate about racing but more so about the modifieds. There were many times he would call me up and want me to chime in on some of the technical topics about the future of these cars on MSTRC. From crate motors to fabricated front clips. But at the end of the day he really enjoyed watching his cars go around the track and was always willing to help anyone out with their car. As some of you know he wasn’t the most patient person in the world. He said I could of played basketball for Bobby Knight because of the way I handled his attitude and I am sure dad and Bobby are a lot alike. I am really glad that I had the chance to drive for him. I am looking forward to reconnecting with some of his old friends and some of the racers. Just think some of the competitors in this field were just little kids when the modifieds started in Michigan and now they are really competitive in this class and helping take this division to the next level. I would like to find out who you know or who is going to be competing in this event. If you know please post. I am curious as to how many cars will be competing. In closing I will see you in 11 days. Take care and God Bless

You can count on us being there, even though it is such a long haul for us...lol. Its also funny bringing up the silver bullet....I can remember when me and your brother would ride in the backseat to I 96 or Crystal every weekend. Man where did all the time go. Well look forward to seeing you this week... Should be a great tribute to Sam.

Unfortunately, we won't be making it. I'd like nothing more than to support this race, but it's a risk we just cannot afford to take. Having never run the track, and considering the expenses involved, it just had to be crossed off the list of "wants" for this season.
I may be there as a spectator or a helper for another team.

The USA Mod site said that about 5-10 cars from Kalamazoo would be making the trip.

I'm a little shocked at that number, I was expecting it to be more like 40-50. Although, there are some who wont pre-register I'm sure, anyways, I'll be there!!!

From what I have heard there should be 4-6 of the Spartan regulars there.
Just wish I was one of them. I will not take anothers car for that race, to much at stake and I'm sure some poor judgement will be used by some.
I know that Brad Springer who is a USA regular is planning the trip if all goes well @ M40.

I am sure you will see between 40-50 cars. My best guess.
