I hear I was being bashed by a few drivers and non drivers so I figure I would state my view. I went there in honor of Brian knowing I probably would not do well since I would not be buying new tires and got some old used up tires from Wallace and I have not been there this year even once. With no practice and only qualifying for my set up and practice I knew it was an uphill battle but I came anyway.
I started last and when the leaders came up behind me I pointed to the inside and stayed outside and did not stay low and run em all over like some did and even take out a front runner like someone did. About 6 or 8 cars went under me and left me room at the flagstand on the outside, except one car who drove up into me and hopped my wheel and almost spun himself out. Then what does this one fool who could not pass a lapper clean when EVERYONE else does do? He flips me off.
As far as the the wanna be racer who was watching, get your car and lets see what you have.
I seen a lot of flopping around but not me. I was passing cars in the second race who passed me in the first race and I gave em a line when I was off so they returned the favor except one who crowded me into the wall and knocked my front end off and that was it for me. I finished with 8 caster and 1 camber and 1 inch of toe so like I said I was done after sideswiping the wall. This thing of swinging out a little to get a better angle in the corner is fine but what if someone is out there???? I guess the younger drivers think when you can't see their tire they are gone. I could have turned both of the ones who crowded me into the wall by holding my line and letting them suffer the consequences of their actions, next time I will not even attempt to move for these two.
Besides for using tires that Larry says had all of 300 laps on them and I put another 150 or so laps on them I don't think it was so bad but I didn't figure on winning anyway. Sometimes when you critize people make sure you know some facts, they seem to be lacking on most conversations here. The ones I passed in the second race should not blame thier tires unless they had 400 laps on them. I see the inside tires are still usable but the right rear is beginning to chunk up a little in the center tread.....

No Bashing here........ I applaud what you did.
I thank you for coming out and supporting the event Dick, no matter what tires you had on, or how well you did.
Brian was a great guy, and I know the Family appreciated your participation also.
Thanks Dick!!!!

Thanks Ed, I knew someone would have enough sense to see thru the bull and realize it was just a fun night. I would have liked to win all that cash but not being there at all and used rubber made it almost impossible. I can't see all those wasted bucks on new rubber for 1 night.

Thanks for supporting the race, Dick. It's always good to see you and your team at the track. Considering the age of your tires, you did well.

Dick,
Im glad you started this thread!! I don't know why someone is bashing YOU!! You are the only one that gave any consideration to the leaders. On the restart you pointed to me where you wanted me to go and then keep a close pace to the leaders and moved up in 1&2. I can't believe that some even after being lapped 2-3 times still try to race the leaders, driving in too hard and pushing up or just not moving over when signaled. Then to have a car that was 10 laps down take out the second place car, and almost myself in 3rd??? Not only costing the 2nd place purse but hundreds of $ in repairs. (Falcon tranny, Drive Shaft, Trailing arms, Shocks, ect, ect!) Then not having the decency to apologize after the race????
But anyway thanks for showing up to Brian's race and maybe some learned from your courtesy on how to drive Leaders. Some probably never will!!!

Dick I was in the stands Friday and was wondering what was going on with your car. I have watched you race for many years against my dad, and have never seen you being lapped. I thought it was extremely respectful the way you handled the leaders when they reached you. Most drivers today would have fought the leaders hard and more than likely caused an accident. Some people may not like your driving style but if they seen your actions at Spartan Friday I think you would have gained some fans.

I hope some of those drivers paid attention but we know they didn't. It is really the tracks fault for not black flagging lappers for racing the leaders. At Angola this year they have been saying "if you want to race the leaders you should have done it the first time they came by,if you try to race them we will black flag you". If tracks actually did their job and told drivers that at the drivers meeting maybe they would know for sure someone is watching.
I know I can't win em all so I respect the leaders and hope some day they will do the same. I practiced what I preached is all. I would feel real bad if I took out a possible winner of a big pay race when I wasn't capable of winning. Especially if it cost them a fortune in repairs plus the race pay lost.
I know what you are saying about slower cars driving in too hard and you can heaqr their tires skittering as they are pushing up in your lane. One car in partictular did it to almost everyone who went by even taking out some I think.
I will race side by side with all the Parishes, cept the old guy,he doesn't see well these days....hahahaha.
No crying about the tires after I had 300 laps on em when I got them and they were just fine in the second feature. So 500 laps is quite possible if you have to.
