You should be able to get a seal for it. you'll have to pull the pulley off to get to it. then I usually drill a small hole and use a sheetmetal screw to get the old one out. don't drill too deep. It's kinda tricky to do the first time.

not trying to steal your post but why would power steering want to force the wheel to the right. I mean really turn the wheel . We jacked the front off the ground and the wheels were in full right turn by the pump.
We already replaced the gear box. What happen to the box ??? (other than we took a hit in the wheel while racing)/
PFD
This may or may not be the problem. But I've seen when the lines are reversed that it could do that very thing. Not to mention the pump will get smoking hot.

the pump can't make the wheel turn one way or another. That's all done in the gearbox. Check the lines like PFD said.

My tractor did that when I hooked up the lines backwards.

I would suspect the bearing on the pump is going and thats what lead to the seal failure, is it a stock type pump?

there seem to be alot of power steering questions posted latley. the best person to talk to is jeff at turnone steering. he can answer any steering question you may have about steering. he is located in saginaw and the # is 989-759-4206. turnone is a major steering supplier for nascar teams.

All suggestion are great but it happened after we took a hit in the wheel. are you saying the lines were installed opposite to begin with? If so is either the pump and/or the gear box now bad?

It cannot be the pump. You must have knocked the torsion valve off-center. call turn one. he's the man.

There is a torsion bar in the gear box. If that bar gets bent it will cause the turning problem you are talking about.

When you turn the steering wheel you are twisting the torsion bar, which opens a valve and allows pressurized fluid from the pump to help turn the steering either left or right.

When they build racing gear boxes, they can install different sizes of torsion bars to adjust the "feel" of the steering.

OK.. it's the steering box... that's easy to fix.. thanks guys
