Full Version: The return of the V8 car

So on a whim I called my Dad today and I was talking about making my Camaro into a race car and the hoops I would be jumping through with the wheelbase issue struts etc, not whining just discussing. So when he said I could take his old limited I was a little surprised. I thought about it for about .02 seconds and I think I am gonna do it, I hope he means it. I think he knows I am serious about this stuff by now. I can slide that car by as a street stock down in Maryland because of the Camaro sub. The rules say lots of things that would make it illegal but I don't see them enforcing them on anybody. Dad had some real good runs at Dixie with that car and I think it will work real nice on dirt, it is a converted dirt late model after all with Tony Brabbs built power. Gotta get the little car sold for parts and paint money and next season the V8 car will be BACK!

Hopefully I'll even make that dream first appearance at Eldora during my leave next summer.

Is it a leaf spring car? or a 3 link?

what is the wheel base, many LLM's were 101 t0 105 inches.

does it have a stock or fabricated sheetmetal interior? what is allowed for the interior?

do you have to run stock rocker panels?

If you have to weld in a stock type interior, that can be a lot of work, and time and skill.

Also, be honest about your expenses per week, do not count on your winings, they will get eaten up by wrecks and mechanical repairs.

How much fuel will you use for race car and towing per week, How much will it cost. also do you have a good tow rig and car trailer?

fabbbed interior, the rules say stock firewall, rules which are not enforced.
The body rules say steel but they don't enforce those either.
can I afford it, yes.
I have been working toward this all my life and I am ready.
I have raced before and know what I am getting into.
Mechanical wise, I am a Navy airframer and Hydraulicsman for the last 7 years and I spent 4 years as a wrench at Schaefer and Bierlein plus another year at an indy before I joined the service. 2 years at Ferris State Auto tech not to mention years working on the old man's race cars. I have tools torches, welder etc...
The trailer goes with the car.
And I am not going for the points championship (not racing every week) .

By the way what they call Street Stock is way closer to Sportsman I was going to run the other car as a Hobby Stock. I am just planning on bringing a gun to a gun fight, nothing underhanded.

Just gotta sell the mini stock. Thanks for looking out bro.
