Press Release by Brandon DePew
Parr Takes the Checkers in the “Budweiser 75”
Angola Motor Speedway
July 20, 2008
(Fremont, Indiana)

It was another great weekend at the Angola Motor Speedway as drivers and fans came out Saturday night and on Sunday afternoon for two full days of racing. The July 19th show started off with a 20 lap make-up feature for the Jonny on the Spot Street Stocks. Jacob Mann started on the outside pole and looked like he might pick up his first career feature win. Tom Little moved through the pack and was right on Mann’s rear bumper by lap 13 and made the winning pass with just 4 laps to go. Mann would have to settle for second place ahead of Brandon Pulver, Robby Henderson, and Bob Thompson.

The Budweiser Super Late Models were next up in the “Budweiser 75” main event. It was Rick Everidge leading the field to the green and he would pace the field for the first 23 laps until he had brake problems and Jeff Parr took over the top spot. Jack Landis quickly followed Parr into the second spot and set his sights on the leader. Landis got under Parr on several occasions but could not make the pass as the two drivers battled for nearly 40 laps with Jeff Parr coming out on top in the “Budweiser 75.” Landis, Brian Nester, Zach Henderson, and Joe Ellert were the rest of the top 5. Darwin Wolfe and Rick Everidge were heat winners.

Logan Parker set Fast Time in the Smith Enterprises Mini Stock division and made it two in a row as he easily held off former champion Kedrin Holliday for a visit to Tri State Line-X Victory Lane. Clif Bennett was third, Jerry Slone fourth and Shawn Grace fifth. Taylor Oberlin and Kedrin Holliday picked up heat wins.

The Superior Auto Modified feature saw Jason Timmerman, after several great runs; finally pick up his first feature win of the season at AMS. USA Modified driver Brad Springer finished 2nd, points leader Darwin Wolfe was 3rd, Brent Hook 4th, and Rick Coe 5th. Timmerman and Scott Moyer had heat wins.

Tom Little made it a clean sweep with two feature wins in the same night in the Jonny on the Spot Street Stock 20 lap feature. Robby Henderson got past early leader Justin Oberlin late in the event to finish second, Oberlin was 3rd, Bob Thompson 4th, and Nate Moon 5th. Bob Thompson and Brent Dirrim both picked up their first heat race wins of the season.

The Angola Motor Speedway presented the first “Super Sunday Show” of the season on July 20. The VROA Modifieds were the first to take the green flag for a 20 lap feature race. Samantha Jansen got a great birthday present by setting fast time and then winning her second career feature in the VROA series. Jamie Gritter, Larry Mollohan, Fred Otterbein and Steve Fuller were your top 5 finishers. Otterbein and Jansen were heat winners.

The Short TrackTrucks.com Challenge Series traveled to AMS for the second time in 2008 and as always put on a great show. 50 laps was the distance as 16 trucks took the green flag and Rowdy Rob Roney jumped out to the early lead. John Smalley and Joey Shuryan made it a three way battle for the lead 11 laps in. Shuryan grabbed the top spot but was chased down by Justin Claucherty on lap 32. Claucherty held on for the win and pulled his truck into Tri State Line-X victory lane. Shuryan finished 2nd, Smalley 3rd, Keith Wioncek 4th, and Paul Schaffer recovered from an early spin to finish 5th. Jason LaDuke and Shuryan picked up heat wins.

It was the 25 lap “Run What Ya Brung” Outlaw Mini Stock race on track next as half the field qualified at under 17 seconds in cars with 4 cylinder engines!! Fast qualifier Jerime Damron rocketed off the start and was in the lead by lap 3. Damron held off a charging Michael Mast, Cecil VanBlaricom, Jake Hinton, and Todd Gearhart. Clif Bennett and Mike Mayes were the Outlaw heat winners.

The NAMRA Formula Indys were on track next for the final race of the weekend. It took him 19 laps to do it but Scott Miller got around Dan Frye with just over a lap to go to win another NAMRA feature at AMS. Frye, Bosler, Greg Stanley, and Andrew Challenger were your top five. Miller also picked up the heat win.

This Saturday Night at the Angola Motor Speedway don’t miss Croxton and Roe Insurance Night at the races with Kids Bike giveaways. A 75 lap feature $750 to win for the CRA Street Stocks, an “AllStar” Weekend for the Superior Auto Modifieds and the Smith Enterprises Mini Stocks are also scheduled. Practice at 4:00, Time Trials at 6:00, and racing at 7:30. Don’t forget about the famous AMS Dollar Menu including $1 FAYGO sodas! For more information log on to www.angolamotorspeedway.com.
