Ovid, Michigan (Monday, July 21, 2008): I know what everyone is
waiting for. Everyone wants to know why I turned in my Letter of
Resignation to the ASA Late Model Series after Three and a Half Years
of devoted service. Well here it comes, all the juicy details that
everyone has to know!
Nothing! That's it, nothing more, nothing less! There was already a
press release issued about this very topic and the truth about the
reasons why I left and the things that needed to be said are all in
there. If you didn't read it, then you missed out. By now it's old
news anyways and it's time to move onwards towards the future....
I will say this; Template Body/Crate Engine Racing is still the best
thing to come along in short track racing in decades! The "original"
concept that was the original USPRO Cup Series back in 2003, remain a
blueprint for what short tracks across the land should follow to make
their premiere division a success and to build and nurture rising
superstars all over.
Moving on.... Local Short Track Racing is what is on everyone=s mind,
from the devoted readers of the Michigan Racing Scene to the lurkers
and regulars on the Michigan Short Track Racing Club, there's been so
many changes this season alone it=s been hard to keep up, but here
goes one topic close to home.
Owosso Speedway has new owners. Rick and Jennie Miracle, Jeff and Pam
Parish have taken over the reigns of the Big "O" and things are
looking promising after the first few weeks. The place is looking
better and better, the car counts and crowds are picking up too.
The car count this past weekend with everyone around the track calling
their events early was the best seen at the track since those glory
days of 2001 and 2002 when the track was averaging 100-120 cars a
night! Unfortunately, Mother Nature paid a visit and cancelled the
nights festivities.
Probably the best field of Modifieds seen in a long time at the Big
"O", a strong field of Outlaw Bodied Late Models including former
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver, Stan Boyd. In addition, a strong
contingent of Street Stocks and Pure Stocks were on hand as well.
Almost 80 cars were in the pits!
Hopefully things continue to go well and the Owosso Speedway gets back
to where it should be, as one of the premiere tracks to go on Saturday
nights in Michigan It wasn't that former Owners / Promoters, Dave
Bigos and Ron Hauser were bad guys or even bad promoters, the problem
was that they are racers too and couldn't decipher between the two.
This was the smartest thing they (Bigos and Hauser) could've done, to
sell the track. Keep in mind, they kept the track going from 2004 up
until recently and this was after the disaster of 2003! Once Donnie
Shaw left at the beginning of that season, it's safe to say that Karl
Keifer panicked!
But all of that is in the past and now the ole girl is in the good
hands of the Miracle's and Parish's. Give them a chance and you'll see
the Owosso Speedway come roaring back in a huge way.
