Question for the new owners. Why leave the barn doors open when you are tearing people down? I know you havent had much a problem so far with it, but in the past people have gotten to arguing with other drivers and crews. you know the drill, he's running this and he's running that. Did you see tonight how many people were around the tech barn? WAAAAAAY to many people. Just a heads up, you askin for trouble leaving those doors open. Many people think, not just me, that if your not the driver or a crew member no one else should be present for the tear down. IMHO

I believe the barn doors should be open but a rope put across the entrance. No one who shouldn't be in there except the officials and the effected team members. So why not leave the door open for people to see whats going on ? Is this a top secret operation ? Are they holding a United Nations meeting in there ? Are there topless dancers in there ( if so I am heading to Owosso this weekend ). We are forgetting that other tracks do not even have the luxury of a tech barn and its all done in the open.

Leaving the door open ( but roped off )

1.) Creates fan interest. It gives them a chance to see what goes on after the races ( besides lot of beer drinking elsewhere in the pits icon_smile.gif

2.) It creates an open/transparent atmosphere for the racers and promoter

3.) It helps to eliminate the spread of rumors from " closed doors ".

I have seen this issue handled both ways. Myself, as an official, I would prefer that others can see in while tech is being performed. Otherwise you get people who start rumors about crap that doesn't happen. eq - " They closed the doors and tore the car apart and found something illegal but let him go. "

Unless you got something to hide from others and will be embarrassed in front of an audience if the tech finds it, leave the door open, rope off the entrance and allow no one else inside except 2 team members and the car owner.

I am not a big fan of anything being done in racing that happens behind closed doors. I despise secrecy in racing and in the end it creates a lot of hard feelings. I support Jeff & Rick on this 100 %. icon_smile.gif

JMHO and since I do not own Owosso, it means little. icon_smile.gif

I agree with Chris on this. Leave the door open, but rope it off. The fans like to see what is going on and the other teams can see what is getting teched.

All very valid points and I will have a roped off area before next weeks racing.

Everyone I encountered in the tech area last night were respectable and there are curious folks.

An open door policy is what we will enact, but it will be open at a distance.

Tech is not to gain insight on what the other guy has.

Its to make sure he is winning with legal parts.

Thanks for the input.

Jeff, my comments were based on what had transpired last season at Owosso, some not so good stuff went on around the tech barn last season, people yelling and screaming at each other and so on. As I said in my first post so far the new owners (you and your partners) have not had an issue and have handled it very well from what ive seen. I was giving you a heads up on that. In the interest of the fans, the roped off area is a good idea but someone should be there to enforce the new policy. Good idea from the previous posts about the roping off. On a good note, I had a good time racing last night even though i had some issues that I had to pull off the feature. I will be back sooner than later! The new owners are doing a good job, reminds me of the good times at the Big O!

jeff, i finally got a chance to slip out to the track for a few minuates sat. night. was great to see a good car count. got a chance to help ron at the scales a little. there was a lot of fix it tickets being giving out by ron that a lot of people don't see. the rope deal on the barn is a great idea. you get three cars in there on a hot night with all the cars at 200 degrees fresh off the track, it makes that garage hot real fast. wish i could of stayed to watch the good racing, but i was going against docs orders as it was. how was the lawn mower races. have not heard any thing on them? keep up the good work jeff and rick and family, you are going in the right direction. thanks mark dawson
