Full Version: NASCAR/GOODYEAR : Embarassment

This has got to be worst managed situation I think I've ever seen with NASCAR.

How can you go to arguably your 2nd biggest race of the year without a substantive tire test.

How can you bring a tire that can only go 10 laps and is blowing up with little advance notice.

This race is nearly unwatchable.. its like watching a Russian Roulette competition.

Ahh Tony Stewart, do you think he has Goodyears on his family vehicles? What a joke.

GOT to be the worst race ive ever scene what a joke cant even run ten laps run eight laps throw a caution shouldnt have anybody a lap down handing out lucky dogs left and right pace car might win this race

I just got on here to start this thread.... You guys beat me to it. I agree with everything you guys just said.
All the drivers should stop and get out... you know, like a walk out strike.... and tell Nascar that they're not going to continue until the problem is resolved. Someone can get killed.
dierich12
One word for nascar........................Hoosier!!!!!!!! LOL
Biggie55
Can youimagine diving off into a turn at 205 mph on a tire that you know is going to blow?... Yikes.
pmcnamara
why are they throwing the yellow now ??

every team has two sets left.. there is 30 laps left..

manage your tires.

pit under green.

let the best team win.

yellow flags now are stupid.. you know how long your tires will last, you want to risk it.. risk it.

One thing.. don't put the blame on Goodyear.. they make the tire NASCAR wants.. Goodyear could easily make a tire which would last 40, 50 or even 100 laps.. but NASCAR mandates what type of tire they want so NASCAR can manipulate the racing. Goodyear is going to be the fall guy, because that's what NASCAR pays them to do.. but this is a NASCAR problem.

Just like watching a bunch of heat races.

DID nascar tell the teams and owners to play nice notice how no one was saying anything negative nascars making the best of a bad situation even the in race reporter TONY STEWART sounded like he was running for president he didnt even bad mouth goodyear and this tire was way worse than the one he tore them up on the last time notice all the empty seats local tracks aint the only one feeling the pinch the brickyard use to always sell out

When all this started today, mom and I looked at each other and said OMG it's that's Iceman race all over again.

I remember an Iceman race probably in 1999 or 2000 at Winchester that we couldn't keep the cars from blowing tires. Don't remember how many cars we killed that day, the only one I remember is Kenny Tweedy's car and nothing being left of it... I'm not sure the instrument panel survived.

Anyhow we called the thing just short of half way... one of only 2 races that we didn't go the full distance in all the Iceman races (the other was a rainout). Dave Jackson was the survivor of it.

I was scoring in the tower with the Winchester people and never been so embarrassed. It was the same time all those Explorers were popping tires and the joke was that the Iceman was running those Bridgestones... but it was just lousy South American built Goodyears. (think they came from Chile)

Anyone know where they make the NASCAR tires? Akron still?

BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Real sad watching this race. I watched Muscle Beach Party from 1964. It was more exciting!

Lots of empty seats! No wonder.

WHATEVER PATRICK, whos ever problem it is, it stinks. NASCAR is stinking up the place. So tired of all the polished, goody two shoe drivers. When can we get some drama? some excitement? I'll stick to the trucks and ARCA. This was the worst race i think ive ever seen and ive been watching nascar in some form or fashion since i was a kid at least 25 years. Why not bring Hoosier into the mix? It would liven up the place, cause a little drama. A nice good tire war!

If they brought Hoosier in, Hoosier would just be making the junk tire that NASCAR wants and we'd all be hating on them. My point is, NASCAR would control and manipulate it whether it was Goodyear, BF Goodrich, Hoosier, whomever.. this is a NASCAR problem.

something needs to change or nascar is gonna loose fans...quickly

The difference here Debi is that the Iceman Officials were intelligent enough to STOP the race after 56 laps, instead of the scheduled 100, to save the drivers cars, and LIVES!!!! I never seen an infield resemble a junk yard more than I did that night at Winchester!!!!

This was ridiculous!! Please explain to me how the #1 racing circuit in the world, can come to the biggest racing venue in the world, and only be able to run 7-10 laps without a tire problem?? The results of this race can severly effect a large amount of teams trying to make the chase. All I know, if I would of paid the BIG DOLLARS for a ticket to get in there, and had to watch THAT!!!! I'd still be screaming about it right now!!!

I couldn't even stay awake for the 7-10 laps. BORING!!!

The blame almost completely goes on NASCAR. I'm pretty positive that this is the first time (since they started racing there) that there was NO full-scale tire test at IMS leading up to this race. When you take the unique characteristics of that track and this POS new car...that's pretty much hard to accept or defend on any level.

However...unlike the Euro-trash a few years back, at least 75% of the field didn't take their ball and go home (STILL, not happy about that!)

I'm no Ed Howe, Tim Curry, or Gary Nelson...but...couldn't SOME of the problem with the cars rolling over to the right due to the high center of gravity, be fixed by simply lowering the minimum weight or altering the left-side percentages of those sleds?

(I know...silly ideas from a former announcer...)

On the bright side...I didn't feel well Sunday anyways...I needed the rest.

Kinda cool how they got about 50K people to dress in the same color silver as the aluminum seats as the seats too! Again...according to King Brian...there are NO problems!

How much did a ticket cost for that one they got jobbed next year Vince McMahon will be the grand Marshall

That's right you were there Ed... you and I might've been the only ones to see that thing... I've been to enduros with less carnage.

I cannot argue with that statement Dennis. I guess I should be thankful to NASCAR for providing such a relaxing atmosphere for me to rest!!!

Yeah Debi, that was a mess. I never seen so many cars up on jack stands at the end of a race. And angry drivers. They had to TRY and repair the cars just enough to be able to load them. You could actually hear some of the tires POP when they went, crazy!!!
firechild
Was watching this week in nascar MICHEAL WALTRIP said nascar should be applauded for making INDY a entertaning race what did he do go home after his wreck watch tv of last years race either that or he was smoking something that was the worst race ever
mrvids
The race was a 153 lap parade followed by a 7 lap race. if I were crew chief I'd send a crewman to the nearest Discount Tire and grab any wide Corvette tire and paint the Goodyear letters on it. It'd hold up for about 30,000 miles probably.
Dennis ONeil
It doesn't seem like a tire that will last more than 25 miles should be that hard to come by!
We do better than that on $47.00 Sumo's.
Mopar93
They should have put some 970's on those stupid looking Cup cars. Heck, they probably could have got three races out of them, too.

Actually, the COT car wouldn't be all that bad looking if they put the old style spoiler on the back and got rid of the stupid splitter on the front. A little bit of an air dam on the front and they'd be all set to go.

I'm not buying the deal about the cars rolling over on the right side more and tearing up the tires. Goodyear knows how these cars work and they know how Indy works and they've been building race tires for many years. This was way too much of a mistake.

Hoosier could probably make some molds with Goodyear Eagle embedded in them and start producing tires for Goodyear.

I remember one year going to the ARCA 200 at Daytona and bringing last year's Goodyear Daytona tires to run. ARCA had just switched to Hoosier but we were allowed to run our old tires for a few more races. Goodyear was over on the NASCAR side and Hoosier was over on the ARCA side. So, I took my tires over to the NASCAR garage to get Goodyear to mount them up for me. They wouldn't mount them and put their inner liners in because I was racing with ARCA, not NASCAR. You don't buy the inner liners, they are always on loan from the tire company.

I thought I was going to be stuck having to buy new Hoosiers that I couldn't afford. Guess what? Hoosier mounted my Goodyear tires for me and installed their own inner liners in them. That deal right there has made me feel good about Hoosier ever since.
