I installed a 1600 lb 3rd link on my asphalt late model to try and get some more bite. The problem i have now is that when i get off the gas and on the brakes I am loose and the rt. front bottoms out on the sway bar adjuster. I have no room for a 90/10 shock without doing a great deal of fab work.
Looking for other suggestions to make this 3rd link work. The spring is moving about 7/8" The track is 1/4 mile flat
cross- 56.8-with sway bar-57.8
left- 58.1
rear- 50.6
total- 2540
rt.rear trailing arm is mounted about 1" above the left on the rear end and has 3.3 degrees angle
left rear has 1.3 degrees angle
3rd link has 8.4 degrees
panhard bar is 9-3/8"rearend and 10-7/8 chassis
pinion angle 6 degrees
LF spring-275-shock-6
RF spring-300-shock-6-3
LR-spring-200-shock-4
RR-spring-150-shock-4
ride height-4"

Thanks Rod

The 3rd link has no effect on the sway bar mount hitting sounds like car could use more frt spring Or run a 7-3 on rt frt or a 4 on left sounds like cars getting on rt frt 2 quick Or 2 soft You have room for a rubbur snubber on 3rd link on compresson side

This was the first week I tried the spring loaded 3rd link and I didn't change anything else but some angles on it and the trailing arms and lowered the panhard bar on the chassis side. Before those changes the car had not bottom out at all, so I just assumed it had something to do with the spring loaded 3rd link. any input for a good set up on 1/4 mile flat without that type of 3rd link. Car seems to turn in real good without that type of 3rd link, but was always loose off.

Thanks Rod

What track are you running at?

Where are your rear springs mounted in relation to the axle?

This spring thing...not a lift bar, right? Just a spring mounted inside a cage which is parallel to the 3rd link? If there's nothing to control the spring, it might be moving too much or too quick.

Can you adjust both of your swaybar mounts up if that's all that's bottoming out?

Thanks for the reply Mike. The springs are mounted behind and below the axle and yes it is just a spring loaded 3rd link. I can raise the mounts some. I guess my question is, will this 3rd link cause this problem and can it be made to work without a 90/10 dampner

Thanks Rod

It seems like a spring with nothing to dampen it could cause some bouncing around back there. With the springs mounted both behind the axle, it isn't going to change the crossweight though.

I'm not sure what the latemodels are doing, but the rubber type biscuits seem to work good on a modified. I think it might control the movement a little better.

I still don't know why any of it would cause your front end to bottom out though. I'd bet something else has changed. Maybe have that RF shock dyno'd so see if it's working right. Have them all done if you do it...it's cheap enough.

Did you check your ride hidth at all four corners without any sway bar load? After running a race, you need to check this to see if you have a shock or spring going bad or it take a race or so to see where they want to be. On my late model, we check these every week. The 3rd link has nothing to do with your bottoming out problem. Is your rear roll center to high or low?
