Hey guys I am planning on racing my Dad's old Pro Stock next year down in Maryland. The car has been parked for 8 years and needs attention. Now I know I need to pull the motor out and get it to Mr. Brabbs for freshening, probably will run the backup motor for a few weeks in the beginning. I'd do it myself but I don't know what to use for rings, he will. my question is about the hydraulics, calipers, throwout bearing and master cylinders. If this was an old pickup truck I would see if the stuff all retracted properly and moved freely and if it did I would flush the old fluid and drive it if it didn't I would re build whatever caliper or cylinder that needed it. but this is a racing car SHOULD I approach it the same way? I normally would but I may be way off here, should I repack all of those things off the bat and forget it? I am cost concious that's why I ask I know what is the right answer but I was thinking, these are production car parts, shoud be the same, right?
Also I haven't ever dealt with a Hydraulic throwout bearing before, my Dad and my brother put that in while I was at work the Howe one in the Speedway catalog is 120 bucks should I just order one? or can I see if this one moves and run it?
I've built a racecar from scratch, and raced a car that had a winter off like anybody else but haven't ever brought one back from the dead like this well, a few street cars but not a competition machine. should I approach it like any other car (or airplane) I have had to do extensive maintenance on and evalute the pieces, or just replace everything?
