Looking @ price differances and thought I'd ask about.
What brand suspension springs do you like and possibly why?
Why such a price range? I know of differant alloys, but why?
Thanks All, MPR72

I like the Afcoils, ugly yellow springs but no matter how old or what poundage, they always rate within a couple percent of what they are supposed to.

I use to run the Afco ones,, But now that PCR is making shocks and springs, Integra, and the fact I drive right by the place two or three times a week I have switched.. Don't really see any difference, so it is just easier to pick up and cheaper with no shipping.

Eibach. For the same reason Laci mentioned. They have the highest chrome silicon % followed by Hypercoil then Afco. I did a lab on this in my materials class in college, the higher the chrome silicon the more resistant to fading they are. Granted this was about 8years ago, maybe things have changed.

About three years ago I had bought a couple of Eibach. When I rated all my springs, I had suspension specialist, Eibach, and Afco, every Afco I had was spot on and the Eibach all rated less. The suspension specialist were all over the place.

PCR ?

Yeah them light blue springs are awful. 1 race will change them 25lbs or more. Avoiding those things is the best advice one can give.

We've got a pair of eibachs in the front of the 12x that sat outside with weight on them, in a crashed frame for 4years... and they are spot on. There are some Lensing springs that are red that look just like an Eibach and aren't. (not saying it's not possible to get some bad ones or anything, just saying I've had great luck with them)

Thanks Laci,,, you young guys are a lot faster (on here) than I am. Or maybe you guys are faster because you don't have anything else to do??

Eibach is a good German company, they make springs for a ton of street cars. (getting some for my VW soon) I rated the springs myself on a used tester. The Eibachs were consistant to each other, its just that on this particular tester a #150 read at #140 and a #175 read at #165. I bet there are people that can chime in and tell how their Afco's had problems. I think what is best is to use the same manufacturer at every corner, no mismatching. I mostly had Afco's, and they rated what they on the spring tester I used so i went with just them.
Carrera used to make a sweet spring that was chromed, oh how I wish they still did. icon_mrgreen.gif

Chrome makes cars go faster......lol

Must be an Owosso thing.... The one I bought had it all over..
Rocky
I put some Eibachs in my buddy's street Camaro when I did the Poly bushings and Adjustable shocks for him (for like a case of beer), according to the tuner car, Street machine dudes they are tops. nice to see some scientific proof.
MaddMike
Chrome Silicon is the material that they need to be made out of for them to hold up.

I recommend using the same brand exclusively so that they are all rated on the same machine... Otherwise, you'd really need to rate them yourself as Laci did to see how they compare to each other.

I've found that red shocks and springs are fastest, as long as everything else is color co-ordinated that is. Red might not work if you don't have a blue frame.

Mike,,, I have a blue frame,, however I have gold shocks (which since I am a paint/prototype eng. is a composite of Red) Do you think they will still work?? I have removed all the chrome from the car, hoping that would help lessen the clash.

I believe that you should be ok. As long as you removed ALL of the chrome(excluding wheels, as wheels just have to "look cool"). I cannot say for sure though... I've only tested one gold shock for the 5th link, and so far it's ok.

What color are your springs? I think that might be the determining factor on your setup.

Mike
Rocky
My springs are black, for a balanced Neutral color. Seems to work well with the red chassis. I may be way off base there though. If I put more Red in there wouldn't it be too much? Are my black springs slowing my lap times?
Kevin 05
Mike,, the new Integra springs are coated black,,, just like the AFCO's only different.
pmcnamara
If I get some bright red spray paint and paint my rust colored springs will I go faster ?
Rocky
Undoubtedly Patrick.
MaddMike
If the Chassis is red, then it would seem reasonable to assume that the springs and shocks would need to be blue.

Black Chassis...now that opens up a LOT of new options.

Reasonable yes but on dirt it's different.

Oh yes... Dirt...Didn't catch that.

For dirt, you have to run all sorts of mismatched stuff. Even if it doesn't fit in the car, put it in anyways.

With an ample supply of Carling or Stroh's but since Carling is on the side of my car for the Jay Woolworth throwback paint job, Carling is how I roll when I can get it.

I tried all kinds, and the Eibachs seem to be the most consistent.

I've had good luck with TruCoil sold by Speedway Motors as well as Afco, every other man. seems to vary quite abit from their advertised ratings with poor ability to maintain their numbers. I have not used any Eibach springs but hear the're good also.
