Rocky
O.K. awhile ago I was listening to Larry's radio show on the web and they talked about the all time 1/4 mile feature race. I thought alot of guys got ommited that deserved mention. So I am gonna list 32 in rows of 2 in no particular order. they are all in their prime driving the 1/4 mile cars you remember best and everybody is on formula tires even the current guys all cars have the modern stuff to make it fair of course. after the 50 lap main, we' are gonna perform a voodoo dance that changes the track back into dirt for the next nights 50 lap main. Who do you think would win?

Row 1

3 Mike Miller 62 Mark Klein

Row 2

32 Troy "Bam Bam" Berdan 31 "Nitrous Bill" Moore

Row 3

So there it is the ultimate 1/4 mile feature who's gonna win? the second one is a full invert of the first, sorry if your name isn't there or your favorite didn't make it make your own list. I just picked 32 of the best this isn't everybody and I know it but if you remember these guys you know this would be worth the ticket price and 2 buckets of beer. 3gears.gif
Rocky
I keep looking at this list my god it was hard to make, every time I look I keep thinking how did I forget this guy or that guy. I mean Bill Higgins, Denny Owens, Norm Wilcox, Jim Miller senior,Norm Davis, Bruce Dunton, Al Boitel, Vince Worth. I could go on for probably 2 pages of guys that belong on a Auto Ctiy 1/4 mile all star list so with much respect to all that didn't make the "A" main this week I appologize. If I made another tommorrow a bunch of names would probably change. so so many deserving. that's why 32 spots. trying to pick 24 would just be too hard.
Rocky
More stars, Jay Reinbold, Ron Verheggie, Bubba Schlegel, Mike Beach. more to come.
Rocky
Also worth mentioning, I wasn't born till 77 so I can't vouch for or remember the stars of the 50's 60's 70's unless they happened to still be around after I had clear memory, about 84 that's the earliest I can recall names and numbers. it got fuzzier in my teen years too, when I started paying attention to things other than race cars.
WonRacer
Never seen anyone better at 1/4 mile stuff , is Rick Spencer .

I personally think you missed a big one on that list...Ed Doutre, (No offense, but I don't mean Jr.). The old man won a lot of races back in the day. I remember a lot of nights going out to the track and watchin Uncle Ed go from worst to first...usually in a hurry. But while we are on it I think Eddie might deserve to be on there to, as compared to some of the names that I see. How about adding a row 17 to it, they can both start at the back and win anyhow.

Yeah I know all about Ed Doutre, Sr. #73 like I said I am not an elephant so it is possible for me to forget. I Everybody up there is a multiple feature winner at the city, many are champions who is so un deserving that I need to replace them with a guy that never raced there. Junior never ran at Auto City on the 1/4 and if he did he never did jack. which eliminates him from this list. Actually JAY REINBOLD isn't in the race and he's just ads good as anybody in it better than some.
Rocky
BTW I mean no offense by forgetting somebody. However not gonna add guy that never raced at this track for example Wade Witherspoon, one heck of a Street Stock / Pro Stock driver, but didn't race on the 1/4 at Auto City. David and Steve Hiliker did and are deserving but since they weren't really full time I didn't include them. I mean I could put Frank Seder or Dennis Berry in there too if I wanted. Also it makes it harder by combining the pro and Factory Stock classes with the old Sportsman, the taladega bombers and the flying stocks. so it just ain't possible to make everybody happy. including me. if this turns into an name calling argument I get Chuck to lock this puppy.

ahhhhh....now i c

Haydenjr
Vonnie Prim, Brad keselowski, Jim Severn, Kevin Grizzle won so many times in the mid 90's I got sick of him winning! Doug Delduca, Bobby Murany
TT22KH

Rocky
keep the names coming, we'll go even and odd features. and a last chance race. pick the top 10 from each for the main. 4 from the semi. Not that we gotta pick anybody. but you sure gotta love that 1/4 mile, I've seen the show stolen by every single guy named in this thread at least once.
Rocky
How bout a thunder truck throwdown, J. Hayden, K. Hayden, Darren Burton, Wayne Warren, Tim Kirkland and more.......and while we're at it the ultimate spectator drag throwdown John Abee, Bob Massey,Gary Kosha, Jack Linder, Kennedy McConnel and more. plus my Dad in his 60 chevy, he never won or tried to with that car but that car sure was popular and he still has it even, and she looks better than ever. no half mile show tonight folks we won't need it.
Rocky

Brabbs and Bourdow are in the race, and I put them way way in the back along with Wild Willie and 10 grand Tommy, just to make it a little bit more interesting.

I gotta think your right you better put Danny back there too. I hope he gets back out to do some racing soon. I miss watching him race.

I sure didn't put him in front!!!! he's in like row 10. I can't imagine a 32 car field on that little track but it is a badass packed 32. Plus between Mark Klein and Mike Miller on the front row if they weren't fast as everybody (like that would happen) they are both crazy tough to get around. On a side note looking at all those names it does make me a little sad to think how many of them are gone already especially Pat, Willie and Tommy.
CaptainCam

and while we're at it the ultimate spectator drag throwdown

Darren Burton, Camaro Joe (in his Mazda), and Scott Dann.......

them late 80's and early 90's pro stock days imo is some of the best racing i have ever seen. sometimes two wide lap after lap. 1 more name is mark welch. he use to get around that place real well also. and i believe jack linder is amongst the list of deceased as well?
Rocky

Yep Welch I think is in the sixth row or something like that, and yeah Jack passed away a few years ago. Suppose I just didn't type his name, we were freinds of him and Danny Skinner back when they were a top notch street stock team. Before he died, Jack lived between my folks and Kevin Grizzle on Willard road.
mrvids
Tommy Meier in his little Ford would fare well, he's a class act behind the wheel as Frank Lamp was.

I say fast eddie would win the feature I believe he has been around forever and also has the dirt track experience. Then if you add Oconner to the list he has a lot of dirt time to I do believe. If wade witherspoon was invited he'd be my pick man will drive the wheels of any car on the dirt.
Rocky
John, your cousin Ed got Doug Delduca. BTW good call on the last two rows for the truck race. Dan was in the original throwdown, but nobody has said Doug Bailey yet, so I will.
badfast05
WOW THAT 15.54 IS FLYING.

MY BEST LAP WAS A 15.73 IN 1999 WITH A BIG MOTOR.
ON THE SPORTSMAN TIRES.

I WOULD TAKE DELDUCA WAS WELL AS LONG AS HE HAD HIS BIG CIGAR.

Johnny and I are actually brothers.. Kyle and Curtis are our cousins.. haha

Spectator drag showdown-- Buck Edenburn (sp) drove an early 70's monte carlo w/ a big block in it. Matter of fact if anyone can remember the night he was in the final with an 80's 2 door malibu they ran into each other on the start and didnt finish!! He put some aluminum panels all around the car and everything. I think they also timed him and he was running laps similiar to a factory stock from a dead stop

That Monte that Buck Edenburgh(SP?) drove sits in front of a house out on M13 near Montrose.
