Kinross Speedpark Press Release
(Sault Area Racing Association)
August 15, 2008
Kinross Speedpark hosted yet another spectacular event with all five classes battling on Friday night. Each and every class had great battles and close racing.
Don Dangler was the fast qualifier in the 4 Cylinder class and drove to the front to win the 4 Car Dash. Marty Jacobson also had a fast car starting in the sixth spot in the Australian Pursuit race and moving past everyone in front of him for the win. Trevor Van Marrum pulled away from the field to win the first 4 Cylinder heat race with Eric Fountain winning the second. The 4 Cylinder feature saw Dangler and Fountain work their way to the front with close racing between the two of them. Fountain got along side Dangler with both cars running door to door for many laps for the lead. Dangler crossed the line just ahead of Fountain to take the feature win. Marty Jacobson finished third, Erica Pietrangelo fourth, and Trevor Van Marrum fifth.
Dan Shumbarger led flag to flag in the Pure Stock dash earning the victory. Mick Pieri drove hard in the Pursuit and passed everybody in front of him to take the win. Bill Cryderman took the lead late in the Pure Stock heat race and raced to the victory. The Pure Stock Feature had some excitement with the field getting stacked up at the start. Greg Matheny appeared to have some handling problems early in the race. He got into the Barry Glenn car causing a big spin with most of the field getting involved. Glenn was towed from the track with damage to his car. The field went three wide on the restart with Cryderman moving to the front. He led the rest of the way with the top five cars finishing nose to tail. Cryderman was the winner with Dan Shumbarger second, Ray Golladay Jr. third, Mick Pieri fourth, and Ray Golladay Sr. fifth.
Ron Grubaugh held off Craig Van Tielen to win a close Modified Dash. Van Tielen survived an early spin off the backstretch to come back and win the Modified heat race. Van Tielen and Grubaugh battled at the front again in the Modified Feature. Joe Addison joined the battle with all three cars running close together. Van Tielen touched the Addison car in turn four spinning both cars and bringing out the yellow. Grubaugh led the restart and stayed out front for many laps. Addison dove to the inside with three laps to go taking the lead from Grubaugh in turn one. Addison held on for the victory with Grubaugh second, Troy Bosker third, Tyler Parsons fourth, and Dean Wade fifth.
The winner of the Factory Stock dash came from the front row. Pee Wee Fountain stayed out front to take the win. Cecil Piche motored from the back of the pack to the front to win the Factory Stock heat race. The entire field stayed close for the first three laps in the Factory Stock Feature event. Randy Miller led early with Mark Beaudoin and Paul Fox close behind. Beaudoin eventually got to the front with Piche right on his back bumper. These two cars pulled away from the field finishing first and second. Paul Fox finished in the third position with Larry Young Jr. fourth, and Pee Wee Fountain fifth.
The Late Model class had tight racing all night. The Four Car Dash couldn’t have been any closer with John Clawson taking the win. Corey St. Louis led most of the Late Model heat race but got passed on the last lap. Josh Ware stormed by to take the win. The Late Model Feature had a flying start and an unbelievable ending. Denny Aho spun in front of the field on the first lap bringing out the yellow and a complete restart. St. Louis found himself at the front again running very strong in the lead. Another caution bunched up the field with Aho touching John Clawson in turn three sending him in a violent spin. Josh Ware took the lead on the restart and seemed to be cruising to the victory with George Wilson shadowing him in the second position. With two laps to go, Wilson rocketed to the inside of Ware going into turn three making a clean pass and racing to the checkered flag. It was one of the most exciting finishes of the season. Ware finished second, St. Louis third, Chris Furkey fourth, and Rick Leonard fifth.
