I hear it could be opening back up as a dirt track as soon as next season... OldGold posted on STT there is an interested party. I know most people in the area want to see it paved again. I just want to see it open again. Will the Mid Michigan folks support this track as a dirt track? Do you think they would run Saturday nights? Somebody with your ear to the ground up there keep this up dated please.

Thanks, Jake

i usually try to stop by tri city about once every summer just for nostalgia. i can tell you it would take a TON of work to get back to racing shape. the track itself is VERY wide and high banked and it could be a very good track. i said way back when they said they were going to make it a dirt track that i thought they should run friday nights and hope to get some merritt cars and maybe some owendale cars also. i would go up there once or twice a month if the show was good and it wouldnt necessarily have to have latemodels either. i would be curious to see if the diehard tri city asphalt fans would go back though. you never know once they see a good dirt race they may actually like it.

I sure miss the old track running ..as I live about a 2 miles from there ...but I was told the DEQ wouldn't let chris brine the dirt track as it is next to the swamp there ......an chris had sugar beet pulp worked in to turn the dirt because of that....hope it does do something though it's very discourageing just seeing it waste away in the sun...

And I miss you running there! I miss everything about that track being born and raised in Bay City. I was at that track every week when it was running, getting raped at the ticket window, but still attending every week. I just don't see it happening again though. Even if it were to go to dirt, just think about this real quick. Predominant wind in the tri-cities is out of the southwest. The stands at TCMS are on the West / Northwest side of the track. You would be eating dirt all night. Granted, I would still go, but not many others outside of this forum would. I just remember the good ol days. Speaking of which, does anybody have any of the best of seasons or single night races that they would be willing to duplilcate/sell? I'd like to get my hands on a few of em.

Jay Reinbold showed a bunch of videos at Tri-City at a SAE meeting I was at.
Don't know how to get ahold of him though.

I was thinking they should run Saturday nights to try and draw Mt Pleasant cars. Either way I hope the rumors come to be truth, the east side needs a dirt track. Sorry it has to be where it is but the damage has been done. I hope this Ohio guy gets the gov't to allow it.

Does Jay Reinbold work at Shaffer Bierlein Chrysler in Frankenmuth? Or is that Mark Klein? I get those Mopar guys mixed up.

I'd rather see it run Friday nights. I'd run a night or two if it was Friday but I wouldn't come to even watch on a saturday unless it opened before Owendale. I'm sure there would be enough that would come on friday from mt.pleasant and owendale cars are free on friday night unless they went to mt.pleasant. Tri-City is closer! I raced there once when it was paved and had a good time. I've went to watch a few times on friday night after work in the late 90's I miss that track. Good luck!

Dave Dave Dave,Your trying to tell me you would rather go to owendale and watch 30 cars total instead of going to a new track. unsure.gif I hate to say it but i don't think any track is going to plan thier schedule around what owendale has going on.Is that place even still open,i allways see alot her family at other tracks on saturday.
'00' Joe
think saturday would be the night for tri city.. draw from mt p .. since they have more cars to draw from... saturday is a better night anyways most of the time... lets keep our fingers crossed and hope somthing will come of tri city...

yep EVERYPLACE has it's issues. Owendale is home....I like driving that track, I like watching races at that track and still have some friends there so yep I'd rather go there.
RUSSELL28
From what i have heard you might have to make some different friends at a new track real soon..... beatdeadhorse5.gif

It would be great if it could be pulled out of the ashes- a real cinderella story.

The realist in me gets skeptical when you get a look at its current state. it is tore up and pretty tough.

Do Batesons have it back now or who owns it today?

Hope they run Friday so I can dirt track it on Fridays!!!
fed-up
I hate to see race tracks close and hopefully this one can be saved. But I would bet money this one will not re-open, I hope I am wrong.
The track always did the best on Thursday nights, so my vote would be to run then.
nate
well guys from what i know....my dispatchers friend is on the board in auburn......the track has been sold....they are trying to get it rezoned....and may open up as a dirt track.....or the other side they may make it in to a core race track...with the trucks and dune buggys....and a motorcross track

Well best of luck to them I hope it re-opens whatever way they decide to go.
Rocky
well I hope it is at least an oval but there needs to be some racing in that location. You going dirt racing if they open it up that way Nate? See I have a lil love for Tri City.
nate
na i might run it a few times though.....wont know how to set the car up though....just to say i ran the old girl...will deffinitly go watch

If they make it dirt Im a dirt track racer. Man that would be great!!!!!!!

Springs a little stiffer, less tire pressure, you'll be o.k. to start. if the track is rough you'd need stiffer shocks too. more than an occaisional race you need to start moving control arms and stuff. I sure hope they open it up. it's actually got enough seats to bring the World of Outlaws to the Saginaw area, that would knock them dead!!! Keep on top of this guys. Believe me Michigan dirt racing needs a marquee name large capacity track, Tri City could be it.

If they do make it a dirt oval and run late models, count me in!!! That would be awesome for us, we would save a lot $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on fuel. I'm going to cross my fingers and hope they keep it a roundy round!!!! blink.gif
