A local track in the area is trying to come up with a different name for the pony stock division for next season. What do you all think? any suggestions????

Before they wussed out and changed the name to Hornets at Potomac Speedway, they called them the Small Junk Cars!!!!!

I'd suggest getting radio station B 95 FM involved and call them the Bee 95 division since they sound like bees buzzing around, and that is their mascot so to speak.

Not sure pops, Dan and I along with others were asked to think of a new name for the pony division. Powers that be said they didn't like that name anymore, wanted something that sounds more exciting i guess. You may be right about the leftfield...who knows.

Jim doesn't like the Pony Stock name, never has.

He has asked LOTS of people this question. Looking for something that he likes.

Hornets, Cyclones, Cyber Stocks, Tunerz, Stingers, Chargers, Lighting Stock, Road Warriors, Bandits, Cruizers, Wasps.

Guess what ? I am with Jim on this one. I cannot stand the name either. Nor do I like the name " Mini's ". If I owned a track I wouldn't have any division name that degrades that class. Both names really takes away from the drivers who race these cars and doesn't register the way it should with the fans. I think they take them as a novelty division.

Stop and think, any of you ever been led around by a stable hand on the back of a pony as a kid ? I can remember it fondly and felt foolish. Hell I wanted a stallion or thoroughbred, not some " pony ".

My feeling is that this division and its drivers deserve a " racey - classy " name instead of something that denotes what one did as a child.

Just my humble opinion and I personally feel that a name change has the drivers best interest at heart. These divisions deserve the same respect as other divisions and a racey name would help fulfill this need.

Hell call them Stallions...................anything but Ponies............LOL

My idea is this. Give them a real name.

Nothing where we change letters to look stupid........ aka no Z's for S's, stuff like that.

Nothing "derogatory" either. Pony/mini assumes they aren't really race cars. Although Pony would be a decent name if it was all mustangs!!

Nothing where the name is making fun of them either. Using names such as hornets/ wasps is basically because of the "sound" they make.

The class needs a name that will "describe" them but yet give them their own identity. I reccommend keeping the "stock"portion of their name. The pony's are more "stock" then most pure's are so no need to drop that part.

The question is going to be what should the first word be. I don't really have any suggestions for the actual name, just what it shouldn't be.

If I remember correctly, when the pony stocks first came about at Spartan, they were to be a low dollar beginer division. The pure stocks were to be a stepping stone between the Pony stocks and the sportsman. With this in mind, the name pony did fit along with the idea of "like being led around like a pony". The cars were supposed to be bone stock with only safety modifications. Well through the years, more and more modifications have been allowed to where they are no longer "bone stock". There have been more veterans racing in this class now due to economics so it has become more than just a beginer division that was originally intended. Now the pure stocks are more of a beginer class. Enough of my rambling on about the history of the ponies. For a new name...how about calling them "BumbleBees". Something different than other tracks..they sound like a bunch of bees and pack a bit of a sting.

Allen ran a three cylinder car and finished ok for 2 or three nights, it would have blown up for any one else!

I too can not believe that his car ran for 3 nights of racing with a dead cylinder. If it would of been my car, I would not have made 3 laps let alone 3 nights.

I wondered if anyone would catch the " chaseing " part of chaseing the shadows away. If one is chaseing a shadow away, then that means the shadow is in front , correct?????

At Springport, we have said for the two years that I have been there that it should be called the " O'Neil's Pony Class " as that is where most all of the ponies are from.

We all know from Todd's sometimes long and passionate posts that he does indeed speak his mind as he see's fit to.

He just got home and he is laughing his a.. off at the thought of the " Never Dead Semi Pro Stocks " being a name of any class of cars.

Since the Factory stock name is no longer used for street stocks, How about Factory Stock Fours. Or Four cylinder Factory Stocks. After all they are supposed to be"Factory Stock".

When I heard the name Pony Stocks, I thought it was 4 cylinder Mustangs and Pinto's, just as an outside observer. I could see why you'd want to change it.

How about change the Pure Stocks name to Thunder Stocks and the Pony stocks to Lightning Stocks, get it Thunder and Lightning?

We race Pony Stocks at Springport. One of our "Young Guns" is 86 years old!
We also have drivers in their 40's and 50's that are rookies.

How about "Affordable Fours"

Or "JDDBB Stocks"("Jack Daniels Dreams - Beer Budget")
