Landis, Parker, Henderson, and Timmerman Take Checkers at AMS
Angola Motor Speedway
August 23, 2008
(Fremont, Indiana)
Many of the Tri-State areas best competed last Saturday night at the Angola Motor Speedway as the Super Pro Late Model Series made their second and final appearance of 2008. The Super Pro drivers were the first feature out of the gate in the “Dietsch Sales & Service 75” presented by Randercar Racing Enterprises as front row starters Zion Schaub and Rob Buckley took the green flag. Buckley would take the early lead but would have Kevin Todd closing quickly looking for the top spot. Todd made the pass for the lead on lap 20 as Buckley was just trying to hold on to an ill handling racecar. Jack Landis had the top groove working as he patiently worked his way to the number 2 spot 29 laps in. On lap 42 Landis once again took his machine to the top side of the track and made quick work of Kevin Todd to take over the lead. Fast qualifier Jason Dietsch was charging hard but came up just short as Jack Landis picked up another SuperPro series victory. Dietsch, Todd, Derek Bischak, and Mike Kugler also brought their machines home in the top 5 after 75 big laps.
Howe CRA Sportsman regular Chad Richardson decided to give a Smith Enterprises Mini Stock a try Saturday night but a poor qualifying lap came back to haunt him as he was blacked flagged for going too far under his qualifying time while leading the feature event. That was the break that Logan Parker needed as he assumed the lead and never looked back. Parker rolled into Tri State Line-X Victory Lane one more time in 2008 and with one race remaining in the NAPA Championship Series climbed back into a tie with Clif Bennett for the overall point lead. Kedrin Holliday had another good run coming home in second spot, Bennett was third, David Hull Jr fourth and Kyle Moonen fifth. Richardson and Taylor Oberlin were the heat winners.
The Jonny on the Spot Street Stocks were next up for feature racing action as Troy Moyer and Jeff Snyder brought them down for the green flag for 20 laps of racing. The first 18 laps would all be run under green as Justin Oberlin got to the front early and held off the pack until Zach Henderson slipped by for the lead on lap 11. Henderson would make it two feature wins in a row as he held off Bob Thompson on a Green, White, Checker finish; Brent Dirrim, Jerry Carpenter, and Douglas Crager would round out the top 5. Henderson and Oberlin won the Street Stock heat races.
The final race of the night at AMS was a wild one as the Superior Auto Modifieds were on track for 25 laps of feature racing. Gilbert Little and first time visitor Dustin Carl were on the front row and both cars looked strong early on. Carl would take the top groove to the lead but he would soon have company as Jason Timmerman grabbed the second spot and was closing fast. Timmerman had too much for Carl as he made what would be the winning pass on lap 12. Timmerman would take the checkers with Carl an impressive second, a great battle for the third spot saw Fast qualifier Justin Kazmar, Erik Shaeffer, and Gilbert Little go three wide across the start finish line. Little would finish in 3rd spot, Shaeffer 4th, and Kazmar 5th, but unfortunately Shaeffer and Little made contact that sent both cars hard into the wall and Little upside down sliding down the frontstretch. Thankfully both drivers would climb out unharmed but the same could not be said for their racecars. Cory Nuttle and Timmerman were the heat winners
