Does anyone have any details an accident involving Norm Wilcox at Dixie last night?
HRT187
A car was stopped on the track near the exit. It looked like Norm was on the outside of someone and had no where to go to miss the car. Hit it a ton, and hit the tire barrier at the exit. The other car collected a bunch more cars and caught on fire.

It looked (to me) like everyone was ok, I know the ambulance took someone away but I dunno who.

Pretty scary.

The saftey crew was there pretty quick, I was impressed with that. After seeing them empty a lot of fire extinguishers I was worried it would end the night, but a truck with more entinguishers showed up and the show went on. It was before the mod feature so I was gonna check to make sure they had more fire extinguishers before letting my cars out on the track, then I saw the truck show up... I had no idea that they had resources like that.

Yeah it looked like everyone was ok. Rod Laney was driving the 85 car and ended up in the middle of the fire. The car he was driving pretty much burned everything in and on the car, it sucks for Nick the car owner. But glad rod and everyone else made it out ok, it was scary!

Definatley got to give Sppedway Saftey cudos for last night and if drivers ever question why the speend money on saftey last night was a good example

just wish when a car is going slow with a tire not poiting the way it should for 3/4 of a lap the caution would have flown and then none of this would have happened, could have been avoided but glad to hear nobody was hurt bad

From seeing Speedway Safety in action and getting the oppertunityto help out on their crew I would have to say that Dale and his guys are second to none when it comes to the local racetracks. Everyone of them take this job very serious and give it their all. This group is one that dont get the recognition that they deserve.

I believe the person taken out in the ambulance was a safety worker, that went running down the track and fell face first. Im not positive on this, but that is what I was told.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I can tell you that we always do our best to keep you guys and gals safe out there, and will do everything we can when bad things happen.

Of course, I wasn't there on Friday night, I was working my real job. Unfortuntely, it only gives me every other weekend for racing. But from what Dale and my wife told me, it was one hell of a wreck. Dale's exact words were that he hopes he doesn't see anything like that for a long time.

There was one person transported by ambulance, and she was one of ours. Apparently, she hopped off the wall and was tripped by someone and fell onto the chute. Unfortunately, she fractured the Greater Trocantur, which is the ball that fits into the shoulder joint. She's out of the game for a while, and has an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon on Tuesday. Nobody likes to see someone get hurt out there, but thankfully all of the drivers got out ok, and the one injury was not life threatening (although pretty serious).

Apparently there was some confusion with accounting for all of the drivers during the fire. I don't know who it was, or which car, but they weren't sure where all the drivers were, and the crew was afraid that one was still in his car, potentially getting burned up. Guys, we need your help with this; if you get out of the car, stay close by, or find one of us and let us know which car you are with. We always have someone dedicated to checking drivers first, so please let us know, and don't walk away until we've accounted for you. Honestly, the only real priority in a fire is you-the driver-once you're out, that car is expendable. Sure, we're going to put it out, but the point is that racecars can be replaced, and track surface can be repaired, you can't be replaced.

Again, we appreciate your comments and your trust in us. And I'm glad everyone came through it ok. Hope to see everyone out there this week.

which driver was not accounted for? Just out of curiosity? I never saw tremble get out of his car, I kept watching for him after Rod got out and never seen him, he must have snuck out quick. I know Rod got out and walked way over on the Quater mile track to get away from the fire.

I'm not really sure which one it was, I wasn't there, and Dale wasn't sure when I asked him. All he knew was that it took a couple of extra minutes to make sure everyone was out of the cars. Considering the alterntive, I'm glad it turned out the way it did.

Maybe the video will show it.
