1. Jack Landis
2. Mike Luberda
3. Andy Ponstein
4. Brent Jack
5. Harold Fair Sr.

***Highlights of the race.

Mike Luberda led a majority of the first 100 lap segment.

Dave Kuhlman took the lead from Luberda early in the second 100 lap segment and crashed hard while leading (lap 137), giving Luberda the lead again.

Don St. Denis crashed Michael Simko on a restart in the second segment and "tempers flared" to say the least......they fought each other on the track between turns 3 and 4.

Johnny Belott took the lead from Luberda and appeared to be headed for the win and then "blew up".

Landis wins.
lilkurt3A
belott broke the rearend
kaiserfan
thanks who won the fight
JRfan8888
Who would I talk to about geting a video of the fridays racing????
Turn4_5
I would say that St Denis won the fight. After he got out of the car, he took Simko right down. These guys have been watching too much nascar. Simko's flying kick into St Denis' window was a new one though. I bet it hurt when he fell back on the pavement.
trummy9703
lol.. I have to admit, that was hilarious! Good racing also.
d3man
good job to laberda then!I thought simko was supposed to be a"pro",being an arca racer, wish i would seen that!
superpro
Congrats to Jack Landis.......SUPERPRO last weekend and the big one this weekend......

Regarding the Michael Simko vs. Don St. Denis fight:

The local T.V. stations here in Toledo are loving it. Every station has shown it at least once. The station that co-sponsored the Glass City 200 showed the fight 3 times on thier 11:00 p.m. broadcast, and made sure to tell the audience they could see it again tomorrow.

The video shows Michael Simko running toward the stopped car of Don St. Denis and JUMPING THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD feet first(which results in Simko then falling onto the track). Simko then threw his helmet at St. Denis (in the car), he then grabbed and hit at St. Denis. Track personnel intervene and then Don St. Denis climbs from his car and goes after Micheal Simko, both swinging and throwing punches at each other. It was reminiscent of the Donnie/Bobby Allison vs. Cale Yarborough Daytona 500 fight back in the day.

Just for the record, Simko never went to the ground.

NBC 24 Toledo film clip of simko vs. St. Dennis.....

http://www.nbc24.com/Global/story.asp?S=54...0&nav=menu122_4

St Dennis has been in trouble at toledo befor,,, I think ARCA suspended him befor,,other posters will know for sure.

pffft. I thought you were joking about the drop kick. Unreal.
schinde
Actually, it looked pretty graceful, even gentle, feet first into the windshield. Not bad, not bad at all! Pretty inventive, although he kind of ruined the one of a kind action by ending up with the old and tired "helmet throw".

I wish I had enough money to consider throwing my helmet, the best I can consider throwing is my gloves when I get cranky.

have a good day,

hands down, or feet down, the funniest thing I have ever seen at the track. I wish they would have played the audio, the crowd was cheering like crazy.
Turn4_5
I think I need new glasses...I want to change my vote...maybe Simko did win...cheap shots as they were.
circusracer
i tought the cheap shot was simko slamming the wall.
chris
Reminds me of the race at MIS when Mikey Waltrip caught Lake Speed on pit road and sucker punched him through the window.

This fight had allot more action to it though. Especially when St Denis was able to get unbelted and get out of the car. The crowd got their money's worth I reckon.

Now the question is, what penalties were handed down and will this have repercussions on Simko's ARCA career ?

Chris
cpracer
Actualy, they cut that clip short, Simko got many more shots in at the window, they didnt show the whole thing.
chasinracin
These boys are Famous,,, Just got a call from my dad in TN and he said they showed it on the 12 o'clock news from the NBC NASHVILLE station.. I cant pull it up here at work, but he said Michael ran like a scared rabbit after Don got out... Heck I would have too> Kind of like fightin' Ray Neice at The ol' MOUNT.

Does anyone know what caused Dave Kuhlman to crash? was it lapped cars or was it fluid on the track? I didn't see the whole incident, just him and the #23 crashing into the wall.

I'd say it looked like more of a chickensh*t move than anything...
circusracer
nothing wrong with wrecking a good race car though huh? I thought it was cool, every single fan in the place was standing up and cheering.
dirttalker
Try this clip from MSNBC.

http://video.msn.com/v/us/msnbc.htm?g=2a9e...c&f=00&fg=email

It has much more video and shows Don St. Denis charging Simko. Did he learn that from Dave or Tom SImko....DeHem would remember...lol..
Turn4_5
I wonder how these guys feel about their actions now after the heat of the moment is over and it is national news.

If you're going to fight, let the guy get out of the car first or don't do it at all...
circusracer
he tried to help him out, even took his window down.
milegend45
You know what Roger, I can't ever remember seeing any of the Simko family get in a fight or even have a bad temper to where they would go after anyone. They would get annoyed pretty good if someone wrecked any one of them but I never saw any one of them raise a hand.
I don't know where Michael got that temper from.
I watched the video and one thought comes to mind. That winshiled came in pretty easy with just that skinny kid doing a karate kid bonzai on it. I know that dirt cars and the modifieds don't run any, or very little windshield but they have safety bars in front of them. I sure hope Mr. St. Denis wasn't counting on the windshield to protect him from flying objects because it didn't protect him from a flying Simko.

The only good fight I remember is when Artie Sommers took off after Don Biederman one time. I was standing next to Artie when Bieder stuffed Jay in the fence in #3 and When Bieder went to Jays window and grabbed him, Artie was running like bull, He got about six feet from the Egg man and bonzai, karate kicked him to the ground. It was funny.
I got cought in somebody elses fight and got knocked to the ground by Randy Kimball. I was in between him and Scott Fow and he wanted his butt real bad. He ran me over like frieght train. When I stood up I had about 6 Kimball cousins surrounding me with their fists ready and sayin come on. Lucky for me the little short security guard broke it up.

I ended up puttin Kimball in the moat a short time after that, He was pretty mad then too.
KCR87
I remember our own Mike Luberda pulling down Tim Felver's net on the frontstretch about 4-5 years ago at Auto City the night his car burnt to the ground over in turns 1-2

LOL Dave you have a very short memory lol, ok, lets see, Elmer had a crow bar in a circle trying to fight well everyone lol, he was cool.

I remember Jane climbing the flagstand trying to get Vince Zueker too, lol.

Ahhhhhh the good old days lol

BTW Artie Sommers had a fire extinguisher in his hand, lol that was in turns 3 and 4

Also my uncle Joe Morisette gave it to Stewart Thurman pretty good too lol.

Mt Clemens was the true action track

Here's the link from Channel 11. This one should be good, I haven't listened but it's 2 minutes long and includes an interview with Donnie.

http://www.wtol.com/Global/category.asp?C=...02&nav=menu34_6

That flying kick was something. The other links didn't run the best, this one flowed really great.
pitcrew2003
I hear that Vince McMahan saw this tape is trying to get ahold of Simko.

As for Kuhlman, it looked to me that he just got caught up in the mess in front of him. Maybe someone else had a better view then I did. How unbeleivable was it that BOTH Bellot and Sauve broke at almost the exact same time. This was the best Glass City race I have been to.

Keith
d3man
now does simko get suspended from toledo and arca or just let it go?wish i was there it's the first i missed in 4 years
carp44racing
Hell, simko will probably be picked up by a nascar team now.

the interview with dennis, I think he is full of bolagna, he hit every car on the track except for Jack Varney JR. and the only reason he didnt hit him was because Jack wisely moved way up the track and waved him by.....good job by his spotter( which I think was claude)

also good run Jack, it looked like your car really came in when the sun started to shine during the 2nd segment.

awesome race with some extra activity

congrats to Jack Landis also, He was steady and fast all race long.

My mom looked at me when Kuhlman crashed and said that it looked like no one wanted to win. Felver and Doering dropped out on the same lap too. That was weird.

Well mom just called me.... Simko vs St Denis was on Channel 7 Detroit at 600.... said it was nice and clear.

I honestly didn't see what happened with those two. Watched Donnie for a bit when he went to the rear, but got caught up watching someone else.

It was a terrific race though. But were there some rough hits? Did anyone see Billy Leslie in qualifying. Thought a bomb went off.

I bet I go to work on Tuesday and my non racing co workers will ask me if I saw the clip on the fight... I bet.

One more link with both driver commentaries the day after. The interviewer is pretty much clueless as to what kind of emotions drivers go through but it does give both drivers sides.

BTW what's with this lady's voice?[/url]
kaiserfan
it was on CNN and Kieth Obermans show tonight also
trummy9703
geez, I can't believe all the attention that this is getting. Some of my friends didn't believe me that this happened but they now I have proof, ha. At least they apologized for everything.
astromapaupus
After seeing that clip I hope Toledo gives both drivers all next year to think about it from the sidelines.
Dynochick
I have several observations.......

1. This is a win/no win deal for Toledo. Because of this, they have received tons of media coverage. I wonder how many people will go to next year's race in the anticipation of seeing some action??? But on the other hand they can't look the other way when it comes to this kind of behavior. :?

2. Who says race car drivers aren't athletes??? Looks to me like these guys crosstrain. A little gymnastics and boxing to build stamina and agility.

3. He didn't stick his landing. I think that's a .2 deduction. But the degree of difficulty was huge so overall all on a 10 pt scale I'll give him a 9.50. 8)

4. The Lions need to sign St. Denis. He ran right through that blocker/track official. Looks like Newton's First Law of Motion to me....A body in motion stays in motion! And his angle of pursuit wasn't half bad either.

5. His ankles, legs, and a$$ must be sore today. Plus, I am sure he is !

Race tracks try all kinds of "gimmicks and circus events" like school bus figure-8's, train races, trailer races and every other stupid thing they can think of to get people in the stands...and all along they have had the best gimmick; drivers fighting and making national news.

As embarassing a moment it was for everyone involved, I think it was equally good in terms of exposure. A race team I am working with actually had two potential sponsors at the race. The Potential sponsors were impressed with the cars, the speeds, and the race overall. I actually apologized to them at the end of the race for the "long day" and the embarassing fight which took place. They responded, "that was great entertainment". Yes, the fight may have over-shadowed the race, but racetracks are in the entertainment business. I know there can't be fights every week to "entertain", but like Claude and others said, the fans were cheering and loving it.

I then fielded numerous phone calls today from friends, family and business associates asking me two questions: 1.) when is the next race ?and 2.) what kind of cars were those? When I responded there weren't anymore races at Toledo this year and explained to them what an outlaw late model was, most of them were interested in seeing a race next year. These people are not short track race fans, and some are not even NASCAR fans, so the likelihood that they would come to a Toledo Speedway event is not that great...that was until they saw the "entertainment value"on national T.V. It's too bad it's the end of the year, because if there were a late model race next week, there would be great interest from the "average race fan", in my opinion.

As for the actual wreck between Simko and St. Denis, I think Simko has every right to be upset (No, I don't condone his actions) because the incident happend in turn 3 BEFORE the re-start...They had not taken the green flag yet! St. Denis "punted" him for no reason in my opinion (maybe he had a reason, I don't know).

These are just my thoughts and experiences.

What does everyone else think? Another black-eye on the sport or an opportunity to capture a new audience?
chris
Both drivers have been suspended indefinately. This includes races in ARCA since they said the race was an ARCA sanctioned event.

Guess that answer's the question " what will happen to both drivers ".

Here is the news report:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?slug=a...ov=ap&type=lgns

Chris
Wies
Supposedly both drivers are going to be in a side-by-side interview today around 1:00 on msnbc. I think they're hoping for something Jerry Springer-esque to happen.
chris
I guess this has made a big splash across the nation then. I myself watched the fight and can say I have seen much worse.

I seen one driver get sucker punched at Owosso and was knocked cold in his drivers seat long before he could unbelt.

Seen a fist fight between a tech offical and a driver and the driver they hauled away in an ambulance. smile.gif

Watched two drivers get in a hell of a fight out on the track at Owosso once and they were driving through the infields playing demo derby with their super lates.

I think I may have seen it all at one time or another and this incident was just one more to add to the long list of " things that happen in the heat of the moment ". Regardless of how fun and entertaining the deal was, Simko should have known better and St Denis should have stayed in his car.
