Everyone else who was there yesterday is probably still sleeping...but I am up for class so I will give ya'all what I know. (or think, car counts may be off)

Mods
34 cars
FQ: Billy Luckhurst
Qualifying heat winners: Laci Donnert, Tim O'Berry, Andy Hess
75-lap feature:
1: Billy Luckhurst
2: Jordan Pruitt
3: I believe Laci Donnert
4: Travis Eddy
5: Todd Matheson
(3-5 may be wrong)

LM
12 cars
Feature
1: Ryan Ostrander

Factory Stocks
43 cars
FQ: Tom Stone
Qualifying Heat Winners: Jay Woolworth, Ed Newman Jr, Kevin Harder, white 00 (not sure of name)
Feature:
1: Saddison from NMS...fast pick-up truck
Not sure of the rest. I dropped out of the feature while running 3rd, when the transmission failed. Chris Stearns had the race in hand when something also let go on his car. Robby Johnston (driving Larry Abbott's 3a) inherited the lead and something broke a couple of laps later. Tom Stone DNF not sure what happened to him. I believe only 9-10 cars finished.

Mod race was shaping up to be a great battle between Scott Lamp and Bill Luckhurst. They were coming up on Don O'Guinn to lap him when Scott touched him coming out ot 2 and turn him around and Don hit a lightpole. He was taken off in the ambulance, not sure of why or what happened. Scott was then sent to the rear, and Luckhurst inherited the lead.

This is why the flagman MUST use a move-over flag. At the drivers meeting he said he wasn't going to use one because they are racing for position, too and had ever right to do whatever they want. Don had no clue that the leaders were coming and he was just running his own line. I am sure if he knew they were coming, he would have gladly moved over. Instead, he has a wrecked car (and possible injuries), and the leader goes to the rear. Scott was doing everything he could to keep Luckhurst behind him, and just got in the gas quicker than Don and got into him.

Its just kinda crappy that a great race had to be tainted by something like that.

I had fun but I think that there is a lot of work to be done before the invite next season to help it run a lot more smoothly. I know they were behind the 8-ball having to run on Sunday, but the night lasted way too long. i have a little bit of constructive criticism:

1: Run fewer divisions, or split it up and run features on 2 different days; some cars run features on Friday and some Saturday, or some Saturday and some Sunday.
2: Make quicker decisions as to where cars go. During the LM feature there was a single car spin and it took 10 caution laps to get the field lined up. This wasn't the only time this happened. I realize that they are all volunteer workers, but sometimes you gotta make a quick decision and go racing.
3: Skip driver intros....I know that they had the ride-along program, but its just a lot of wasted time if you ask me.
4: Pay non-transfer cars. If you didn't make the feature, you didn't make a dime. Some cars traveled a long way to run 12 laps. I think everyone who makes it to the track should get tow money or something. 23 factory stock drivers went home empty handed.
5: Possibly count caution laps for the mods and LM (maybe even FS and LS) during the first half of the race, during every caution after the 3rd. I know they expect to run 75 green laps, but when it took them 4 tries to get going it gets ridiculous.

I am not trying to throw the Whittemore staff under the bus or anything, I think they have a great thing going for this invite, but I think it can be even better with some more work....which I know Andy and the gang will do.
CaptainCam
I don't know many details I was a little busy Andy or someone will fill in the gaps.

I will say the Hiltz family had a GREAT time! The all day drizzle Sat was an excuse to hang out at the track and meet new people and visit with old friends. I would like to thank my Mom and Dad for piloting the motor home, and feeding us. I also want to thank my crew, they kept me sane. Also the Harsen clan for the tasty pig roast Fri. and a HUGE thank you to the Beach family for their help, and to Scott Dann who couldn't be there but was only a phone call away.

I would also like to give big kudos to Johnny Hayden! We were battling it out for the transfer spot in the heat race, and got a little tangled. Johnny backed down and let me collect the car instead of wrecking me and maybe himself. Alot of good cars went home without making the show and some of them would have blasted their way through, but Johnny wanted to run clean. To make matters worse he had the gall to come over and tell me he was sorry for hitting me and wished me luck in the feature. Needless to say I was very inpressed. I'm sorry he didn't make the field. Guys like Johnny, Kyle, and Curt Hayden make racing more fun! I look forward to racing them for along time.

Anyway I don't really have results I know I finished 5th with Dan Engle and Jay Woolworth in front of me, I know Andy or somebody will fill in the results.

Kyle have to agree on they need to a better job resetting the line ups the lead sled feature was like Chinese Water torture but it was a great night as a fan thanks to the WRC and all the drivers from AC, Dixie, Owosso and Northern Michigan for coming a special at a boy to Tater you did a great job working around Johnston, Newman and Dorman to get the lead to bad she broke with four to go nice job Chris also to Bill Luckhurst and Ryan Ostrander who came from pretty deep in nthe field to win
drivefastturnleft
Wow this was a long exciting night! I would like to say a big congrats to Jimmy Stratton for his fabulous finish! He started *18th*!!!! He then moved all the way to the front of the pack in like 10 laps to finish in 3rd place. The feature was cut short so who knows what could have unfolded!! I am sure he wasn't just stopping with 3rd the way he was coming through the field. Not bad for his first time ever at this track!! Timmy Near was also making a great run for it when his car had difficulty of some sort.

Also great job Robby Johnston for your fabulous run!! You are a spectacular driver. Maybe you are just to much for the car !!! biggrin.gif

Well great job guys!! You have proven you can drive any where and still kick butt!!
x15fan
What time did they get done? We left at 10:10 they were trying to lineup the leadsleds again and still had to run the last feature. We were trying to stay for all of it but with a two hour driver ahead of us just couldnt do it. Does anyone know Where Jim Dorman finished?

Kim
5thGear
Pete Hoffmiester (sp?) finished second in the factory stock race. He was running around 4th and made an exciting dive under the bumps, and through the dirt in turn 4 and came out in second place.

i haven't been to whittimore speedway in over twentyfive years.......heck the last time i was there it was still dirt..........but me and my brother went up there to support our local freinds racing there and really had a good time..... i was glad to see the A/C guys do so well....and agree there is room for improvement and i am really glad it was raced on sunday and not saturday or we wouldn't have gotten home until 4:00 in the morning.........i really think if they wanted to get the show going faster they should only give the racers two laps to qualify and in the drivers meeting tell everyone we will only tell you once where to be after that you will go to the rear or black flag them........the car the won the llm should have been black flagged for holding up the race the way he was acting like a fool while going around the track and he jumped the start atleast four times and the flagman never caught it........i will say this for the flagman there he did a very good job watching the racers and catching when a car spun out but someone at the track needs to show him how to use the move over flag when it is needed......i know there where alot of different things that could have been done to make it faster and better but all in all it was a great race to watch and i can't wait to go back again next year........
pimpn8ntez06
Bob I'm glad we finally ventured up there and had a great time until lap 47. The lap before it felt like it lost a cylinder but I thought I could baby it to a win but when I crossed the finish line someone shot the oil pan with a 12 gauge (well it looks like it anyways). The track is very fast and fun to drive. Just wanted to say the Auto City Boys had it going til all the bad luck struck at once.

BTW does anyone video tape the races up there.
kaiserfan
Chris i taped them

Guys, It was discussed by many last night, and the move over flag will be used in future events. The reasons for not using it did not outweigh the merits of using it.

We had some organizational issues that did arise from the total success of the day, We had to change our format somewhat from being shifted to a rainout Sunday. It created issues for us with personell who could not make it on Sunday or were late. We ended up with some brand new volunteer people in key positions. Like any first day on the job, we all make mistakes and have lots of questions. With the volume of cars, that made for a couple glitches. We are notating them and they will be acted on over the winter. Please end the season knowing this- There are many individuals involved exactly like yourselves that are racers and want you to have the best experience possible, We discuss, debate and act on it for the future.

We had nearly 150 cars and were very pleased so many of you could try Whittemore.

Thanks very much for attending and please have happy off season.

On a much more important note, anyone know how don O'guinn is doing??

Ray
JRfan8888
They took the guy to the hospital for opservation becuse he was feeling aliitle dizzy. Kyle you are correct in the finish lineup for the mods. Jon Beach qualified third and finished 6th in the feature. I also have to agree it was a late night to have to drive home from there. we laft the track at like 11:30. But oh well it was a fun day. Hope to see ya'll there next year.
BIGcheater
YEA JEFF I DID NOTICE EARLIER IN THE DAY THE STAFF COUNT WAS A LITTLE SHORT, I KNOW AT ONE POINT DURNING QUALIFYING MY CAR BOSS BUB JUMPED ON THE TRACK TRACK WITH DALE WILTSE TO GO SPREAD AND SWEEP SOME QUICK DRY. THINGS DID GET BETTER LATER AFTER MORE SHOULD UP, BUT I'M SURE SUNDAY WAS TOUGH.

AS FOR YOU "CITY BOYS" IN THE FACTORY STOCKS biggrin.gif NICE JOB, AND FAST CARS TOO. TATER I WAS IMPRESSED. I THOUGHT YOU RAN A VERY SMOOTH A PATIENT RACE UNTIL YOUR UNFORTUNATE FAILURE. YOUNG KERI SADDISON IN THE PICK-UP HAD SOME RACING LUCK GO HIS WAY WITH CARS FALLING OUT IN FRONT OF HIM, BUT I THOUGHT HE DID US "NORTHERN BOYS" PROUD.

KYLE HAYDEN, YOU GOTTA HAVE ONE OF THE COOLEST LOOKING FACTORY STOCKS I HAVE EVER SEEN, JUST A SWEET LOOKIN CAR. I THINKS ITS GOT THAT 80'S NASCAR LOOK TO IT. I WAS CRUISIN THE PITS SAT. NIGHT LOOKING FOR SOME NEW DRINKIN BUDDIES, ASKED SOME PEOPLE, BUT NOBODY SEEMED TO KNOW WHERE YOUR CAMP WAS? WAS GONNA TALK TO YOU BEFORE THE FEATURE IN THE STAGING LINES, BUT YOU LOOKED PRETTY FOCUSED!

I'M JUST GLAD THE YEAR IS OVER, I DIDNT EVEN MAKE THE HALFWAY POINT. FINISHED THE SEASON THE SAME WAY I STARTED WITH ENGINE FAILURE, BUT I DONT THINK THIS ONES BROKE AS BAD. :?
jhaydenX
myself and kyle were back in the boonies.... across the dirt path in the back... we had tires flying at us!!!! myself and my wife had a great time.. besides the fact i didnt make the race sad.gif but, if the cards are right we'll be back,, and ill be ready, at least more than i was this time

cam, thanks for the kinda words biggrin.gif
i'd also like to say congrats to nick johnston and jimmy stratton for running well against those cars with way bigger motors,, good job guys!!!!

THE KID DID A HELL OF A JOB LAST NIGHT BY WINNING HIS HEAT RACE AND FINISHING 2ND IN THE FEATURE WHILE THE WHOLE TIME THE LOCALS WAS TRYING TO TAKE HIM OUT I WISH PEOPLE WILL START SEEING THAT THIS KID IS THE REAL DEAL
TT22KH
Yeah I felt bad for the Tater, he ran an outstanding race and it looked like the hit the set-up dead on. I thought in the open I might be able to keep up, but I wasn't going to be able to pass. I never got the outside lane figured out on that track, and it is so dark I was scared to on the backstretch!

Bigcheater, Thank you for the kind words. We hung the entire body in our shop ourselves. We added the skirts for a custom look, but we take a lot of pride in how our car looks and runs. I know I probably looked focused before the race, but always feel free to stick your head in the window and say hi (if you are ever down our way again). Actually we didn't come up until Sunday morning, so that is why you couldn't find us Saturday night!

thanks Johnny! i had a blast, us autocity boys sure were underpowered compared to some of those boys out there, but we all ran smooth and stayed out of some bumpin' and bangin' going on out there. 3 out of the top 5 aint bad. ill take a 5th place finish anyday against competition like that. yeah, jimmy did a hell of a job too, i had fun running side by side with him, i thought i had him for a minute but my car was just too loose. good job to lonnie saumier, and also mike diehl, i kept seing red behind me everytime i looked back on caution laps, he was running strong too. if only i can be that competitive at my home track with these guys. guess we will see this weekend

i had a great time at whittimore and hope to make the trip up that way again, only id prefer to be able to run my hometrack rules at an invite next time. i know we would have had a much better turnout of autocity/dixie guys if they didnt require us to make so many changes.

NO IAM NOT IN LOVE JUST STATING A FACT ABOUT LONNIE SAUMIER EVERYBODY TALK ABOUT HOW EVERYONE ELSE DID SO GOOD HE WAS THE BEST FINISHING AUTOCITY LEADSLED ON THE GROUNDS SUNDAY BUT EVEYONE ELSE DONE A HELL OF A JOB SUNDAY JIMMY,NICK MIKE DEIHL SO CONGRATS TO ALL AND GOODLUCK THIS WEEKEND. YOU ALL ARE AWESOME DRIVERS SO KEEP IT UP

people will notice when his and his crews attitudes change... arrogance will get you attention , but its not the kinda of attenion you want.

he is a great driver, no question about that
i also think you have a lil bit of the same problem :?

repect is earned, no one will get it by being arrogant

lock this thread its gonna get bad :P
top5
Maybe you should get to know someone before you make accusations and not go by heresay. I think you have arrogant confused with confident and proud. If you were 15 and *3rd in points* you might understand. The team gets much respect.
s10drag
You are talking about being 15 and third in the LEAD SLED division right?? Remember it is a LEAD SLED not a Late Model . Fifteen years of age is plenty old enough to being moving up and not sticking your chest out week to week about your GREAT Performance the week before. Just a little food for thought. Look at any traveling series and brouse at the age of many of there driver in the series there are plenty of you young kids to move up. Actions speek louder than words. Third in points means there are two people that are currently BETTER than you on the race track....
snoverfac32
i think they pit buy each other anyhoo it was just in fun have a coke and a smile chill !! smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif everyone did a great job

WELL I THOUGHT THIS WEEKEND WAS A JOKE AS FAR AS RULES.WE DROVE 2 HOURS CALLED WAY AHEAD OF TIME TOO FIND OUT WHAT WE HAD TO CHANGE ON OUR CAR SO WE COULD RUN WITH THE LEADSLEDS.WE WAS TOLD WE COULD RUN A STOCK ALUMINUM INTAKE AND HAD TO BE 2 INCH EXAUST.WE WERE ALSO TOLD TO CHANGE OUR AIR BREATHER BECAUSE WE RUN A TALL ONE.THEN WE FIND OUT WE ARE RUNNING WITH ENDURO CARS AND OTHER LEADSLEDS THAT ARE WAY BEYOND STOCK AND WHEN WE ASKED ABOUT THE MOTOR RULE WE WAS LAUGHED AT AND TOLD THAT SOME OF THESE CARS ARE RUNNING ROLLER MOTORS.SO NEEDLESS TO SAY WE WONT BE BACK.
RACERXBLINGBLING
This is so funny ,,, I wish I was there, It never changes from town to town ,track to track, but seriously the only people who have a problem with something are the same people every week every track, lmao.. I have heard nothing but awesome stuff about Whittemore , the mattheson family love it ! I was told the best thing is the people running it are the very peolpe of the town and volunteers, looks like if there were mistakes they are normal and to be expected when you are having fun and are watching a race from the least experience driver , fan etc.. from your neighbor to your enemies you will all see different events unfold at the very same time , same place.. I think the problem is ,, there are no problems lol lmao They have a board of people who gonver the races they discusse this weekly and they do improve , on things the track is not soley owned and operated i hear so this must be the problem ( no one to beoch about)lmao well if the racers and fans that went had fun the track succeeded ,, if you went home with empty pockets ( what is new) Racing is a hobby hobby hobby hobby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Unless someone pays you to show up this is a hobby!!!!!!!!!!!! You will never profit from this and if you do somewhere along the line you will pay!!!!!for instance I never won a race but the people who supported me , my team, and my hobby lol sure every inch was covered but I worked for them I promoted them whenever and however I could.... I did not race in 2006 but i promoted the companies an extra yr for loyalty reasons and this has paid off more then my dreams ever could.. the support and respect i earned will greatly help my daughters new hornet team !!!!! And my job will be to sit and watch her earn respect as well !!!!!!!!!!!!will see you all sat!!!!!!!! lol Scott your not in love with m15 but someone in your family is , one question How does it feel being #1 hornet!!!!!!!!!!!Champion 2006!!! tongue.gif I also agree Lonnie is awesome but I also agree it takes a whole field of cars to race,, meaning field fillers first class racers down to white trash ( not that any one is ) but seriously it is a game just as life is some people figure the rules out and bend em, some people been there done that and pass on information , then the new generation comes and refigures and becomes better , then there ar ethe ones who complain because there clearly cheating and cant make the show or running anwhere but #1 so everyone else has gotta be cheating lol lol but seriously if you win by cheating the system you never really won cuz the guy who works his tail off legally and my finish 3 or 10th he actually wonm the race because he is legal and he is not complaining of the payout ofr rules he is happy he hung and finished the race and his hard work let him play lol so move over flag or not just race there are always people in front of you and behind you show your skill and work it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8) 8) I missed this club lol

Yeah I'm talkin lead sleds. First of all it's his 1st year racing and last I knew you had to be 16 to move up in a late model! Check on it! He will move up! No matter what class it is I'm talking driving skill. The team is proud of 3rd, like I don't know 1and 2 come before 3! Why all the negativity cause the kids proud. He doesn't go around tellin' people they suck! Lay off!
RACERXBLINGBLING
You are right . He is 15 and part of being 15 is bragging about your accomplishments and pumping up your chest , 15 is not yet an adult , but to old to be a kid, If I were Lonnie I would brag the kid is good i seen him every week he has been there he will do good in any thing he is a natural, and I think the 15 thingy is actually in his benefit , he has no fear , a loving family and alot of support from his Mom and Dad, yup he does stand up for his self and he should , I will be looking fore=ward to seeing Lonnie in the big lights, The only ones bashing him are jealous of him cheating or not as you say he comes from anywhere in the field and always ends up front it takes more then cheating to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So what if he is all arrogant i seen a 60 yr old rookie think he is better b4 i seen drivers in all divisions act like they won but actually they either where in the dirt cutting corners or smashing someone @@@ Lonnie if you read this keep that chest pumped up , hold your head high there will be alot of time in your career when you are just plain FAMOUS !!!!!!!!!!! LOVE YA LOTS YOU DONT NEED ALL THIS PUMPING OF YOUR EGO BUT YOU KNOW I LOVE YA ! tongue.gif

im not knocking the kids abilities at all. it doesnt matter if peoples opinions are from heresay... they are negative things being said. really i dont care. i was answering hornets question. why would i be jealose??
His family has been great to me his uncles have given me parts for the last two years. his grandpa helped me a couple weeks ago.

For the person who asked about Don O'Guinn, he is going to be alright.

Kim, missed you this weekend girlie! You should have been up there with us hanging out in the rain and being cold. I guarantee you would have had a good time.

For the rest of you griping, remember you went to play in someone else's sandbox so you had to play by their rules. Sorry you weren't happy with some of the rules and other cars that were there, but that is life. The cars you are griping about have been racing at that speedway in the lead sled class all season as they needed a higher car count. In my opinion it wouldn't have been fair to their "regulars" to outlaw them on the speedway's special night just to make you people who only have been there once happy. Maybe if enough of you showed up to race the regular season they could outlaw the enduro cars and make them comply to more compatible rules that you already have.

We have raced at Whittemore all season in the modified class and truly love going and playing at that track. We are not alone as alot of the modified field this year came from the Flint area.

I guess the old saying goes that alot of you appear like you would cry if you were hung with a new rope. If your experience was that bad compared to where you normally race I guess I suggest you don't go back. Otherwise, consider what you deal with on a weekly basis and compare. Maybe Whittemore isn't that bad after all.

Kudos for the best invitational the track has ever had and I hope they can top it next year! One way or another we will continue to do our best to support it!
jnstnrcin55
On a lighter note Robby Johnston and crew had a ball......I'm sure they could come up with ways they could have made it better....lol.....Like not broke.....Ha Ha.......Robby wants to know if he can borrow a steerring wheel......lol......or better yet Why Are They mandatory......lol.....No really he came home with great stories and......made me mad that I could not be there.
So a big congrats to everyone.....and a special congrats to Stratton who had a great finish and lil Abbott who made his racing debut and did a spectacular job.

BTW Johnny Sommers look out Robby has been looking for someone to cook for him for years.....and you make him a filet.......shame shame guess who is coming over for dinner.

my car got totaled and i didnt even race and i thought it was a VERY good show without many problems just restarts and that was mostly driver error thanks jeff and all for a good time

So you start by hollering.. "Who said there were rollers ??" as if it couldn't possibly be true.. then finish by saying "there was maybe one (which infers at least 2 or more) and complete the sentence by saying, but he didn't finish.. with no mention why he was allowed to start.

I know.. I'm just a trouble maker, but that is what you said..
kspeedracer44
See when I say one I am refering to one....If I was refering to two or more I would say two or more, guess I was not clear enough for you. I know what I said, thanks for completely rearanging it for me. I try to not worry about what the other cars have. It would of been a good race if there was not a wreck every other lap. Learn how to drive and get your car to turn before you start crying. Big engines do not always win the races, any racer can tell you that you can have all the engine you want but if your car will not corner or is not reliable you will never win....
Go Tigers biggrin.gif
rap77
I always figured if I had to let off the gas to get through the corner I still had some handeling issues to work on.If we come out of turn 4 side by side, and by the time Im going into turn 1 and the other guy that was beside me is going into turn 3,then I figured I was either lacking motor or the guy that was beside me may just be bending the rules a bit.Gotta be able to get through that corner.....And I do realize that you cant REALLY drive a 350 chevy flatfooted all the way around the track, thats just part of my explanation on cornering. Also realize the LS are rather limited on setup changes but there are several ways to get the car through the corner alot better and still stay within the rules.
PS......... GO TIGERS.....and..... REDWINGS

Heard things didnt go to well for you at the invite.Next year I hope to see you run that NEW ENGINE all year with no problems biggrin.gif ..At least you managed to actually win a race at Whittemore this year with that laying down engine.Better than I did....

Way to go Nick Johnston. Well be looking for that feature win very soon. That boy just seems to be getting his poop in a group, and this is only his rookie year. Nice job Nick. Good luck at AC this weekend. Make us proud!

Just for the fun of it I wanted to add that; Humility is a very valued commodity at race tracks and in other sports. If you look a Barry Sanders you see a man who acted like he had been there before, and poeple had a great deal of respect for him because of it. If you want respect from fans and competitors alike you must be humble and mature!!! I'm not saying that anyone here is not. Im just stating fact. NOW THANK YOU AND "GOOOD NIGHT NOW".
